At M D Smiths, we pride ourselves in being there when you need us the most.
We love nothing more than getting involved in local projects and also being able to give back a little to the community at the same time.
This time we were working on a project that is close to the heart of some of our staff at the local primary school.
Our customer, Ashby Hill Top Primary School Academy, are just a stoneβs throw away from M D Smiths offices in Ashby De La Zouch, Leicestershire, and play a key part to the local community.
It had been a wish for some time, for the children to have a library and music room. With limited funding, this had not become a reality. Ourselves and two local businesses we contacted to see if they could assist in bringing their dream to life, and we were only too happy to be part of something that gives back to the community and the local children.
Our brief was to create a large open space that would become the library with music room within. Works were to be completed during half term week to ensure disruption to the school.
With only a week to complete works, we began with the removal of a blockwork wall to open up a smaller space from the corridor, removed a stud wall from a small office that had been used for storage for some time and installed a new wall to the bottom of the space to create the music room complete with new doors, decorations, ceiling grid alterations and electrical works to suit the new layout.
Once we had opened up and created the new space, flooring works and furniture fit out was completed by two other local contractors who had also been selected to be part of this amazing project.
Our customer was amazed at the speed in which the works were completed and how much space this created for the children to have that key area to encourage the children to spend more time reading and doing what they love best, practising their music talents.
All of our staff have absolutely loved being part of this project and giving something back to such an important cause.

Such a lovely feeling to receive photos from your customer and know how thrilled they are with the work your team have put their heart and soul into.
A garden makeover almost complete, just the roof to go on to the hot tub area, but this hasnβt put a stop top them enjoying the work we have completed so far.
Our Joinery, Landscaping and Electrical Team, all pulled together and have worked very hard to create such a beautiful space, which was once a large and bland area mainly laid to lawn.
Our customer envisioned, an inviting space all of the family can benefit from, so we set to work putting forward ideas. Our only brief being, that they loved their trees, wanted to keep the dogs off the grass unattended, the children would love a seating area and a hot tub was a must for Mum and Dad to relax.
We even managed to add in some extras and replace the fencing and put in some storage and upgrade the lighting to the front of the house.
With such a beautiful space we thought we would bring them a few extra hours of outdoor time and have installed lighting to illuminate those summer evenings.

Early hours of this morning (Tuesday 6th February 2024) the van we got back last week has been stolen again!!!
The same two guys turned up on a motorbike and ripped out the tracker!

π€¬ THIEVES STRIKE AGAIN! π€¬
Last night (Thursday 1st February 2024) at around 10:30pm our M D SMITHS LTD van was stolen!
Two guys turned up on a motorbike and it took them approximately 30 minutes to get into the van and start it. There was no damage to any of the locks or the ignition barrel.
The keys were safely locked away in the office. They took the van and parked it in the Bulls Heads Carpark in Hartshorne. Luckily the van has a tracker and we were able to recover the vehicle.
Police have been informed π please share and look out for these thieves on a motorbike all in black, messing with vehicles!
