I originally setup Daves Lawn Care in 2022 to offer a complete lawn care service which would be undertaken by just one company!
Now nearly 3 threes later I offer many other horticultural services to both domestic and commercial markets so I've now made adjustments to my logo which hopefully shows the development to the business but still remain true to my roots 😀
It's the end of October and that's a 20mm height of cut with a rotary mower... not too bad hey!
That was the last cut and visit on a 12 month Bespoke Service Plan where the weather this year has just been wet generally.
The grass strength and sword density has increased as well as growth rate, mainly just through good regular maintenance visits and practices.

This is the 3rd Monday on the trot I've been rained off... Argh bloody weather!
My Friday tip for you Now is a good time to get those edges back on your lawns!
There's generally still enough growth happening to recover from the wear you have worked but not enough to undo that go work you done 👍
Worm casts this time of year are generally wet and easily smear when grass cutting and this creates an unsightly appearance, I use a blower this time of year to disperse the castings and lift the grass plant giving it a great chance of recovery.
This attention to detail improves the appearance and leads to a healthy lawn as smeared worm casts cause the grass plant to die due to being smothered which will leave bare spots and end up requiring more work to rectify in the long run.

That's my last lawn renovation of 2024 carried out, the photos show some of the different stages involved.
The last photo was a week later when I returned due to weather and time tissues, where I rolled the surface and cut the grass for a more uniformed appearance.

Admin day today then!
Good Morning Everyone! Happy Wet Monday! ☔️☔️
It’s an incredibly damp start this morning with the overnight torrential rain still stalling over the Chilterns. We have seen around 2 inches of rain so far… with more to come! So the rain we currently have will slowly push its way west but as it does so it will revolve in a circle meaning it’s going to take a long time but it will get lighter as it does so… I would say 1pm would be where I expect to see things start to dry up but….. it’s then due to change direction again and push back to the south east corner meaning we will see another belt of heavy rain from 7-8pm tonight… temperatures reaching 15-16°.☔️☔️
This evening and tonight looks very wet like I said with heavy rain pushing SE. This will last until around 2-3am before it fades away. Nighttime lows of 12°. ☔️☔️
Tomorrow will be a mostly cloudy day with a few drizzle patches. A couple of sunny intervals are possible tho with highs of 15°.☁️⛅️
Wednesday on the whole looks like another grey day with light rain likely during the afternoon. Temperatures reaching 14°.☁️🌧️☁️
Thursday will be a day of sunshine and showers, these showers only look light and scattered currently. Highs of 16°.⛅️🌦️
Friday & Saturday both look NICE with lots of autumn sunshine to enjoy. Temperatures reaching 12°-13° so feeling chilly. ⛅️🌤️
Sunday is another nice day although we may see some thicker cloud cover. Temperatures reaching 13°.. ⛅️⛅️
So a rough start to the week but an improvement towards the end 🙏
Please post an flood photos/ videos and updates in the comments below! Thanks ☔️☔️

Some good advice there
Mid-September is a key time for garden maintenance in the UK, as it marks the transition from summer to autumn. Here are some gardening tasks you can focus on:
1. Lawn Care
- Mow the lawn: Keep cutting the grass regularly but raise the cutting height slightly as growth slows.
- Scarify: Use our scarifier to remove thatch and moss from the lawn to help improve air circulation
- Aerate: Use our aerator to relieve compaction and improve drainage.
- Apply autumn lawn feed: Use a feed that’s rich in potassium to strengthen the grass ahead of winter.
2. Planting and Dividing
- Plant spring-flowering bulbs: This is the ideal time to plant bulbs such as daffodils, crocuses, and tulips for a vibrant spring display.
- Divide perennials: Lift and divide congested clumps of perennials like hostas, asters, and daylilies to improve their vigour.
3. Pruning and Cutting Back
- Prune shrubs and hedges: Give evergreen hedges a final trim before winter. You can also cut back faded perennials and remove dead or damaged branches from trees and shrubs.
4. Harvesting
- Harvest fruits and vegetables: Pick late-season produce such as apples, pears, squash, and pumpkins. Start collecting any windfall fruit.
- Lift potatoes and onions: If not done already, lift and store your main crop of potatoes and onions before the weather turns damp.
5. Tidy Up and Prepare for Autumn
- Clear leaves: Start collecting fallen leaves to make leaf mould or add to your compost heap.
- W**ding: Remove any late-season weeds to prevent them from setting seed and spreading.
- Mulch: Apply mulch to your flower beds to protect plant roots from frost and retain moisture in the soil.
6. Greenhouse and Containers
- Bring tender plants indoors: Move tender plants like fuchsias and pelargoniums into the greenhouse or conservatory before the first frost.
- Check pots and containers: Water less frequently but ensure that containers are still looked after until they fully die back.
By staying on top of these tasks, you'll help ensure your garden is well-prepared for the winter months ahead!
