A cracking game played in a cracking atmosphere on Wednesday afternoon at Camus Road as Moyola ground out another 3 points in the Foyle Cup.

It was tough for either side to really get going on a very tight pitch, but Moyola did have a couple of decent chances to take the lead. Unfortunately they found the Draperstown goalkeeper in inspired form as he kept them at bay.

Our first big chance fell to Harry who shot wide after good play from Dylan on the right.

Josh then stormed in on the left side of the box only to see his effort stopped by an outstretched leg from the goalkeeper. The ball did rebound back to Josh but he was crowded out by the Draperstown defence who scrambled the ball away.

Next up, Coleton had a fantastic opportunity to put the lads 1-0 up, but he was denied by a fantastic save again from the Draperstown goalkeeper as he raced through one on one.

Coleton, Kyle, and Luke also stung the goalkeeper’s palms from distance but it was starting to look like one of those afternoons for our boys.

But wait……..Kyle and Coleton decided that wasn’t an option. From a sumptuous corner delivery from Kyle, there was Coleton yet again to bullet a header low to the goalkeeper’s right and give Moyola a deserved lead.

Not to make this report sound one sided though - Draperstown caused plenty of problems of their own, and it took some good defending to keep them out.

Both sides had chances in the second half, particularly as the game wore on and started to become more nervy.

Draperstown must have thought they’d equalised midway through the half when their striker burst through the Moyola defence and fired a shot low to Jamie’s right. Jamie was equal to it though, producing an unbelievable save to push the ball away for a corner.

At the other end, Moyola were being restricted to long range efforts, and the Draperstown goalkeeper produced another wonderful save to push Coleton’s low drive around the post.

Back to the other end, and more confusion in the Moyola box looked to have left Draperstown with a golden opportunity from only 6 yards. Perhaps we can thank Luke for our 3 points as he got there just before the Draperstown player to hammer the ball away.

Moyola had 2 good chances late on to make it safe. First Jamie saw his low effort saved by the goalkeeper, before Coleton managed to beat the goalkeeper……but also his left hand post as the ball drifted wide.

That effort was met with the final whistle, and the boys were able to head home happy with another 3 points in the bag.
