For any parent considering giving their breastfed a baby a bottle, the choice of teats available can be bewildering.

I’m often asked which teat will babies most reliably take. And honestly, if there was just one that suited all breastfed babies only that one would be on the market.

Companies thrive on marketing products with new claims and promises that their product is the superior, but generally you can disregard any advertising you see.

Their only aim is to get you to buy their stuff! It’s often a case of trial and error, and more expensive doesn’t always mean it’ll be more successful.

You can experiment with softness, length, width and flow but ultimately there’s no teat that’s truly like your ni**le, despite what the manufacturers want you to believe. I mean, it would be a bit weird if your ni**les looked like either of the teats shown above 😬

Generally, I find a gently sloping, firmer teat with a narrower base can have better results. So A rather than B in the images here. Often these are the cheaper teats too! Result!

Also, don’t forget after 12 weeks you could move your baby straight to an open cup instead of a bottle.

Here they are with Shu-Fang Wang, the founder of both Taiwan Academy of Breastfeeding and Chinese Lactation Consultant Association who kindly dedicated some time with us recently.

We are so grateful to have been able to share the work we do in East Kent with Shu-Fang Wang, particularly around the tongue-tie service.

This work has highlighted the significance of the IBCLC role and its impact on helping those with breastfeeding advice where needed.

A huge thank you to our IBCLCs who continue to provide high quality care and work hard in sharing their expertise and endless support to our families. 💙 🙏 💛
