Pictured here is Timothy Richards’ scaled reproduction of the Villa Cornaro, as designed by Italian Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio in 1552. Villa Cornaro inspired Villas all over the world including colonial America and England, as with much of Palladio’s work.
Villa Cornaro’s design is seen as one of the most notable illustrations of a Renaissance villa and has since become a focus of conservation as a World Heritage Site.

“While I cannot thank Palladio in person for his drawings, I can and must thank Timothy Richards, who has produced the beautiful plaster models which so wonderfully bring into the exhibition the actual buildings that Palladio and his American disciples built. Tim’s models combine exactitude with true artistry and help illustrate the American legacy superbly. ”
— Harry Rich, Head of the RIBA trust

“I commissioned Timothy to build this model of my former family home because if I didn’t, all knowledge and interest in it would have been lost forever. Tim’s attention to detail and accuracy was extraordinary. He even dug out 19th century insurance estimates, from an architectural archive, to repair the damage to the house after a major fire. This demonstrates his absolute commitment to getting it right.”
— Mr Wills-Sandford, May 2014 - Commissioner of the Castlerea House Model 2013

Pictured here is Timothy Richards’ scaled reproduction of Homewood House in Baltimore, MD. The Homewood Estate was gifted by the longest surviving signer of the Declaration of Independence, Charles Carroll, to his son in 1800. Today, the Homewood Museum is located on the John Hopkins University campus.
Homewood House was designed in a five-part plan and was inspired by the works of Andrea Palladio, much like many other buildings in early American architecture. Homewood is furnished today as it would have been in the 19th century, which highlights its position as a site of historical and architectural interest.

Pictured here is Timothy Richards’ scaled reproduction of Redwood Library in Newport, Rhode Island. Redwood Library was the very first purposely built library in the United States, as well as the oldest neo-Classical building to exist in the country. Founded in 1747, today it functions as a subscription library, museum, research centre and rare book repository. It was inspired by the work of Andrea Palladio and designed in the Georgian-Palladian style.
The main facade facing Bellevue avenue is based upon a plate in Edward Hoppus' Andrea Palladio's Architecture published in 1735. The oldest section, today called the Harrison Room, still houses the majority of the original books that were purchased as a collection in London.
Since those times, Redwood Library has expanded and developed significantly. The Library's modern collection now includes more than 200,000 volumes as well as a museum collection of art and artefacts. The building was designated a National Historical Landmark in 1960.

“As we prepared to launch our Forever LSU campaign, we knew we wanted a unique donor recognition piece that would reflect the ambitions of our first ever comprehensive campaign. Timothy fully immersed himself in the LSU culture and delivered handsomely on our wishes. Our LSU Arches have been enthusiastically received by donors. Adorned with images specific to our campus, the piece is not only handsome, but it tells our story as a university; it reflects our values and conveys the pride all Tigers have for their Alma Mater. We are proud of our relationship with Tim and grateful he took the time to learn about LSU. His conscientiousness is reflected in this wonderful work of art.”
- Jeffery L. McLain, CFRE, Vice President for Development, LSU Foundation

This grand house has played host to presidents, senators and diplomats, notably including Marquis de Lafayette and Martha Washington, the United States’ inaugural First Lady. Pictured here is Timothy Richards’ scaled reproduction of The First Monticello, as designed by Thomas Jefferson as a preliminary design for his home.
Jefferson’s passion for Palladian design as well as proper application of the Classical orders is demonstrated in his 1771 elevation drawing of the first version of the house, which began around 1772.
The two-tiered portico, superimposed orders, and hipped-roof wings with attic stories made the original Monticello a reduced version of Palladio’s Villa Cornaro. Jefferson’s enthusiasm for Classical details extended to his chimneys which are Classical pedestals. This first version, however, was never fully completed
Following his return from France in 1789, Jefferson transformed the unfinished house into the domed version we know today, a combination of Palladian and French Neoclassical influences.

Pictured here is Timothy Richards’ scaled reproduction of Thomas Jefferson’s Design for the President’s House. This model is hand-sculpted at our workshop in Bath in high quality English plaster, with additional detailing in brass and white metal.
Jefferson, heavily inspired by the work of Andrea Palladio and particularly his Villa Rotunda in Italy, submitted this design anonymously for consideration in 1792. This design went unbuilt, but the plans remain as a testament to the architectural work of Thomas Jefferson and what inspired him.

