Details for the new Sherfield Park Conservation groups meetings are as follows: initially they are being run by Basingstoke ranger services and Natural Basingstoke.

Sessions will be held monthly, starting on Sunday 8th September. I hope you can join us! We will meet by Sherfield Park Community Centre, RG27 0FP, at 10am and finish around midday. Gloves, tools, and tea/coffee will be provided, but please bring your own drinking water and wear sensible footwear (preferably wellies)!

This first session will focus on opening up the waterways by removing the willow saplings and reeds that are choking up the waterways by the culverts.

Sessions will run once a month, most likely going forward (after this first session) it will be the 4th Sunday of the month – unless that doesn’t work with the majority and then we can have a re-think! Our session in October will most likely be focussing on opening up the scrubby glades in the fenced off woodland, to improve the habitat for reptiles

If you’re still interested in joining this group, please do email Niamh at: [email protected]. We’d like to get as many people in the community involved as possible so please do spread the word and bring anyone along, no experience is necessary! Joining a volunteer conservation group is a great way to keep active, meet new people, and do something good for the local community and biodiversity!

So that the organisers have a rough idea of numbers we can expect on the day, could you please let charlie or Niamh know if you plan on coming along.

Exciting Opportunity for children : Design new signage for Sherfield Park's 20 is Plenty" campaign!

We are thrilled to announce a fantastic competition where children aged 11 and under can show their creativity and help make our community safer. We're launching a contest to design new signage for the 20 is plenty campaign and we need your brilliant ideas!

What is "20 is Plenty"?

"20 is Plenty" is a community initiative aimed at encouraging drivers to stick to 20mph whilst driving through Sherfield Park. Slower speeds mean safer roads for everyone, especially our children and pets.

All details are on the attached poster. Prizes to be won!

Judging and announcement

A panel of community members will judge the designs based on creativity, clarity of message, and overall impact. Winners will be announced via Social Media as soon after the closing date as possible.

We cant wait to see the amazing designs from our young artists. Lets work together to keep Sherfield Park safe and beautiful!

Happy designing!

Sherfield Park Parish Council remind all Residents and their families that in the hot and dry conditions, with the significant amount of cut wood and shredded wood in the link between the Larches and Petty's Copse and also within Petty's Copse, the potential risk of a fire is increased. Fires should not be lit in these areas and cigarettes should be disposed of thoughtfully and safely.

Many thanks for your consideration and help.

A33 ROADWORKS
The Parish Council has been aware of resident queries about the upcoming roadworks on the A33, between the Taylors Farm roundabout and the Sherfield-on-Loddon roundabout. We have now had confirmation from HCC Highways of the planned works.
• 22-25 April – the A33 will be closed overnight from 8.00pm until 6.00am for the removal of the cats eye studs. The road should be open during the day.
• 15 May – the A33 will be closed between 9.30am until 4.30pm for surface treatment works to be carried out. Once the work is complete, traffic will be allowed back on the road quite quickly at a reduced speed limit as there will be loose stone chippings and the surface will be slippery.
• 21 May - the A33 will be closed between 9.30am until 4.30pm to allow sealing of the new road surface.
HCC Highways will write to nearby residents nearer the time, and yellow warning signs will be erected a couple of weeks before the scheduled closures. All works are subject to weather conditions – if there is sustained heavy rain beforehand they will be rescheduled. More details are available on One.network, and if residents have any queries they should contact [email protected]

Please look out for letters, leaflets and emails which will be arriving with you very soon, giving you the details of your new collection day.

Garden waste collections are a subscription service which means that the number and location of customers fluctuates. To allow for this we review our rounds from time to time and make changes to ensure we are operating an efficient and reliable service.

The new collection schedule can be viewed on our website from Monday 26 February and for most people in Basingstoke the changes will take effect during week commencing Monday 4 March.

Exciting news! We're partnering with Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council to restore this ancient woodland, AND setting up a new conservation group in Sherfield Park. We know the sudden felling of the Larches was shocking to many, but it is part of a larger project to restore native species and native biodiversity to our woodlands. Hope to see you there!

*UPDATE* the second date has been changed, with new poster below reflecting this.

Launch of consultation on

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s Draft Local Plan Update (Regulation 18)

Take part from Monday 22 January to Monday 4 March

The consultation, which starts on Monday 22 January and runs for six week, is your chance to give your views on the draft plan that will guide development and planning decisions in the area until 2040.

This will be your chance to get involved in deciding the future of the borough, including where new homes and employment will be built and how we protect our environment.

It is important that the borough has a strong planning framework in place, shaped by the people who live and work in it, to protect the borough from unsuitable development and create the kind of place we want.

When the consultation starts on Monday the council will send an email with further information on how and where to get more information.

The consultation will primarily run through our online consultation portal, enabling everyone to get to the parts of the Plan that are the most important to them, and make comments quickly and easily.

A number of events have also been arranged and further details can be found below.

Please do not submit comments before the consultation begins on Monday 22 January as they can’t be taken into account.

Public events

The following drop-in events will be held during the consultation:

• Wednesday 31 January - Overton Community Centre, High Street, Overton (3.30pm to 8pm)

• Thursday 1 February - the Leivesley Room at Sherfield Park Community Centre, Sunwood Drive, Sherfield on Loddon (2pm to 8pm)

• Saturday 3 February - Porchester Square, Festival Place, Basingstoke town centre (10am to 5pm)

• Wednesday 7 February - St Mark’s Church, Homestead Road, Kempshott (2pm to 8pm)

• Monday 5 February - join an online event on the draft plan’s approach to climate change (6pm and 7pm)

A poster outlining the details of the consultation is attached below.

As we move in to the New Year, we have a new theme for this months photo competition : Abstract or Close up images - ideally taken around Sherfield Park.
The best image will be awarded a prize of £20, so please get out and lets see your lovely photos.

We are aware of the flooding on the pathway along the back of the estate ( Taylor’s farm drive). As well as the high levels of rainfall, it’s quite possible that the pipework in this area is blocked or collapsed.
When the levels drop so they can be cleared / checked safely the council will arrange for any necessary work to be undertaken.

31/12/2023

Wishing all our residents a Happy New Year. We’d like to thank you all for your help and support in making Sherfield Park a great place to live.
We have recently welcomed two new councillors to the team, which means as we go in to 2024 we are at full strength so If you have any ideas for further improvements / enhancements to our area please do get in touch.

24/12/2023

Sending everyone festive greetings. May you all stay healthy and safe.
