CAULKING was the process of making a ship watertight. We learned that this heavy antique bronze pot was originally used to heat the tar (or pitch) which was later mixed with ropes to be stuffed in between planks on the ship. We had a lovely time exploring the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard last week and admired the Mary Rose and HMS Victory. HAPPINESS MATTERS. We love this review because it reminds us that when business owners love what they do, the clients feel it. We moved to Bath mid-life after a long business career and being in retail was our way to make friends in Bath. SOMEONE FOUND A TREASURE in our shop. This very large silver plate bowl made by Garrard & Co (appointed as the Crown jeweller from 1843-2007) met its newest custodian last week. It has caught so much attention in the past 2 weeks in the shop and we are so happy that it has found its new home.

WE ARE SO PROUD TO BE THE NEW CUSTODIAN OF THIS DISPLAY CASE. A few months ago, the son of a Bath-based antique dealer emailed us to help value the interiors of his late mother’s flat. We visited the home, admired her beautiful collection, and offered some advice about how to get the best value out of his mother’s furniture and silver. One of the pieces is a lovely small display cabinet, which we offered to buy to use in our shop if no one else wants it. To our pleasant surprise, he and his sister came to our shop last week and gave us her display case to thank us for our visit. They said she would have wanted it to go to a retailer who shared her values of kindness and service. Such a generous gesture and something we will always treasure. This piece holds a special meaning to us both.
