On the hottest day of the year so far Friday 19th July saw the whole school community participate in our Aspirations Academy Sports Day with everyone trying to amass points for their colleges. It was a true festival of sport and physical activity as students competed across 11 different activities to score points on, including the traditional athletics events such as 100m, high jump and long jump, but also other events such as Beat the Goalie, Vortex Howler Throw, Slack Line crossing and our favourite, the Tug of War. Following a brilliant BBQ at lunch with the Technology department the whole campus came out for the hotly contested relays. This year we had our highest ever number of participations from students and we are so proud of them for engaging in the day as well as they did. Those who competed and contributed to their college's score performed brilliantly and were a credit to their college and our school.
Students from Futures institute had a great day on Friday at the British Motor Museum. Students from year 7, 8 and 9 got a tour around the museum as well as participating in some very fun STEM activities. The group loved their visit and left happy with smiles on their faces with goodie bags.
Research literature suggests that a smooth transition to secondary school plays an important part in the general development of young people as they move towards adulthood. At Futures Institute we have worked hard to develop a smooth and effective transition for all of our students, whilst recognising that some students need that little bit extra support.
Today we trained 30 Peer Mentors to support our new Year 7's in September. They learned what made an exceptional Peer Mentor, the fears of some students moving to secondary school and the specific roles they will play in providing the support that might be required.
You are cordially invited to our Summer Showcase performing arts event next
Tuesday 16th July 7pm in Wykham Theatre
We have a very talented group of Y7 & 8 students eager to perform to an audience as part of our newly formed Performing Arts Club. They've been rehearsing twice a week for the past two terms and their commitment has been exemplary. We will also have a variety of solo instrumental and vocal performances by students from Y7 up to Y12.
They would love to see you in the audience and I'm sure you will enjoy the show.
Today, Our year 12 students had an exciting adventure; exploring regeneration projects in Scarborough and observing coastal erosion in Hornsea. Despite the very rainy weather, the students had a blast measuring groynes and beach profiling, for four hours. With smiles and laughter, they managed to rack up an impressive 50,000 steps over two days. Tomorrow we will be back at it again heading south to further assess the impacts of erosion on this crumbling coastline.
Our Year 12 geography students embarked on an exciting field trip to the Holderness Coast. We explored Hull, Hessle Road, and Humber Street, diving into the unique urban landscapes and seeing how people interact with place and space up close.
After 3 years at the Bronze Level we are delighted to announce that we have achieved the School Games Silver Mark Award for the 2023/24 academic year. The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including our young leaders who made our competitions possible. As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone in the PE Department has been rewarded this year.
Here's to next year and going for Gold!
Year 12 Performing Arts visited The Globe Theatre in London on Thursday 4th July.
We walked along the South Bank of the River Thames in the heart of the cultural centre of London. We had a guided tour of The Globe and had an opportunity to learn even more about its history in preparation for one of their modules.
After lunch we watched a performance of RIchard III as groundlings did in the 16th Century, standing in the yard. Luckily the weather was good. The performance was excellent with some powerful performances by the cast. It was a unique and informative experience. We took a detour to the Tate Modern to look at some contemporary art as inspiration for their devised unit.

The Wimbledon Trip yesterday was very successful, where we saw a two GB Rank 1 vs Rank 2 matches, first the Women's and then the Men's. Unfortunately we had to leave before the 3rd match on Court 1 but both matches that we saw were of a very good standard and thoroughly enjoyed by the students.
Before going into Court 1, students had the chance to explore the grounds, take photos and watch some matches on the Outside Courts. Molly and Charlie managed to get interviewed by ITV because of their brilliant hats!
On Tuesday 2nd July, some of our Year 7 linguists visited Tudor Hall for a captivating theatrical experience. The play, titled βLe ChΓ’teau,β was performed in both French and English, providing a delightful fusion of language and culture. Students from both Futures and Wykham Park were able to attend, creating a vibrant audience eager to engage with the performance.
The production was interactive, with several of our students given the opportunity to participate actively, utilising their French language skills. This hands-on approach not only entertained the audience but also enhanced their learning experience, making language acquisition more dynamic and engaging.
