It is with a heavy heart I write this message. Today myself and Sean lost our best friend and company mascot Colin. He passed away peacefully after a short illness. For all that met him he made a lasting impression and we hope you remember him as we do. Thank you .

Barnsley and Cudworth will always be historically linked to the mining of coal but equally important are the industries of glass, wire-drawing and linen weaving. Linen weaving was an important part of Barnsley’s industrial heritage and arguably the earliest known textile, with a history that dates back thousands of years.

It started in small loom shops where skilful weavers worked the machinery with family members helping. Steam-powered mills and factories employed hundreds of weavers. Others worked in the bleach works, dye works, calendaring works, and linen warehouses.

Originally the building the mosaic is mounted on was owned by the Salvation Army before becoming the Hard Knocks Boxing Club. Recently it was taken over by local business Darling Buds of Cudworth who make quality hand-crafted wreaths, garlands and centrepieces for all seasons and occasions.

At the bottom of Barnsley Road, you can see the Free-standing Chimney at Bleachcroft Farm. This structure dates back to 1854 and was built by the Barnsley manufacturer Henry Jackson for use in the linen trade. It is the most impressive remnant of the Midland Bleach Works that once stood on this site and is now a Listed Grade II building.

We are delighted to have been asked to display one of these beautiful mosaic artworks on our building ❤️
