“There are beach loungers which bend really easily”
Yes. You’re absolutely right…the beach loungers are the problem.
Thoughts on this?
On today’s episode of myth busters.
“Yeah… I’ve got a slow metabolism”
A quote used by 100% of people who do not understand what metabolic rate is.
So without delving into the jargon-tastic science-y stuff let’s look at the logical, pragmatic side of the ol’ “slow metabolism patter.
Metabolic function can be adversely impacted by extreme dieting, including yo-yo dieting.
So when we have someone who’s working toward their “Ibiza beach bod” by starving themselves for 12 weeks for a couple photos (OMG BABES YOU LOOK AMAAAAAZING 😍🔥)… to then come back and devour everything in sight like an ocean beach loving Pac-man, problems may arise.
But…
Still ain’t enough to “shut down” your metabolism.
Think about when your metabolism was “high”…
When you were young(er) yeah?
When you used to walk everywhere because you didn’t drive? When you weren’t old enough to drink? When you used to still be involved in sports and activity? When you didn’t have access to any and all the processed junk food in the world, due to either money or parental constraints?
So, what’s changed?
Is it your metabolism, or is it the fact you sit on your hoop for 10 hours a day and drive your car 200m to go to the shop for sweeties and crisps for some Netflix’n ‘n’ Chillin’…n’?
Let’s face it, anyone who’s using the slow metabolism patter is most likely in a position where they’re unhappy with how they look. Yet, they would appear to happy enough to have an excuse for it, rather than embrace the remedy.
Here’s the practical side - if you were to eat and move in relative terms as to when you believe your metabolism was “high” (you thought you were slim), you would remain in the same relative shape to what you were back then.
If anything, as an adult it should be easier. Your body is bigger.
To move a bigger body requires more energy.
Energy in this case being calories.
If you move more, you burn more calories.
The matter then comes down to overeating.
But Jesus let’s not get into that right now.
Metabolic rate is primarily governed by external stimulus and rate of energy expenditure.
If you do next to nothing outside of scratch your arse in front of screens all day, it won’t work in your favour to keep you trim and in shape.
Nobody defies the laws of thermodynamics.
Move more and don’t eat like a dick. Enjoy the rewards.

This alert came through to my phone today.
At 8 o’clock on a Monday morning, that’s the hard hitting journalism we’re being hit with.
Now, if it’s a slow news day, cool, go ahead and pump out garbage. However, I do have one question;
Why doesn’t it say “men AND WOMEN with a paunch must act now” ?
Ah, that’s right, we can’t comment on women’s bodies because that’s FAT SHAMING.
But hey, f**k the guys, right?
People spend all this energy and time trying to fight for causes that they apparently care about, but then it brings about absolute hypocrisy and double standards.
So Apple News you f**king clowns, the next time you try to publish some nonsense about men’s mental health, or you feign concern over growing Su***de rates in men, how about you address the s**t you’re pumping out directly to people’s phones.
Because I guarantee there will be so many guys feel personally attacked by this and may already be feeling insecure about their physical appearance due to lockdown, but well done to you for putting extra pressure.
“It’s easy for you though... you’re already fit”
Is up there with being one of the dumbest f**king statements I’ve ever heard.
“You’re already fit”
How in Jesus’ holy name do you think they got fit, you absolute biscuit tin of a human 🤦🏻♂️
Every fit person, was at one point unfit.
Every muscular person, was at one point non muscular.
Every clever and knowledgeable person, was at one point ignorant.
But they chose to get their s**t together and do something about it.
Don’t belittle someone else’s previous successes because you don’t want to make the real effort required.
If someone is trying to encourage you, let them.
Maybe they’ll light the fire under you to get you on the way to where you want and need to be.
It’s Monday.
Again.
Get up, get s**t done and get after your goals.
I don’t normally share videos or other people’s content... buuuut in this case, I’ll make an exception.
Start your week with THIS energy and I guarantee you get somewhere.

I seen this on Instagram.
5 words that suck the soul out of me.
Awww that’s cool Davy, you can’t do a press up but yeah, let’s set up a f**king assault course with battle ropes and tractor tyres and sledgehammers all at maximum intensity.
OK, USA.
Or even worse... I seen a guy/girl on Instagram and I want a body like theirs.
So you want a body like someone who is paid to be nothing more than a good body.
You, Belinda, who sits at a desk all day, drinks wine every night and takes every opportunity to tell people how much you hate the gym... wants to look like one of them.
Cool, story, brosef.
So here we go;
1. If you need “inspiration” or “motivation”, then you are either content with how you look, or you’re lazy. That’s your two options.
