🌳 Mary Wellesley gifted Hockeridge and Pancake Wood in the Chilterns to the RFS in 1986, having replanted it in 1950’s and 60’s with a bold vision of managing the ancient woodland for resilience and biodiversity. The Royal Forestry Society continue to manage this exceptional woodland and Kerry Goodwin at designed a vase and 4 plaques to include various examples of wildlife as well as the towering trees, pale ferns, and rich undergrowth. Each of the plaques include features that define Hockeridge and Pancake Woods as an ancient woodland: pillow mounds, historic ponds, some of the 23 native tree species, clusters of mushrooms, and acorn-hiding jays.
