Capel Hefin
I am Hefin A. Jones and I have moved from across the road to these splendid premises in the former “English” Chapel. I aim to give this building a new lease of life.
The Chapel, a historic landmark in the High Street of Bala was finally closed in 2017. Built in 1810 it is the oldest surviving place of worship in the town. It is a Grade II listed building. The Chapel was formally an Anglican Chapel-of-Ease before the opening of Christ Church in Bala in 1855, then a Presbyterian Church of Wales.
All my life I have walked past this Chapel and I have always loved this building. It was a great shame to see the Chapel closed and empty, then when it came on the market I saw an exciting opportunity to buy it, move my shop in there and work towards restoring the Chapel to its former glory. I am so proud to own it - I still can’t believe it is mine! It is a small building, plain in design, very well built with a magnificent stone tower with clock and bell. I believe it is an important heritage building for the people of Bala and I hope to get the clock working again - and restore the bell mechanism so it can ring out through the town again!
My stock is now very well laid out in mock room areas and in display cabinets. The lofty walls of the Chapel are hung with mirrors and pictures. There is plenty of space for large furniture pieces too. Stock will vary from those shown in the photographs as items are sold, but the pictures are representative of what I always have for sale.