Because if you weren’t happy, you’d do something about it. If you don’t do something about it, you’re lazy.
2. Using fitf**ks as your inspiration when you aren’t in the way of training, is irrelevant, redundant, unnecessary, stupid, ignorant (and a list of about a million more...)
Watching someone blasting out unrealistic workouts to show you how fantastic they are and how ripped they are does NOTHING FOR YOU.
Go out a walk and put the chocolate down.
If you need inspiration or motivation, take your clothes off and look in the mirror. That should be enough.
If you’re happy with what’s looking back, power to you.
If not, change it.
—————————
Also, choose wisely who you decide to waste your time following because remember that these gimps are making big dolla dolla bills y’all off the back of your attentions.
And it isn’t even the ones genuinely trying to help, educate or empower who are earning!

This “I’ve had a bad day” patter needs to stop.
There’s no such thing as a “bad day” when dieting, just bad decisions.
Stressed at work.
Someone died.
Something died (dog, cat, f*ckin goldfish)
Kids are doing your nut in.
Sabotaging your weight/fat loss goals is only gonna make your day worse.
You know why...? Because there’s always gonna be s**t happening and you need to stop relying on food as a coping mechanism. (Or even worse, using things as an excuse to be greedy)
The 5 minutes joy you experience eating s**te, then balanced against the hours of “I shouldn’t have had that”.
When most people say “I had a bad day...” it’s usually followed by one of;
I ate a bar of chocolate
I had a Chinese/chippy/Indian
I tucked into a bag of sweeties
Or some other nonsense.
Now, on the understanding that you can essentially eat ANYTHING so long as you adhere to a calorie deficit to lose weight, this is where we call bulls**t on the confessions.
“I had a bad day” translates into real person speak as, “I chucked everything in the f**k it bucket and ate like a greedy bastard for a day”.
If you’re offended by that, it’s probably because it’s you who does it.
The personal training confession of “I had a chocolate bar two weeks past Friday” is nonsense. Because when you step on the scales, instead of a number, it should just read “LIAR”.
So... point. Here it is.
All you dieters.
1. Stop talking pish about how much you’re eating. The scales and your measurements will tell the truth.
2. Eat WHATEVER YOU WANT, so long as you budget it to within a calorie allowance.
3. If you want to eat more, move more, it’ll afford you more calories to consume while still maintaining a deficit.
4. Stop, for f**ks sake, STOP, looking for people to tell you “it’s ok, just start again on Monday”, because that’s enabling destructive behaviour.
5. Decide if you actually want the body you say you do. Because if you did, you’d get on with it. If you have a day where you go over calories, you’ll rein in the calories in the following days and get on track.
Don’t be upset about the results you didn’t get because of the work you didn’t do.
Also, coaches will nod and smile and tell you it’s ok to constantly be getting further from your goals so long as you’re paying them.
Stop paying your coach and then tell them you’ve put on weight, even though you “haven’t been eating that much”... see how much they care then.
I get that people won’t like my approach and that’s fine, but if you want results, if you want honesty and you want real accountability, I’ll direct you to ANY of my clients and they can tell you how it made them feel.
You are not a snowflake. You are not unique. You do not defy the laws of thermodynamics.
Any questions, mail me and I’ll happily help you out.
What is “high risk”?
Right now we’re not allowed to do anything it seems, for fear of spreading the most deadly disease ever known to man.
Which killed an astronomical 9 people in Taiwan. (JHU CSSE COVID-19 Data)
It’s almost as if there are mitigating factors into why our numbers are so high...
So without even jumping into the government fudging of numbers in order to secure funding for their mates, let’s look at the lifestyle factors which are likely deeming our populous too high risk to return to normal.
The following is copied from healthexpress.co.uk;
“Obesity rates among adults in the UK have almost quadrupled in the last 25 years, and now around 1 in 4 fall into this category. What's more, over 60% of adults are classed as overweight or obese, leaving only 40% of women and 33% of UK men.
* 62% of the UK population is overweight.
* This equates to 58% of women and 68% of men.
* Nearly 25% of adults are classed as obese.
* 525,000 NHS admissions were obesity related in 2015/2016.
* The UK has the largest rates of obesity in Europe.
* Obesity is responsible for 30,000 deaths a year.
* Only 26% of adults ate the recommended 5-a-day in 2015.
* Stationary lifestyles are often to blame.”
We are a nation of fat people.
Face it.
We are the coronary heart disease capital of the world.
We, as a society, choose convenience over nourishment and prioritise materialism or the appearance of success over our health and wellness.
