💫 Mothers of the bride need not fear!

I've lost count of the number of times I've been asked to cover up wrinkles or make my clients look 20yrs younger. Another favourite 'mum' saying is "nobody will be looking at me!". Well, on that last point, I beg to differ!

It's so common that mums don't know what to expect when getting their makeup (& hair) professionally done. So many ladies don't wear any cosmetics day to day & are scared of being made to look too 'dolled up'. If you follow my work you'll know that's just not my style so rest assured that won't be the case. You have to be realistic at the same time though - makeup is good, but it can't eradicate the signs of ageing completely. There are techniques I can use to create a more flattering result, but just try & embrace what you have & know you're beautiful ❤️

The gorgeous Raina did just that: she opened herself up to the process 100% & was overjoyed with the outcome. Such a beautiful lady, wouldn't you agree?

Not long after starting my business I realised I was having to (reluctantly) turn away more business than I could manage so I decided to bring a team of talented individuals together so I could not only pass work onto them, but have a space for us all to bounce ideas off each other and feel part of something. ✨ COVID BRIDE ✨

And by that I mean I had Covid when I did it! 😬 Luckily the lovely Alexandra was happy for me to still be part of her big day and I'm so grateful for that. I masked up (like the 'old' days) and set up in the garden, which was perfect.

Being self employed in the wedding industry means sick days can dramatically impact others, which makes it tricky at times, but also really goes to show what we're capable of when the only other option is to let people down (which I would never, ever do unless completely unavoidable). Of course, health should always come first, but my point is: I take the commitment to my clients so seriously only an extreme set of circumstances would prevent me being there on your big day. So, if you have me booked, or are considering booking me, you can rest easy! 💛

I've had so many lovely comments of support, which has been a (very nice) surprise as I didn't expect my words to command any response at all. I wasn't seeking validation, I was just being honest and transparent with my audience, but it's totally confirmed what I already knew: the wedding industry ROCKS! 🧡

“I’m seeing lots of posts at the moment, from other fabulous suppliers in the wedding industry, who have entered themselves for awards this year. Being 100% honest, I’ve got a bit of FOMO! With that in mind, you might be wondering why I haven’t followed suit;⁣

I was a Regional Finalist in 2020 with TWIA and I found it a wonderful experience. It gave me a sense of validation as I really love the way these awards are curated – they’re so fairly judged by many industry experts, and they’re highly revered among suppliers.

In preparation for the event, I got to speak to many of my previous clients (to request a cheeky vote or two), which was lovely, and it helped me to see how far I’d come in my business.

The excitement around the ceremony was really enjoyable too and despite not winning my category I still found great value in having participated.⁣

⁣There are many benefits to taking part however, for personal reasons, I just don’t feel in a position to enter right now. If you want to do it properly (and why wouldn’t you?) it takes time to complete a considered application that’s worthy of being taken seriously, then contact past brides to politely request that they submit a vote for you (and also follow up with reminders!).

The anticipation of whether you’re going to win and potentially opening yourself up to criticism are also feelings that I contend with in my head, which aren’t always that welcome so that part of the build-up does trigger the famous imposter syndrome somewhat!

Whenever I feel like that I tend to revisit the many heartfelt reviews I’ve received over the years from my wonderful clients, which shuts down that inner critic, but I genuinely don’t have the physical time or headspace for it all at the moment.⁣

I’m sure I’ll put myself out there again in the future but for now, I will watch from the wings and wish all my fellow wedding business owners the best of luck!”⁣

I love my job, but everybody needs a break so I'm going to do my best to have some proper down time until 29th August. I most likely won't be responding to messages until after that date (unless it's rains so heftily in Cornwall I find myself sitting in the tent with no alternative but to check my emails!) so bear with me as I catch up with things on my return.

Wishing my beautiful biggest sis & awesome brother in law a happy 'official' 3 year wedding anniversary.

It rained continually that day & due to Covid restrictions we were all outside for the remainder of the day (after the ceremony at ). Despite the weather it was completely & utterly beautiful in every way ❤️

By the way, you're not going mad if you noticed another anniversary post for these 2 in June - the greedy buggers had 2 weddings!

✨ MONDAY ✨

I've had a lot going on in recent months & I'll admit to struggling (emotionally & physically) at times. Day to day life is challenging.

However, I had the great pleasure of working with the most incredible team on a shoot yesterday and it's truly reinvigorated me. I'm not always best pleased with photos of myself, but there's something in this one, taken by the lovely , that makes me feel really happy.

I feel ready for the week ahead so thank you to everyone who made my Sunday so enjoyable & for putting the fire back in my belly 💛

That cool rain and breeze is a delight to what is a stick day. If any knows Prior Park you’ll know that view, looking down into gorgeous Bath City. You certainly get a breeze up on high too. Imagine having your reception right there too. I loved this table setup, fun and adored with sweet treats, cocktails, perfect just after you’ve got married!

When you look into the mirror on your wedding morning you want to see YOU! That may sound obvious, but you have to fundamentally look and feel like yourself - albeit a beautifully elevated version.

There's no point in having somebody create a full face of makeup and elaborate hairstyle on you if that's far removed from who you are day to day. You'll feel out of place, self-conscious and won't enjoy your special day to the max.

It's for these reasons a bridal trial is soooooo important. It gives us the luxury of time to iron out any kinks (because sometimes what you think you want and what you actually want are quite different) and it also gives us a chance to get to know each other better as well, which is pretty key when you're working so closely with somebody.

✨EXCITING NEWS! ✨

I'm delighted to announce that I've recently joined the delilah Cosmetics Pro MUA team!

I already use some of their products in my kit, but can't wait to familiarise myself with the entire range which is 100% vegan, cruelty-free and PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) approved. I'm going to be in cosmetics heaven!

I really enjoy finding out more about the people behind small businesses so thought some of you might like a bit of an insight into who I am. With that in mind here are some largely useless, but possibly enlightening, facts about me (some of which could potentially alter the way you feel about me!):

💫 I’ve been a vegetarian for about 27 years
💫 I'm a long-standing (original) Take That fan and slept on a cheap Lilo, in a tiny tent, outside a stadium in order to get to the front of the concert back in 2019! I haven’t ruled out doing it again, but less rain and higher temperatures would be welcome next time…
💫 I grew up owning horses and have fallen off more times than I can count. I realise that doesn’t say much for my riding skills, although in my defence some of our ponies were little b*st*rds! 😉
💫I used to regularly appear in BBCs Casualty as an extra (or background artist as they’re now called) and would have loved to have done acting professionally. got it bang on with his portrayal of that ‘world’!
💫 I'm going to be 47 on 12th February. Trying not to freak out too much.
💫 I can tap dance
💫 I wear my heart on my sleeve – what you see is very much what you get
💫 I spent a year travelling around the world in my 20s with my (now) husband
