fresh and gently fruity fizz from north east Italy.

Our wine selection for this week is a range of bold classic reds, ideal for Christmas.

How about Alasia Barolo, with its rich, powerful flavours? Or perhaps try Chante Cigale Châteauneuf Du Pape, with its herbal, oaky notes? Another suggestion for your Christmas table is the beautifully perfumed Domaine Berthelemot Pommard ‘Noizons’. Ontañón Rioja Gran Reserva is a wonderful wine, with aromas of dark fruit, red cherry, spice, to***co and mocha, and also well worth a try. Our final suggestion is Hermandad Cabernet Franc, with flavours of black fruit and sweet spices.

We know as a family how Christmas shopping means late evenings, Sundays and last minute dashes out on Xmas Eve and New Years Eve! So we are opening late on Thursdays and every Sunday until Christmas and keeping the doors open as long as the boss will allow me on the Eve's! Lovely wines, gins and rums to try and enjoy at home. Our wines of the week for this week are Christmas in two bottles a classic White Burgundy and Red Burgundy- Pinot Noir .

Macon-Charnay-Les-Macon has a good depth of flavour and provides wonderful length and unfolding flavours – freshly cut hay and meadowsweet for the nose, crunchy greengages on the palate, and some candied peel and lemongrass for the final notes. An extremely versatile wine that can be enjoyed alone, or try with grilled fish, chicken in cream sauce, or asparagus and mushroom risotto.

Bourgogne Pinot Noir ‘Illuminé’ is a superb example of a Pinot Noir. It has refreshing soft berry aromas, and is medium-bodied with an array of smooth ripe fruit flavours. An easy-drinking wine, it is an ideal accompaniment to grilled meats, pâtes or perhaps a cheese platter.

Our wine of the week this week is Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc, from Domaine Chante Cigale. This is a stylish white with warm, spicy aromas. The full-flavoured palate suggests poached pears and white peaches, and the wine has a long, lifted finish. Try a glass with fuller flavoured pork dishes, chicken or rich seafood. Also great on its own, or with goats’ cheese.

He loved them so much that he transported vine cuttings from Bordeaux to the Loire Valley. The berry has been growing and thriving there ever since. Today, Cabernet Franc is one of the most widely planted grape varieties in the world.
