It was a frustrating 2 points dropped for EELY on their travels to Stonehaven this weekend. East End took the lead through the determined Matty who slid in to prod the ball past the onrushing Stonehaven GK. The first half saw a few half chances created for both teams but the score stayed at 0v1.
Stonehaven levelled the game in the second half with a great long range effort finding the back of the net before East End re took the lead through a low driven Ashton F strike.
Despite enjoying some good spells throughout the game and seeing a lot of the ball, East End struggled to create many chances which would come back to hurt them.
In the last 5 minutes a lack of concentration at the back resulted in the Stonehaven striker finding himself with the ball at his feet inside the box. Moving away from goal he was brought down in the area and the referee decided a penalty to the to the home team. Calmy slotted away the game levelled and despite pushing to find a winner finished 2v2 to the disappointment of the visitors.
League action returns Sunday 31st with a home game against Thistle, 1030am kick off.
Following last week's fixture v Deveronvale being cancelled due to COVID, the boys are raring to go this Sunday down at Stonehaven β½οΈπͺπ»

Looking to bounce back after previous weeks disappointments, the boys did incredibly well scoring 5 goals with one going to the top of the list for Goal of the Season!
East End started well dominating the early part of the game and after a brilliant passage of play a through ball for Ashton Forde was calmly sent into the back of the net giving the hosts the lead.
Ellon then got right back into the game battling well in the middle of the park and creating a few chances. Unfortunately for the visitors following an Ashton Forde strike off the post the ball was turned into the back of the net by the Ellon centre half to double East Ends lead before half time.
East End started the 2nd half as they did the 1st and extended their advantage with a beautifully taken goal by Ashton Black. From an Alex through ball it was one touch out the feet and second struck firmly into bottom corner.
Another goal followed from an Ashton B through ball to Matt who's first touch allowed him to get a solid strike on the ball which flew past the keeper from 12 yards out.
Goal of the game (and likely season) saw East End centre half Craig control a bouncing ball from 40+ yards out before unleashing a ferocious volley up and over the keeper into the back of the net. Fantastic technique and great to see Craigy scoring in the right goals this week π€£
Thanks to Ellon who we have now played for the 3rd and final time competitvely this year. Good luck for the rest of the season!
League action returns Sunday 18th with a home game against Deveronvale, 1030am kick off.
π’ Scottish Cup Round 2
π Deveronvale 2 v 1 EELY
β½οΈ Ashton F
A disappointing day for EELY 2008s as they bow out of the Scottish Cup in round 2.
The hosts took the lead with a great piece of work down left side from Vale winger unfortunately saw the ball hit the net off Craigs deflected header. Not long after the Vale were 2v0 up with a bit of hesitation at the back allowing the striker to round the keeper and slot home. A fantastic ball in from Alex was met bravely by Ashton F who rifled his header in off the bar to reduce the deficit just before half time.
The second half went without any goals but a great battle nevertheless.
East End never really found their rhythm on the day and struggled to create the same volume of chances as in recent weeks.
Thanks to Mark and all the boys at Vale for hosting. We wish you all the best for round 3 and look forward to meeting again in our league fixtures.
League action returns Sunday 10th with a home game against Ellon.

A bad day at the office for the boys yesterday having been 3v0 up and looking comfortable to dropping 2 points on their travels to Westdyke.
A lot to be learned from a game like this and the boys will be back looking to bounce back to winning ways next week in the Scottish Cup.
Huge credit to Westdyke who pushed hard to the end to secure a point π

π Ellon 1 v 3 EELY
β½οΈ Dexter

The boys returned to action today following a 2 week break in the first round of the Scottish Cup out at Ellon.
After a sluggish start the boys began to find their feet again playing some very nice football. Ellon pressed very well and made EELY work hard for their win.
First goal came from a great bit of link up play in the middle before the ball was worked out to Matty S on the right who delivered a great cross for Dexter to prod home giving EELY the lead. An Ellon penalty levelled things before a fantastic double from Ashton F sealed the victory, first with a 20 yard strike into the top corner followed by a calmly (funky run) taken penalty.
Well done boys and look forward to the 2nd round draw π

After two under par performances to finish pre season v Dyce and Colony, the boys bounced back fantastically in the first league game of the season out at Ellon.
Overall a brilliant display from the boys who played football and created an abundance of chances.
Great start to the season and look forward to next week's game.
Thanks to Lucy at Tesco extra Danestone for the donation for our boys raffle.
Edinburgh Cup Update π
Goals win games.........
It was a tough one to take on Saturday where so many chances were not taken. This ultimately denied the lads a place in the final on Sunday falling 2 points short in the group.
Despite the disappointment the boys can hold their heads high considering the quality of the competition. The experience was a great learning curve on their footballing journey.
All players were a credit to the club and their parents, we couldn't have asked for anymore. Similarly a special thanks to all the parents who travelled, it was brilliant having you all with us ππ»
Well done boys and the focus now turns to preparation for the season starting πͺπ»

Edinburgh Cup Update π
A mixed first day for the lads!
Despite plenty of chances in game 1 the boys somehow came away empty handed. A hard fought but deserved 1v0 win against County Down Select from Northern Ireland followed, before a final game 3v0 loss to a very strong Greenock Morton Academy.
2 wins tomorrow and the boys make the finals on Sunday πͺπ»π

The boys have arrived for the Edinburgh Cup π
Tomorrow we play 3 group stage matches:

The team travelled down to Dundee yesterday to play Riverside in a pre-season friendly match.
Despite a reduced squad the boys did terrifically well in the heat, running out 2v1 winners!
Two well taken goals with an Ashton B header from Calebs corner and a Matty S goal following some great build up play from the back.
Thanks to Riverside 2008s for hosting the match and all the best for your season when it starts.

π’ League Result
π EELY 3 v 1 Ellon Meadows
β½οΈ Archie
β½οΈ Ashton B
β½οΈ Jamie
The boys ended their first ever competitive season with a 3v1 victory over Ellon Meadows at New Advocates. A lot of good football played by both teams and cracking goals too.
A mid table finish is on the cards (other results pending) giving the team something to build on for next year as they look to push higher up the table. A slow start this year and reduced season certainly hasn't helped but the boys have developed and of late are really enjoying their football which is fantastic. They are raring to go for next season already π
Keep up the hard work lads ππ»
Hopefully have some friendly information to share in due course β½οΈ
2008s also send massive congratulations to the 2007 team who wrapped up the A league title following a 2v2 draw at home to Dyce. Fantastic lads, well done ππ»π
