Great to have a local sport community

Some great sparring tonight, we had longsword, sabre, sword and buckler, single rapier and rapier and dagger and some armoured combat.

Good to have people from other clubs attending also. We look forward to welcoming you again next time.

The Internet spoke (our Instagram followers) and we listened: coming this summer – a Freeplay Day for women and nonbinary folks.

We are very excited to put this together as it’s an opportunity for femmes and thems to fence in a safe, friendly environment. For many of us it’s a rare chance to fence people outside our usual range of training partners.

We will soon be reaching the end of our current training block, after which we have a sparring night where we have an extended period where we put into practice the skills we have been learning. It is a relaxed and fun evening.

The sparring night will be Wednesday 7th February from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at our usual training hall.

If anyone from another HEMA club is interested in joining us for the sparring evening, please message me at [email protected].

There will be no charge on this occasion. We have a good range of members from beginners to those with tournament experience and across most HEMA weapons.

First of all, let me wish you all happy holidays full of joy. This year has also passed and although you could not see us active online or on social media too much, we were not idle: this year we produced more than 6,500 swords & feders for you. Needless to say, it was no small task.

In addition, I am happy to report that several years of development have been completed or are in the process of being completed,. This way we have managed to shorten the production time of the orders. Allow me to show you a few examples of our developments:

- We managed to shorten the "almost too long" 6-month waiting list of our feders to 1 month thanks to improvements and automation in production. This means we can basically produce more than 25 feders / day (not yet optimized).

- We have almost doubled the capacity of our heat treating furnaces.

- We almost finished developing our internal framework that manages orders and stocks from A to Z. It also includes quality assurance & control and shipping.

- Our newest CNC hall, which is our biggest investment so far, is under design and construction. For what it means exactly, you will see. It's a secret.

In addition, we are waiting for you with a lot of new things in 2024/Q1. Just to mention a few things, next year our completely redesigned side sword and rapier section will debut.

However, one thing has not changed and we do not plan to change it: we always want to provide the best HEMA equipment at the best possible price to all fencers around the globe.

We had our awards presentation from our club league competition before tonight’s class.

Congrats to everyone who took part fighting, scoring, judging and to those cheering the others on. Thank you Stephen Crockford for helping organise and run the event, Andrew Clarkson for helping with the trophy.

Well done Luke (Gary pictures receiving the medal for Luke), Jono Timm and Robbie Louis Frederick McSweeney our bronze, silver and gold medalists.

I just discovered it’s National Fitness Day today.

Congrats to all those who fenced at Wessex League at the weekend. There were a few members of the club competing in various disciplines, a special mention to Will who narrowly missed out on the gold medal in the beginners longsword with some fantastic fencing.

We have a group of new people coming to the club for the first time tonight for a taster session, I look forward to crossing swords with them. Sport and fitness can come in many shapes and forms.

ANNOUNCEMENT! 2023 DATES

We're excited to announce the dates and locations for the Wessex League 2023 events.

16th + 17th September - Location: Winnersh
21st + 22nd October - Location: Taunton
25th + 26th November - Location: Swindon

This year there are only 3 events to give everyone a bit more breathing room in the run up to Christmas!

All events will feature the core Wessex weapons - Sabre, Longsword, Women's Longsword, Sword and Buckler, Rapier and Dagger, and each event will also have a different women's competition as follows:
Winnersh: Sword and buckler.
Taunton: Sabre
Swindon: Rapier and dagger

Tickets for the first event will go on sale in August. Stay tuned for announcements about this years host clubs!
