Poppy’s Garden Services
A small family run business offering a range of gardening services and seasonal plants
It’s been all work and no play recently so I’ve taken a long weekend off 🙂
Have 3 gigs planned over 4 days including an overnight stay in Cardiff so I thought I’d treat myself to some colourful braids from the amazing Louise at Perfect Plaits. She really is the best at this and these should stay in for at least a week! Might even keep them in for work next week 😝
London bound at the moment with Colin and the kids to watch The Killers at the O2!!! Super excited and can’t wait!!
Have a fun weekend everyone
xx
p.s. painted my nails too - can you guess what colour?!
Happy Solstice everyone.
Enjoy the longest day of the year in the sunshine ☀️
Sorry I’ve been a bit quiet recently. It’s been a really busy month.
xx
I absolutely adore peonies. Roses may have my heart but peonies come a very close second.
These are all some of my own ones.
I’d love to see yours. Post a picture in the comments below.
xx
Let’s talk bedding plants…
I do love them but not in uniform rows.
Here are three different ways of including classic summer bedding plants in your garden that I’ve seen recently.
And all are perfect if you don’t have a large garden too.
xx
Hands up who remembers the rose garden I planted out last month?
Was sooo lovely to return to see most of them in bud or bloom. And the smell was just divine!!
The purple salvia and yellow alliums look great amongst the roses too.
xx
Morning all as promised here is a picture of my re-jigged shade border.
Lots of ferns, hydrangeas, foxgloves, grasses, heucheras, hosta and astilbes. Move lots around, thinned bits out and created gaps for new foxglove babies.
I want to add some white peonies in here too I think at some point…
xx
**** ALL GONE THANKYOU ****
FREE PLANTS!!
I have had a sort through and clear out of my shade border and have some plants going spare.
All good for shade - grasses, sedum, shrubs & bamboo.
Also some irises (purple)
They are outside my house 36 Stratfield Road in two trugs and a bag. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN CONTAINER AND DO NOT TAKE MINE 🙂
First come first served.
xx
Oops 😬
When a quick tidy through becomes a complete re-jig!!
I will have plants going begging which I will pop out the front later. First come first served :)
Pictures of finished border to follow :)
Thank you everyone - all the left overs from the sale are now spoken for.
I will have some bits available soon that I just need to label and list over the weekend.

First Poppy of summer! 😍
Today’s mood summed up 😕
Anyone else bored of this weather now? I am very much over being rained on and blown around.
Feels like Autumn and not late Spring!!
xx
And so the greenhouse moves to another growing phase… took me 3 hours to clean out and tidy up!!
Serves me right for letting it get into such a state (in my defence I have been a bit busy)
Got all my tomatoes in (7 varieties this year 🙈), Peppers and Aubergines and am attempting to grow a courgette and butternut squash cordon just for fun. Have courgette and patty pan in the veg patch too but I can never seem to get butternut squash to fruit outdoors.
Now. Let’s talk cucumbers! I planted soooo many seeds and have one teeny tiny plant to show. Many seeds didn’t germinate and then any plants just wilted (even two I bought from a garden centre!). Anyone else had better luck?!
I may have ordered some from Suttons seeds …
xx
Most of you will know that I love purple and always favour cool tones over hot colours in my own garden.
I am absolutely in love with this gorgeous purple rose and adore the way it sits with the alliums and cerinthe 😍
xx

Happy Bank Holiday everyone!
One more bit of garden spam I promise but just look at this gorgeous sight that greeted me at a customer’s house one day this month…
Whilst appearing carefully curated, most of this front garden is actually self sown (with a little helping hand to shake and scatter). Sometimes nature just knows what to do and gets on with it.
I love the clashing purple of the aquilegia with the deep reds of the peonies. And the foxgloves. Just wow 🤩.
Can’t wait to see the poppies doing their thing in this border next month.
xx
If you could touch a picture!!
Look at this beautiful velvety iris. This customer knows that I covet her gorgeous Iris.. and the iris must know too as it saved itself from blooming until the day of my visit!!
If it ever goes missing… she’ll know where to look 🤭🤣

Hello all,
Wanted to share this lawn improvement with you all…
This lawn has had two courses of w**d, feed and seed treatment - one in the Autumn and one in the Spring - and was also lightly scarified each time.
I think you’ll agree its looking pretty nice now :)
xx
Hands up who got involved with no mow May?
Here are just a handful of the ways we supported customer’s who wanted to try no mow!
To be fair… it’s not hard to leave your lawn alone when it’s a blooming wild meadow! But even if you just want to leave a few buttercups for the bees you can still take part :)
