Marine assurance is an integral part of our organisation, conducting well over 1️⃣5️⃣0️⃣ individual inspections in a typical year highlights our experience and commitment to vessel safety.
We feel the vessel inspection process and ever demanding QHSE requirements contribute to delivering an ever-improving service, whilst also complementing the existing fishing standards, positively affecting the wider industry. A high proportion of the vessels we have utilised has allowed the invaluable knowledge of offshore activities to be spread throughout the fleet, leading to a greater awareness of the UK Continental Shelf infrastructure when they return to fishing.
SFF Services Limited Operations Team visited Peterhead Harbour last week for an annual emergency response training session. It included discussions of Guard Vessel emergency procedures and how to raise the alarm during an incident, as well as a tour of the very impressive RNLI Tamar Class Lifeboat. Many thanks to Lifeboat Station Coxswain Fergus and the experienced crew of Guard Vessel Morning Dawn for their time and for sharing their experiences.
We provide experienced offshore personnel on board your vessels to assist with communications with fishing and general marine traffic encountered during your operations. We believe this helps encourage cooperation and minimise disruption for all parties involved.

We are actively seeking to increase our pool of Fisheries Liaison Officers to cover future offshore work requirements in 2023 and beyond.
The role of the Fisheries Liaison Officer (FLO) involves the use of local knowledge and fisheries experience to assist marine operations by encouraging co-operation between offshore companies and fishermen.
Requirements include:
✅Under 16.5m Skipper’s Ticket or above
✅A valid offshore survival certificate - PST, BOSIET/FOET
✅A valid offshore ENG1 medical certificate
Frequency and duration of trips vary and the work can be seasonal and ad-hoc, therefore the FLO role would not be suitable for someone seeking full-time employment.
A CV detailing relevant certificates and experience should be sent to [email protected]

Ideal candidates will be based in Scotland, possess a fisheries or marine biology qualification and/or have knowledge of fishing practices or relevant work experience. Organised by the British Office in Taipei and Scottish Development International (SDI), Elspeth Macdonald, Chief Executive Officer at the Scottish Fishermen's Federation (SFF) and Steven Alexander, Managing Director of SFF Services Limited (SFFSL) were pleased to take part in an online talk discussing ways to foster good relations between the fishing and offshore wind industries, focusing on the role of fishing liaison and input from the fishing industry into Scotland’s marine plan.
The SFF was formed in 1973 to preserve and promote the collective interests of its Scottish constituent member fishermen’s associations and works closely with government and industry bodies to exchange best practice and encourage co-existence between all users of the ocean, including a fishing liaison guidance document that has been published since 2014.
With Scotland and Taiwan sharing many similarities in terms of the importance of fisheries to the local economy and ambitions for offshore wind development, it was felt that the SFF’s experience and continued learnings may provide useful reference for Taiwan’s marine stakeholders.
Members of the SFF Services Limited Out of Hours Duty Team visited Aberdeen Coastguard this morning for a tour and familiarisation meeting. We greatly appreciated Team Leader Stephen Smith taking time out of his day to give us an insight on MRCC operations and to help discuss potential ways to improve procedures and communications. The visit helped to reiterate the message that time lost cannot be regained, and in the event of a serious incident or accident at sea the Coastguard should be notified without delay.
