A reintroduction to our much loved and beautifully built Sail Loft no.1 tri trestle frame. Simply styled, no bells, no whistles. It looks the absolute business and just, well....works. Solid English oak, hand selected, then carefully hand made to order here in the studio.

This design is where it all started for us. That first Devon ash iteration was destined for the stunning here in North Devon, with inspiration taken from a piece spotted at the hotel. We've tweaked it along the way but every build since has the very same essence of that very first one. We love it.

What a fab week at the studio with multiple really interesting projects quietly bubbling away in the background. We're talking to various people at the moment about all manner of exciting commissions, large and small, all of which will take us up to and beyond the end of the year. Beyond this you might notice a few subtle changes to our website and the imagery we use, as we try to more clearly tell the story of what we do and why we do it. These beautiful, simple little boards, one English oak and one English ash, translate part of that story.

We're on a little break. A few days in Brighton, and cor, does this place re-energise! Love North Devon to bits but sometimes we all need a taste of something different, just to shake things up a tad. Good for the soul as they say.

Anyway, back to business. Another fantastic shot of our beautiful English oak Sail Loft table and bench set, very much not in Brighton I should add, although I'm really feeling those similar vibes. Considered, creative, eclectic, ice cool. Loving the pops of colour.

Every detail of this beautiful home has been carefully considered and the results really do speak for themselves. We worked closely with the client to ensure our pieces fitted seamlessly into the stunning overall scheme.

This is what it's all about. Precious English grown oak. It's not always easy to find in the volume, size and quality needed for big pieces of furniture that's for sure. It's an ongoing challenge to source what we need for our tables - so just why do we do things this way?

Well, when I set up Yaffle and Bosk I made a choice. I wanted our products to not just be well made, but to do, and be, something more. For me it was a pretty simple equation. By using timber grown and processed as locally as possible the negative impact on our environment is negligible, while our positive impact is actually very tangible. The use of traceable timber from certified, responsibly managed British woodlands directly feeds back into the future well being of our countryside. It really is that simple.

There are easier and cheaper ways, but we choose something else.

So here we are, late summer (or should that read 'autumn') vibes. Thought this recent commission deserved another shot at the limelight. Fabulous clients refurbishing a tucked away gem of a property just up the road, here in North Devon. Generous 8 seater, custom built dining table (or 10-12 with kids perched at the ends!). And how about that view!

This stunning table and bench set left the studio for its new home just up the road in Croyde earlier this week. A fine example of our approach to custom builds, this one. Our client loved both our Mr Morley and Skylark designs, so we had a thought, why the heck shouldn't we have a combination of both.

Working closely with the customer we cherry picked the elements they liked to come up with something new. And something that'd marry perfectly with their bespoke color choice. A chunky angular frame, a thinner top, a lush colour. Rock solid and built to last. Yum.

We all need the odd day off. And I just squeezed in a few cheeky ones catching up with my nearest and dearest. It was all very nice indeed I must say. Food for the soul.

As always though, there's plenty going on here in the workshop. Our rather lovely Skylark dining table has caught quite a few admiring eyes recently and seemed more than a little deserving of a set of complimentary benches. And so here we are. A new design, mid build, being tested for feel and comfort. Yup. Tick. They rock.

As you guys probably know by now, we do very much celebrate that clean, pared back aesthetic, but it's always well considered, with a laser focused eye on form and function. It's got to work well and look lovely! These fellas certainly hit the mark when it comes to the Y&B style. And with hand picked oak, this time from the Nettlecombe Estate near Watchet, these little lovelies are anything but ordinary.

Three little words.

Itching to get the lovely sign up outside, especially as the sun is shining! It's not quite time yet, though, which is frustrating. The big beautiful arched doorway needs some work, just to do it the justice it deserves. It'll have to sit in the corner and be patient for a little while longer. Ah well...

Although we don't have a big showroom space these days (the overheads were killing us!) the new workshop does have a rather lovely display area for you guys. If you'd like to pay us a visit there'll always be a table or two to see alongside some other bits of Yaffley loveliness. Oh, and ask nicely and I might even pop the kettle on 🙂.

Our dear Skylark no.14 dining table sitting very pretty, now settled in and very much right at home here in the new workshop. We've exposed these beautiful old walls hoping they'd nicely offset our beautiful tables, and ya know what? They really do. Happy days🙂.

So. The nitty gritty. Skylark no.14 in English ash with our 'Invisible Finish' which maintains that lush pale, natural look of raw wood. I'm a little bit in love with this one, I'll admit it.

Fuelled with coffee, a mellow Saturday morning spent ticking ticks off the tick list. This customised Skylark frame has come together really very, very nicely. Lush west country oak, this time from the Stuckeridge Estate in Devon. It's a really satisfying part of the process this bit, just tweaking and tidying and finally seeing that thing that's been a picture floating around your head become a solid form. Nice.

I'm still figuring out the ergonomics of this new work space and spending far too much time hunting through boxes trying to find 'that thing', but, much like this frame, it's all coming together nicely. Happy maker. Happy days 🙂.

The original concept was to showcase lovely English ash but let's face it, it's a table design that'll going to look really rather tasty in oak too. Ohhh yes indeedy❤️. Our first build to come out of the new workshop and it's nearing completion.... I'm more than a tad excited to see this one finished 😍.

Afternoon all. Thought it was about time I broke cover again. A snapshot of my good self in the usual chirpy Monday morning mood (ahem) and genuinely loving life in the new workshop. Well it's a workshop soon to have a built in display/photography space too, hence the snazzy Yaffle & Bosk Studio moniker. How posh are we!

After a pretty surreal, and not particularly enjoyable few months this little business has new lease of life and a new home. And it already feels very much like home. You know that moment after all the stress and anxiety of a move, when everything is kinda in place, and you just step back and think 'yup, it's all going to be ok, this'll do....'.

Today was another little hop forward as proper work on commissions finally started in earnest again after the inevitable pause moving and getting things set up. Thank you to all our lovely customers who have been so incredibly patient and supportive. You guys rock!

Ok, so it's Sunday sneak peak time.

A little look at a corner of the new workshop/premises. Yes, yes, I know it's still a bit rough around the edges. Cut me some slack purleeze, it's very much a work in progress! But. It will be a little oasis of calm. A tactile, creative space. A properly good workspace where the Y&B ethos of quality, honesty and sustainability can shine through.

We said our goodbyes to the vineyard last weekend. A weird mix of sadness for what might have been, and, in the end, relief for escaping what actually was. It became apparent way back last summer that something wasn't right and moving on kinda seemed inevitable. Although commercial space is tough to find in North Devon this little gem popped its head up and by happy coincidence I got to see it before it went on the open market. It got me thinking. Hmmmm..... possibilities!

Essentially we're getting an upgrade. New space. A fresh outlook. Yaffle and Bosk 2.0 is looming!

There seems to be something that draws our lovely tables to a home by the sea🌊⛵.

This absolute humdinger has seriously lucked out. I mean, really, look at that view! A stunning house and loveliest clients to work with. We chatted at length about the size, finish, colour, in fact everything, for this centre piece dining table. This kind of collaborative approach really does take the enjoyment of the process up to another level. Loved building it, and then, you finally see it's home and you just have to go...double wow!

This is a large solid Devon oak, customised Drift no.5 table. The first we've done with added colour and it definitely won't be the last. And what makes this already beautiful table, and all our tables, that extra bit special? Well, we can tell you where the origin tree is from. And, it won't be far away. In this case the Stuckeridge Estate in mid Devon. So, from tree to table there are only 35 embedded miles in this piece. Traceable, sustainable, responsibly made. That's pretty special if you ask me.
