If you’re a fan of a deep tissue massage, believe it or not, it’s likely you’re also a fan of holistic therapy.

The part that makes this therapy holistic is less about the physical manipulations of tissues and more about our approach to the body. The majority of techniques I use are deep tissue techniques, applied with thought and sensitivity by listening to what your body is telling me. How does this tension you’re experiencing affect the wider body and mind? Where do I need to work to support overall healthy functioning? Does this ailment stem from where you feel pain, or is it a symptom of a problem elsewhere?

The word holistic can be simply translated to mean whole. A therapy that listens and takes care of you as a whole. Focussing on the specific areas that ail you whilst tending to wider need.

So if you’re experiencing pain or tension and feel like deep tissue work is what you need, please get in touch, as holistic therapy may well be the key to becoming a more comfortable you.

Massage, be it sports therapy, holistic therapy, or physio manipulations, is beneficial to enhancing your performance in the gym. Here’s a few reasons why you should add massage to your maintenance routines.

Faster Recovery: Massage promotes muscle healing, reduces inflammation, and alleviates soreness, aiding in faster post-workout recovery.

Injury Prevention: Massage improves flexibility, joint range of motion, and identifies potential problem areas, reducing the risk of exercise-related injuries.

Relaxation and Stress Reduction: Massage activates the body's relaxation response, lowers stress levels, and supports mental and physical recovery from intense workouts.

Book your regular appointments now, you won’t regret it!

Headaches and migraines causing you grief?

Massage therapy techniques can help relax muscles throughout the body, reduce muscle tension in the head, neck, and shoulders, and promote overall relaxation, which may help alleviate headache and migraine symptoms.

Drinking plenty of water after a massage session is also beneficial to your body to rehydrate and recover from headaches and migraines.

10 BENEFITS OF MASSAGE
10. ENCOURAGE HEALING

Massage truly supports your body to heal. It is an incredible tool post injury to boost circulation, increasing blood flow to damaged tissues. It can be used to reduce pain, increase mobility and supports full rehabilitation of the affected area.

It also supports mental healing post injury. Experiences of trauma, physical or mental, can leave us lacking in confidence, feeling fragile and incapacitated. Massage provides space and time for the brain to process these feelings, and by supporting physical recovery, we are also able to support mental recovery.

22/02/2023

I do a lot of 'neck, back and shoulders' treatments, and it's not because I follow a routine! Every massage I do is completely tailored to my client's individual needs. It happens that a vast majority of clients I see are experiencing pain or discomfort in their neck, back and shoulders.

This is often a result of poor posture, jobs that either require a high level of physicality or are desk based. Experiences of stress often cause tension, and a lifting of the shoulders. And all of these ailments take their toll on our spinal health, with our spine being that central and vital core to all posture and movement.

You can care for your posture and the health of your neck, back and shoulders with regular massage. Promoting recovery of current pains and protecting against wear and tear and future discomfort.

10 BENEFITS OF MASSAGE
9. ALLEVIATE DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY

Massage is deeply relaxing, calming both the brain and the physical body. It can help reset your body's fight or flight stress response, it can release endorphins and happy hormones to boost mood and it can provide the opportunity for much needed mental rest and recovery. Clients who experience depression and anxiety often report that their physiological symptoms are significantly reduced during a massage session and these benefits can often be experienced long after the session.

Wherever you are with your sense of mental wellbeing, massage is here to support you.

The power of touch and human connection is the core reason why I do what I do. This quote, from a TED Talk about the beauty of touch by Patrick McIvor, is one that has stuck with me for a long time. Touch is our first language, a vital part of being human which we literally cannot do without. Think of birth and death, our first and last experiences, hopefully being held with love. We really can't be without touch. As a society we are becoming more and more touch phobic, and a lack of positive human contact is detrimental to health and wellbeing.

As a massage therapist, my aim is to surround a client with touch; quality touch, caring touch, filed with positive intention and healing.

Think about the touch and human contact you receive in a day. Is it frequent? Is it quality? How does it make you feel? How can you give and receive more positive touch in a day? If you do something today, take 10 minutes to watch Patrick's talk on Youtube, and absorb what he has to say about the beauty of human touch.

10 BENEFITS OF MASSAGE
8. REDUCE FATIGUE
Massage reduces experiences of fatigue in so many ways. An hour on the massage table can be as restful to the body as a full night of sleep. Along with the benefit of improving sleep quality and improving circulation, your muscles are more able to recover from strenuous activity, exercise and injury. The mood boosting benefits of massage also continue long after the massage session ends, reducing feelings of mental fatigue.

Following a massage treatment, a new client of mine asked this question.
"Do you think I can do that every month?"
The best find of feedback I get from what I do, is when clients return for more, and the vast majority of my clients see me for a series of regular treatments. My answer to this question will always be yes! And not just for my personal gain, but for the incredible benefits clients experience when they make massage a regular habit.

Find your reason for massage and make time to care for you.

Do you suffer from digestive discomfort?

Gut health is a essential part of your overall health. Alongside maintaining a healthy, balanced diet, massage can be a useful tool in supporting digestion and reducing abdominal discomfort.

It can be a little strange to imagine having your belly massaged and it can be an unusual experience receiving it for the first time, but abdominal massage is a soothing and highly effective therapy. It aids digestion, supports core stability and muscular health. It can help with mobility of the spine and side body, as your abdominal muscles support your whole torso. It helps to relax the diaphragm and connections around the hip so has wider reaching benefits beyond the digestive system.

It can also help you to feel more connected to your belly, sensitively working with self esteem, positive feelings about your own body and acceptance of areas we may struggle with. A truly special area of the body, and indirectly the mind, to work with.

Have you ever received abdominal massage? Let me know your thoughts!

10 BENEFITS OF MASSAGE

6.IMPROVE SLEEP

Imagine you're lying on a massage table, in a calm therapy room. Your body fully supported, warm under fresh white towels with a soft and comforting blanket keeping you cosy. Soft music plays around you as your therapist guides you through your therapy session. You feel your mind empty as your muscles relax from the gentle yet deep pressure being applied to them. After your session, you feel as though you are floating and you find the rest of your day passes with comfort and ease.

Massage creates deep relaxation in the body and mind which clients often experience long after their session ends. Regular massage helps to rest and recharge the body and reminds you how to relax more easily. Clients often experience improvements to their sleep following massage treatments and these benefits often have a cumulative effect. Regular massage helps you to rest, repair and recharge every time your head hits the pillow.
