I told you we were itching to do an event again 😂 We’re having a fun Easter 🐣 event. £5 per child (includes Easter egg hunt). They’ll be fun Easter activities to do also at a small cost & all profits go to the cic to fund therapy. Please get in contact to book a time slot. Any family is welcome 🤗 you don’t have to be accessing therapy to book this. Saturday 18th March.

This topic came up this week when a child ran out of the classroom! Why? Because they weren’t heard by the teacher and so wouldn’t sit down, the teacher raised their voice and the child left. The child experienced early neglect and domestic abuse. Not being heard and raised voices trigger automatic nervous system reactions. The child was blamed and came to therapy with his head in his hands due to shame! Use empathy where you can always ❤️

I was reviewing a Filial Therapy intervention this week and the parent was reflecting on how calm she becomes during Filial Therapy sessions. It’s such a powerful intervention and empowering for parents but in an emotionally containing way ❤️

Love ❤️ this 🤗

When we talked about our plans to adopt, people often asked a lot of questions. The most common were along the lines of “are you sure you can love someone else's child as much as you love your daughter?”

I always found that quite strange. I’m not biologically-related to my husband, but nobody ever suggested that I should marry a relative, or questioned whether I could love him as much as my biological family! Why do so many people think we need a biological link to a child to love them?

We have some very close friends who have children of a similar age to our eldest, and some had younger siblings. I adore those children, and have looked after some of them when friends had work etc. The more time I spend with them, the more I feel that our bond grows stronger. It’s the same with any relationship really, but sometimes people assume that the love we have for a child is more difficult to form. I actually think children are often the easiest to bond with!

I love my friends’ children who have no biological link to me or my husband, so I have never had any doubt that I would love any child we adopted. It’s not genetics that makes me love my family! Love is complicated and difficult to explain or understand, but one thing I am certain of is that love does not depend on DNA.

American Opera Singer, Robert Brault, put it well when he said:
“There is an instinct in a woman to love most her own child – and an instinct to make any child who needs her love, her own.”

Why do I fundraise so hard?

Why do we fight so hard to raise funds for therapy? Because things happen in life that parents had no power to protect their children from. Asking for help with a child’s mental health is so hard to do. Parents often feel shame that their child suffered trauma. So imagine then when they ask for help there’s nothing they can access, no funding streams and they don’t have the resources to pay for the service their child needs. I’ve just been able to tell another family that we’ve raised funding for their child’s therapy ❤️ I absolutely love giving this news! The parent was thrilled 😍 That’s thanks to everyone who’s helped us fundraise and donated. This is child no 9 that we will have funded since starting the CIC 🤗

Our CIC is so lucky to be receiving so much local support! With all the donations and fundraising it looks like we now have enough to fund another local child awaiting therapy 🙌

We exceeded our goal of £1,000 and raised a total of £1,570!! 🥳

Thanks to you all, today we delivered £570 worth of food to Barnsley Foodbank Partnership, who provide emergency food and support to local people who are referred to them in crisis 🎁

We’ll also be donating a share of the remaining £1,000 to the following 5 Charities / Causes:

❤️ £200 will go to The Clothing Bank Charity who provide clothes to families that struggle to clothe their kids

❤️ £200 will go to Cash for Kids South Yorkshire & Derbyshire who provide gifts for children across our region who are at risk of waking up to an empty space under the tree on Christmas Day.

❤️ £200 will go to the Bcdp Drop-In who provide hot drinks and meals for the Homeless

❤️ £200 will go to Equipt Therapy Services who help children who struggle with emotional, social and behavioural difficulties.

❤️ And £200 will go to the Barnsley Foodbanks.
