Rule 153 for people of bath today
Traffic-calming measures. On some roads there are features such as road humps, chicanes and narrowings which are intended to slow you down. When you approach these features reduce your speed. Allow cyclists and motorcyclists room to pass through them. Maintain a reduced speed along the whole of the stretch of road within the calming measures. Give way to oncoming road users if directed to do so by signs. You should not overtake other moving road users while in these areas.

Drink driving? The hangover's just as dangerous, says Bristol study
A hangover can be just as dangerous for driving as being drunk at the wheel, according to new research.
Scientists at universities in the UK and the Netherlands found that the effects of a night’s heavy drinking last longer than a measurable blood alcohol concentration and that hangover immunity is largely a myth.
In research conducted at the University of the West of England, participants who had been drinking the night before undertook a 20-minute simulation of driving in a urban and countryside areas.
The study found that reaction times were badly affected, as was the ability to maintain a steady speed and stay in the same road position.

FOG
Rule 235
When driving in fog you should
use your lights as required (see Rule 226)
keep a safe distance behind the vehicle in front. Rear lights can give a false sense of security
be able to pull up well within the distance you can see clearly. This is particularly important on motorways and dual carriageways, as vehicles are travelling faster
use your windscreen wipers and demisters
beware of other drivers not using headlights
not accelerate to get away from a vehicle which is too close behind you
check your mirrors before you slow down. Then use your brakes so that your brake lights warn drivers behind you that you are slowing down
stop in the correct position at a junction with limited visibility and listen for traffic. When you are sure it is safe to emerge, do so positively and do not hesitate in a position that puts you directly in the path of approaching vehicles.
Congratulations Pat Lim on your pass today.
