GCSE results: Chenderit - Banbury FM 22/08/2024

GCSE results: Chenderit - Banbury FM Chenderit's Chair of the Governors has described the scenes of happy students collecting their GCSE results this morning as “heart warming”.

Photos from Chenderit School's post 22/08/2024

Students at Chenderit School are celebrating excellent grades in today’s GCSE results!

Jane Cartwright, Headteacher, said: “The atmosphere in school this morning has been so positive as our students, who have done extremely well, collected their results. We are all really proud of their achievements which are a testament to their hard work, dedication and resilience. We look forward to our students now being able to go on to their destinations of choice and, whatever our students choose to do next, we wish them success. On behalf of all staff and governors, I would like to congratulate each of our Year 11 students on their successes this year.”

Students have achieved top grades in a wide range of subjects, demonstrating that their hard work has been recognised and rewarded. Many students have met or exceeded their demanding targets and are rightly proud of what they have achieved. 82% achieved a standard pass in English and 75% achieved a standard pass in maths. Overall 68% of students achieved a standard pass in English and maths combined, with 69% of students achieving 5 or more standard passes. This represents excellence in these core subjects with the optional subjects performing just as well.

The following students’ achievements deserve a special mention:
- Josh Steer – eight grade 9s, one grade 8 and a grade 6
- Becky Spencer – seven grade 9s, two grade 8s and a grade 7
- Edward Currier – five grade 9s, three grade 8s and two grade 7s
- William Bouvier – three grade 9s, 6 grade 8s and a grade 7

Mrs Sophie Wilson, Chair of Governors, added: “To have seen Chenderit students so happy with their results this morning has been heart-warming. We congratulate each and every one of our Y11 students, commend our staff for all they have contributed to these positive outcomes and thank our parent body for their unwavering support.”

The staff and governors at Chenderit School congratulate each of our Year 13 students on an excellent set of A Level results this year.

Jane Cartwright, Headteacher, said: “We are immensely proud of our Year 13 cohort who have achieved fantastic results, embodying our ethos of ‘aim high, work hard and be nice’. These outcomes are a testament to our students’ hard work, dedication and resilience. We have enjoyed celebrating with our students this morning and we wish them all every success in their next steps”.

Robbie Macrory, Head of Sixth Form, added: “We are really proud of our Sixth Formers and are excited for their future plans. It is been fantastic to see their hard work and commitment be rewarded, and give them the results they need for the next stages of their lives. We are thrilled that just under 70% have gained places at their first choice university, while over a fifth have gained places at competitive institutions such as the Russell Group. Many others are starting competitive apprenticeships or working with employers. We wish every one of our students all the very best for their future plans.”

We wish to highlight the following students’ achievements in particular:

- Samuel Cavanagh, who achieved an A*, 2 As, and a C is now moving on to study mathematics at Lancaster University

- Henry Carter who achieved 3 As and is now moving on to study philosophy at Lancaster University

- Annabelle Dascalescu, who is achieved an A* and 2 As and is now moving on to study English and History at Warwick University

- Sam Leadbetter, who achieved 3 As and a C and is considering a variety of options

- Harriet Jones, who achieved an A* and 2 Bs and is now moving on to study Anthropology at Sussex University

- Evan Sutton, who achieved 2 As and a B and is now moving on to study Chemistry at Warwick University

- Summer Scott who achieved a distinction, an A and a B and is beginning a gap year.

- Kayleigh Best, who achieved a double distinction, an A and a C is now moving on to study History and Geography at Oxford Brookes

We congratulate each and every one of our Y13 students and wish them well for their futures.

We'd like to share a few quotes from our students:

Harri Jones: ‘I’m really happy and it’s gone even better than I thought’.

Sam Leadbetter: ‘I’m thrilled to get these results. Over the last two years I’ve worked really hard and I’ve had so much support from my teachers’.

After 11 years of dedicated service to Chenderit and 36 years in education in this area, Mrs Jane Cartwright, Headteacher of Chenderit School, is retiring on 31st August. Mrs Cartwright's tenure has been marked by remarkable achievements and an unwavering commitment to excellence in education including at The Warriner School (1988-2001) and Banbury School (2001-2013).

Since Mrs Cartwright took the helm Chenderit has experienced significant success and transformation. Under her leadership, the school has:

- Achieved excellent academic results and provided the very best life chances for the school’s students.

- Fostered a nurturing and inclusive school environment, ensuring every student has the opportunity to ‘Aim High, Work Hard and Be Nice’.

- Offered many educational visits and extracurricular opportunities, including sports, music, arts, debate and STEM programs.

- Undertaken many infrastructure improvements, including building the new £1. 2 million maths block and providing state-of-the-art facilities across the school for 21st-century learning.

-Secured two very positive Ofsted inspection reports, which includes the current outstanding judgement for Chenderit’s sixth form.

"Leading Chenderit has been one of the greatest privileges and honours of my life," said Mrs Cartwright. "I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished together. Our students, staff, and the entire school community, over 36 years, have continually inspired me with their support, dedication and passion. As I step into retirement, I am confident that Chenderit will continue to flourish and achieve even greater heights under the leadership of Mr Billings, the current Headteacher of Bishop Ullathorne Catholic School in Coventry who takes up his post at Chenderit on 1st September. I wish the whole Chenderit family continued success."

A Night at the West End IV: Chenderit's Musical Theatre Society ✨

Well done to all of our wonderful students involved and our fantastic MTS staff who support and encourage these young people to step onto the stage, whether that be acting, dancing, singing, set designing or playing an instrument 🎭

If you are interested in joining MTS, please get in touch with Ms Jackson-Pate, Ms Haywood or Mr Ledger!

Photos from Chenderit School's post 02/07/2024

We are incredibly proud of the whole cast, band and crew that took part in ‘A Night at the West End VI’; our second school production of the year.

Ms Jackson-Pate would like to thank the Performing Arts team for their collaborative efforts that made this second production of the year possible! What a team, and what an achievement in just a few months!

You may be wondering why the old photo below and perhaps recognise a few familiar faces, one particular face our students will recognise is that of Miss Darke, who was from our iconic production of ‘Hairspray’ the musical in 2015. The reason why we say ‘iconic’ is that following this production we officially re-branded as ‘Musical Theatre Society’ and so the very first ‘A Night at the West End’ took place later in June that year. Miss Darke is not only a super Maths teacher at Chenderit School, but can teach Music and Dance too, and we have all loved having her join our MTS family and heading up the dance troupe!

We are so lucky to have ex-students come back and watch our productions, and even luckier to have them come back and join us as part of the team! Mrs Haywood and Mrs Jackson-Pate shared this inspirational story with Year 7 students who already love the thought of coming back in the future!
