A hip to gable loft conversion is a popular type of loft conversion for properties with a hipped roof, which is a roof that slopes on all sides. In this type of conversion, the sloping side (hip) of the roof is replaced with a vertical wall (gable), extending the existing ridge line. This alteration maximizes the internal space within the loft, making it more usable for additional rooms, such as bedrooms, bathrooms, or office spaces.
Key Features of Hip to Gable Loft Conversion:
Increased Space: By converting the sloped roof into a vertical wall, you gain more headroom and floor space.
Improved Layout: This conversion allows for a better layout, often enabling the addition of multiple rooms or larger, more functional spaces.
Aesthetic Change: The external appearance of the house changes, creating a more symmetrical look, especially for semi-detached or end-of-terrace houses.
Roof Extension: The existing roof structure is extended, maintaining the overall architectural integrity of the house.
Potential for Additional Conversions: A hip to gable conversion can be combined with a rear dormer or other types of loft conversions to further increase space.
Benefits:
Enhanced Property Value: Adds significant value to the property by increasing the usable living space.
Better Utilization of Loft Space: Maximizes the potential of the loft area, making it suitable for various uses.
More Natural Light: Typically, larger windows or skylights can be installed, bringing in more natural light.
Ideal Candidates:
Semi-Detached Houses: Common for properties where one side of the roof is hipped.
End-of-Terrace Houses: Often used to create a larger loft space in end-of-terrace homes.
Detached Houses: Suitable for detached properties with a hipped roof on both sides, though it may involve a more extensive conversion.
This is a very broad question, but let us at least give you some key indictaors.
We have completed above garage “sturcture only” conversions for many customers in the past. The range for these can be from early £20k to mid £30k’s. These can be hugely advantagoues ways for people to achive their dream additon. They simply then complete the internals via friends or trades over a peirod of time.
Smaller 2/3 bed properties start from around £40k up to £55k. Larger or detached properties start anywhere from £60k going up to £85/90k. Of course these figures can easily exceed the £100k mark based on highly specfied internal elements such as bathrooms, fixtures or specialist windows or balconies. But this gives you a rough idea, ready for further discussion.
