Certified therapist helping people sleep better, feel calmer, and overcome unhelpful habits. Virtual Sessions

When we act, interact, and think in a positive way, we trigger the production of .

This neurotransmitter is often referred to as ‘the happy chemical’. Producing serotonin helps us to feel calmer, more focused and happier.

In fact, serotonin is more than just a . It’s vital to almost every system in our body, including digestion, appetite, blood clotting, and sleep.

However, neurotransmitters don’t hang around for long. After serotonin is released, it is reabsorbed and recycled by cells in a process called reuptake. So we need to keep on doing those 3 Ps to ensure a nice, balanced flow.

So let’s have a little look at how can give you a serotonin boost:

Quite simply, positive actions are those things that make us feel good. Of course, these can differ from person to person. It might be going for a walk in nature, an exercise class, baking a cake, or spending time on a hobby. It can be small things too like enjoying a cup of coffee or listening to the birds sing.

Another great post/ tip on how to hack your brain 👌

Repost from

When you exercise, you provide a low-dose jolt to the brain’s reward centers—the system of the brain that helps you anticipate pleasure, feel motivated, and maintain hope. ⁣

Over time, regular exercise remodels the reward system, leading to higher circulating levels of dopamine and more available dopamine receptors. In this way, exercise can both relieve depression and expand your capacity for joy.⁣

Many of you may be wondering where on earth I have been… well, just over 2 months ago I fostered dashing Monty.

He quickly and officially became a Bates, and lets just say he has turned our world upside down 💕

He is 10 months old now and has his fair share of behavioural issues, but I am so looking forward to watching him grow in confidence to become a wonderful companion for myself and Pippin 🤗

I had a big re-brand ready, with all my swanky assets and handy blogs lined up. But, between a new role, and a new puppy my bucket has been pretty full. Let me tell you, rescue puppies are no joke! 🐶

Sbhypnotherapy will be back up and running at full force soon enough. I am still seeing clients. So, if you need support do continue to drop me a DM, email, or call.

16/11/2021

My clients will be familiar with the benefits of positive actions, not least for giving you a dose of endorphins, serotonin, dopamine and/ or oxytocin to boost your mood.

Don’t forget that positive actions don’t have to be strenuous, they can include:
🧘🏻‍♀️hatha (gentle/ slow) yoga
🙆🏻‍♀️ gentle stretching
⚽️ a casual kick around
🐶 taking the dog for a stroll
🏊‍♀️a leisurely swim
💃🏻dancing
🏖a beachside stroll
🏌🏻‍♀️golf
🥏frisbee - always best with a dog

Get creative with your positive actions 👩🏻‍🎨

The brain explanation always triggers an *aha* moment for the people I work with 🤔

Learning how the brain works, how depression, anxiety, OCD etc. is created, why we can
suffer in the way we do, and what we can do to feel better, can be tremendous relief for those in a mental health crisis, and a powerful motivator for those working towards a specific goal.

On that note, here’s some more interesting facts about the brain 🧠

Let’s celebrate random acts of kindness this and ☺️

🧠 Mental health is JUST as important as physical health.

🧠 Your brain works tremendously hard to keep you alive and well.

🧠 Sometimes your brain may also get things wrong. It might perceive danger when your perfectly safe. If this happens, acknowledge the negative thoughts and sensations are of no use - and will pass- and move on.

🤔 If this is happening more and more, think of what you could do to help your brain.

Could you:
✅ do something to empty your stress bucket?
✅ give it a boost of happy hormones?
✅ do with a rest?

For anyone feeling a little blue:
1) You are not alone
2) There is help out there
3) This feeling is temporary
4) You can learn the tools you need to thrive in uncertain and difficult times

New research from the Co-op, in partnership with Mind, SAMH (Scottish Association for Mental Health) and Inspire, found over a third of people (37%) agreed they didn’t have the support or tools to deal with the ‘ups and downs of life’ such as stress, pressure or difficult circumstances.

Panic attacks can be scary - trust me I know firsthand.

But, they don’t have to be! When you feel a panic attack coming on, practice diaphragmatic breathing (or belly breathing) to activate your parasympathetic nervous system and stimulate the vagus nerve. This activates your relaxation response, reducing your heart rate and blood pressure and lowering stress levels.

With belly breathing, practice makes perfect so why not give it a go on ? 😃

Listening to a hypnotherapy recording every night will also increase the impact of belly breathing, as does having a hypnotherapy session.

At your wits end? The pandemic resulted in an overwhelming increase in and among employees across industries, but especially for those working in the sector.

This is why I am so pleased that is running this campaign to raise awareness, and offer quick relief to those struggling to take some time for themselves 🙌🏻

There are some great tips to help get you started, and keep you on track.

On a personal level, working full time for a global enterprise, alongside studying to become a certified solution focused hypnotherapist, adopting a rescue pup with her share of training needs, launching a small business, and seeing clients can be overwhelming, even though they are all deeply satisfying and very much worth it. So I will also be taking full advantage of the above tips. Remember: self care is not selfish!

Want to make a change, but not sure where to start? Take a stroll, and this is why..

Moving can have such a profound impact on our brains! 🧠

repost:

🛑 But wait, you may be thinking, exercise is hard.
🛑 Finding the time is tough enough, but committing to some hardcore fitness plan is going to be almost impossible for a lot of people.

That may be true but the good news is that the exercise that researchers found had a restorative effect in Alzheimer’s patients was…🎉

Walking.🚶🏽‍♂️

And not power walking for hours at a time, but rather walking for 40 minutes a day just three times a week. 🤯

That’s all it took for the hippocampus to increase in volume and for study participants to see a measurable improvement in their ability to remember things.🙌🏾

That’s amazing, right? But what if you don’t have Alzheimer’s? Well, you can still experience the benefits of walking.

Simply moving your body and stimulating the senses can activate pathways in the nervous system and literally make your brain cells grow.

✅Turns out exercise isn’t just good for your heart and your other muscles but also your brain and, what’s even better, you can do it right now without a gym membership or a personal trainer!

👟You just need to get up and go.👟

Wherever you are in your personal journey, I promise you there is hope! The brain can and does heal when you give it the appropriate treatment, care and love.

Who’s with me in walking more this week? Comment YES below!

28/08/2021

But it doesn’t have to!

You CAN change your perspective to overcome unhelpful habits and thinking patterns, and regain control of your life - and enjoy the process too 🧠
