We believe that every cat and dog should have the opportunity to enjoy a healthy life and a happy home.
Earl Featherington has transformed from a shy guy to a curious cat whilst in our care. It's lovely to see how far he's come - he's even accepting some fuss from staff!
He's bound to continue to progress with his confidence in a new home. If you can offer Earl a quiet and calm environment, apply to adopt him on our website: https://www.bathcatsanddogshome.org.uk/adopt/earl-featherington-domestic-s-h-short-hair
Lula recently celebrated her 4th birthday– that’s about 30 in human years. Happy birthday, Lula!
Speaking of 30, Petplan Charitable Trust is also celebrating a milestone - its 30th anniversary! A big congratulations to the Trust, which has supported hundreds of projects dedicated to improving the health and welfare of the nation's animals.
At BCDH, we are proud to say that Petplan Charitable Trust has been a long-standing supporter of our work, making a significant difference to the animals in our care. This anniversary year, they generously awarded us a £10,000 grant towards the refurbishment of our vet suite. We're incredibly grateful for their continued support!

Karat has made himself at home with his new family. We wish him all the best settling in and exploring the great outdoors.
"Karat has settled in well, already having made several spots in the house his, including a favourite armchair! He still follows us around and loves company. You have to be careful not to trip over him on the stairs!
I think he's looking forward to going outside in a few weeks time (I'm not!), as he spends a lot of time sat or led by the patio doors looking outside."

Adopted numbers last week - 7 cats and 2 dogs were adopted, plus 5 lost pets reunited with their families.
Ariel, pictured here lounging in her pod, was adopted. She had been very loved, but sadly had to come to us because of severe allergies in her family. If you only have light allergies, we have some tips on coping with them in the home in our Pet Care Advice section.

Sienna has a real zest for life in her new home. She was adopted from Bath Cats and Dogs Home in May and her new owners got in touch with this lovely update on how she's settling in.
"Let me reassure you that she is an absolute delight! She has settled in remarkably and gets on so well with our Black Lab, Quinta, that you would think they have been together for ages. She is responding well to training and as is so very good at being recalled that I can reliably exercise her off the lead, with confidence that will be back with me as quickly as she can possibly run back. She is super sociable with other dogs, and people; yes, she may pull on the lead when she sees anyone, but is the perfect lady when off the lead. Oh, and she travels perfectly in either car although, once she accepted that cars were not evil, she could be so excited at the prospect of going somewhere would jump in before the door was properly open!"
Autumn is here, which means the perfect conditions for training runs for !

Shining a spotlight on Spot 🔦
Spot is a typical Collie, intelligent and a fast learner. He'll thrive in a home with owners who can keep up his training with extra fun activities. We don't know much about Spot's past so we're looking to rehome him with experienced dog owners who can help him build his confidence and socialisation skills.

Lunchtime reading: Jim's story.
A stunning and calm presence, we all fell for Jim as soon as we met him! He had his lower eyelids turning inward, and needed an operation to ease his pain.

🚙 URGENTLY NEEDED - Due to illness, we are in need of a van driver for our shop deliveries. Preferably you can give 3 or 4 hours on a Thursday, but we could arrange a different day.
Why not give it a go for a month? If you enjoy it we can extend this into a regular role! And if it wasn't for you, then you've helped us out of a pickle and that was great.
More details and to apply on our website https://www.bathcatsanddogshome.org.uk/volunteer
Last week's numbers - we took in 19 animals in need of shelter, rehomed 5 cats and 3 dogs and reunited 3 lost pets with their owners.
We love a transformation - here is Furby plus his intake photo (a snapshot we take when animals first come in). He was a stray cat covered in fleas and several ticks, underweight and with lots of old wounds. He was, as you might imagine, pretty scared so as well as veterinary care, he also had a behaviour and socialisation plan in place. And 3 months later, he is flirty, gorgeous and adopted!
Thank you to all of our adopters.
Happy National Dog Walker Appreciation Day to our brilliant volunteer dog walkers who turn up every week, come rain or shine, on weekdays, weekends, Bank Holidays and Christmas Day.
Whether you’re heading off on an hours long trek through the countryside or having some cuddles in a paddock, you are the highlight of our dogs' days, and we are so grateful to you for loving them as much as we do!
Basil's heart of gold shines through once he feels safe and loved, despite his initial shyness. He is truly a charming and gentle soul.
He's looking for a forever home now. Head to our website to find out more: https://www.bathcatsanddogshome.org.uk/adopt/basil-british
Hunter (was Grover) has been with his adopters for over six months now and he certainly seems to be winning everyone over with his charming ways. This is a lovely update from his new family.
"He still loves to climb and likes to sit in his cat tree and has an obsession for catching/eating bugs! Hunter is doing really well, he is a balance of independence and needy (obviously on his terms), he loves being outdoors but doesn’t like the rain so the winter will be an interesting time for him and us. Hunter doesn’t tend to go too far from our garden at the moment and often runs back when he hears our voice for a bit of play time with his cat toys.
I'm not sure what else to write but just to say we very much adore him and he seems to win over everyone he meets (even the dog lovers)!!"
🌧🐾 Rodger not caring about the rain - he brings his own sunshine 🌞
Why does sustainable shopping matter? When you buy pre-loved items you’re helping to extend the life of an item. This means fewer new clothes are needed, like those made through environmentally-damaging fast fashion.
Try your hand at sustainable shopping this by visiting one of our BCDH Shops.
Find our more about sustainable shopping:
Sustainable shopping Fast fashion is all about quick, cheap, and trendy clothing, but it comes with significant downsides. The rapid production of these clothes leads to large amounts of waste and environmental harm, like high water usage and pollution. Plus, fast fashion encourages a disposable mindset, where clothes a...
Looking for a dog who is just as at home playing and zooming around the garden as he is cuddling on the sofa? Look no further than John.
This Lurcher gives the best of both worlds. Every play session is joyful and he has endless fun with his soft toys but his absolute favourite thing to do is cuddling his human friends on the sofa.
We'd love to find this friendly boy a home soon. Please share his profile so he can find his forever home: https://www.bathcatsanddogshome.org.uk/adopt/john-bull-lurcher

🐶 From left to right is Cindy's journey from the centre into foster and into her adoptive home - what a journey it's been for her! You can see from the big smile on her face, what a difference foster made for her. It was an immediate improvement!
Cindy found kennel life tough as she missed the home comforts. We are so happy that we can offer this option for our dogs now for the interim on the journey to their permanent homes.
If you'd like to dog foster (cat fostering is currently full!), please apply via our website:

Numbers from last week - we have rehomed 7 cats and 8 dogs, and 4 stray pets were claimed.
The gorgeous Jim here was adopted - he came to us 5kg underweight and with a dicky belly, so we fed him several small meals a day of gastrointestinal food (known as GI food for short) - this is an easily-digestible food with plenty of nutrients, fibre and prebiotics. As you can imagine, we need a lot of this in stock, and even more for a big boy like Jim! He recovered really well, and is settling in well in his new home.
Thank you to all of our adopters!