Pictured here is Timothy Richards’ scaled reproduction of the Virginia State Capitol. This model is hand-sculpted at our workshop in Bath in high quality English plaster, with additional detailing in white metal.
The Virginia State Capitol building was conceived of by Thomas Jefferson and Charles-Louis Clérisseau and based on the Maison Carrée, a remarkably well-preserved Roman temple in Nîmes, France. The building is also particularly notable for its use of Palladian architecture, as it became one of the first government buildings to take direct inspiration from a historical architectural style.

Pictured here is Timothy Richards’ scaled reproduction of the Supreme Court building in Washington DC. This model is hand-sculpted at our workshop in Bath in high quality English plaster, with additional detailing in white metal.
Designed by architect Cass Gilbert, great inspiration was taken from classical Roman temples in the construction of the Supreme Court building. The final result is a grand structure reached by an imposing flight of steps, while the featured portico of tall Corinthian columns completes the Supreme Court’s majestic entranceway.

Pictured here is Timothy Richards’ scaled reproduction of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC. 2022 marks the 100th anniversary of the dedication of the Lincoln Memorial, honouring the 16th president of the United States of America.
The structure itself was inspired by the Parthenon in Athens, Greece in its classical style and design. This makes for a fascinating blend of many influential eras of history. A hundred years on, the Lincoln Memorial has become iconic for both its architectural style and important place in American history.

Pictured here is Timothy Richards’ scaled reproduction of the White House entranceway in Washington DC. Standing as the residence of the serving American President for over two hundred years, the White House is undeniably a cultural icon and symbol of the American people.
The fine details on this model of the White House were captured from elevation plans and photographs taken by Timothy. White metal castings were used for the door handles, which were then hand painted in gold.

Pictured here is Timothy Richards’ scaled reproduction of the Royal Naval College in Greenwich, London. The College stands one of the most extensive complexes of Baroque buildings in Britain, as built primarily by Sir Christopher Wren and Nicholas Hawksmore based on earlier designs by John Webb. Over the centuries, the site has acted as a royal residence, hospital, college and, today, a cultural heritage site.
The work was commissioned by Queen Mary II in 1694 and completed in 1712. The construction was a fraught process, as Queen Mary demanded all previous work on the already standing Queen’s House be retained. Wren’s solution to this was to incorporate Webb’s earlier plans into the already existing structures, allowing him to complete the work as instructed. The result is a complex of buildings that combine a variety of architectural styles and have a unique character of their own, coloured by the clashing ideas during their construction.

Pictured here is Timothy Richards’ scaled reproduction of the Radcliffe Camera building in Oxford, which functions now as a building for the University of Oxford.
The Radcliffe Camera was designed by architect James Gibbs in the English Palladian style with baroque overtones to house the Radcliffe Science Library in 1748. It later became part of Oxford University and reading rooms for the nearby Bodleian Library, hence the name ‘camera’ translating in Latin to ‘room’.
The Bodleian Library commissioned the Timothy Richards model, which used copies of the original building plans. The Radcliffe Camera model is plated in Sterling Silver, completed with a base and hallmarked at the very end of the process.

Pictured here is Timothy Richards’ scaled reproduction of the St. Brides Church of Fleet Street in London, in its current form built in 1672.
Prior to the church’s current incarnation, two churches stood on the site, the earliest of which was of Roman origin. Following the destruction of these original buildings during the Great Fire of London in 1666, its replacement was designed by Sir Christopher Wren in his signature English baroque style. It is the second tallest of Wren’s churches after St. Paul’s Cathedral.
St. Brides Church has always held an association with journalism and newspapers due to its location on Fleet Street and its close proximity to the sites of the very first printing presses that were run in the 15th century. The model pictured here was commissioned by The Times newspaper and presented as a gift to Sir Edward Pickering, the well-respected Fleet Street editor.

Post was recognised as a master architect of the time, serving as President of the American Institute of Architects and being instrumental in the conception of the skyscraper.