Anthea Turner was most recently called out for “fat and disability shaming” for sharing a meme (attached).
Yet the question would surely lay in;
How can someone let themselves get so f**king fat that they’re confined to a wheelchair.
Now before anyone gets sand in their hole about that statement, take TWO SECONDS to think about; unless the person has a genetic condition, or that the weight gain is an effect of medical treatment or birth defect/disability, there is absolutely NO REASON for that to happen to anyone.
Overweight and a bit of fluff to get rid of, cool, do yo’ thang.
Unable to perform basic human function because you couldn’t control yourself. Disgusting.
Yet, we lambast and vilify people for exercising in the current climate because they could be spreading it.
“Just because you don’t show symptoms doesn’t mean you’re not spreading it”.
True.
But those not showing (serious) symptoms most likely actually take care of their bodies rather than abuse them.
Being grossly overweight or overweight to the point of negative physiological impact (diabetes/high blood pressure etc) will be the catalyst for serious illness and I’m not just talking about COVID.
This isn’t a campaign to open gyms, I’ve all but accepted thats f**ked.
This is ideally to wake people up that our nationally established lifestyle of being a bunch of overweight, lazy, greedy bastards is probably why we’re still in this mess.
Being overweight and doing something to improve your health is one thing (to be applauded)
But being overweight and playing the victim card is most definitely another and nobody should indulge these people, because you’re only making it seem acceptable that they are killing themselves.
(NB I absolutely adhere to mask wearing guidelines where appropriate and I encourage everyone to do the same. I also believe it is of an essential nature to protect those in a vulnerable position, suffering medical conditions outside of their control)
There’s a fine line between discussing mental health and enabling behaviour with “mental health” as justification.
Nowadays there are so many amazing groups specifically set up in order to support people suffering with mental illness, or with issues negatively impacting their mental health.
But... Facebook isn’t one of them.
The hypocrisy within so many posts floating around Facebook and other socials is nothing short of deplorable.
That curly headed j**z rag “the Body Coach” selling a story to a newspaper about how he “was so depressed that he ate a dairy milk a day”...
National f**king newspaper.
Meanwhile Laura, 32, call centre worker killed herself because she couldn’t cope with the thoughts in her head.
But we celebrate good ol’ Joe’s openness about his “depression”.
Turning into sycophantic puppies celebrating his bravery, completely ignoring the fact he’s selling a f**king product.
(If your instant feeling is to say “he’s just jealous”... I’m only jealous of his full head of hair)
Exploitation of what is one of the biggest killers of young people in this current climate for financial gain.
Facedicks and Instaf**ks who have a level 2 in gym instruction are not valid outlets or sources of information when it comes to dealing with mental health.
Anecdotes of when people were sad are sadly (but realistically) used to gain followers and attention, which in turn rewards them with financial compensation.
Validity... nil points.
Neither is writing a long winded post that you’re counting the likes on to see if you cross a threshold into temporary happiness.
Also, anyone who’s done that, I can assure you, an amount of people read it, “like” or “love” it, then show it to the person next to them and say “listen to this pish”.
Much like people will with this post.
This isn’t to be cynical, negative, pessimistic or anything else.
It’s to tell some people the f**king truth.
If you want to talk, share or confide... a public social media platform probably isn’t the best place, because most people don’t actually care, despite what they “comment”.
There are amazing groups and amazing people out there in REAL LIFE who can support, advise and help.
If you’re struggling with mental health, there’s no one answer to “fix” you, but a platform which is built on narcissism, ego and exhibitionism will no doubt exacerbate your already stressful feelings.
Like it, lump it, feel offended by it, do what you want with it.
But for god’s sake, stop trivialising mental health by making it a f**king game of “likes”
If anyone feels the need to reach out for any reason, I’m happy to direct you to organisations or individuals I have personally dealt with and who know what they’re dealing with. Because I don’t.
You wouldn’t ask a painter and decorator to fit the clutch in your motor now would you?
✌🏼
It’s amazing how many people have “bad knees” when you ask them to squat.
From self diagnosis of arthritis, to an insistence that “that’s as far down as I can go”.
Most of the excuses that we hear are what I like to call “pish”.
So here’s the breakdown of reasons you can’t squat/press up or anything else that utilises joint flexion as an element of movement.
1. You’re not doing enough; meaning that you aren’t completing the full movement pattern on a regular enough basis for your body to become acclimatised and/or adapted, in order to become stronger through a full range.
Ways to remedy this;
Perform regressed versions of the exercises in order to achieve full range of motion in the joints and full depth of exercises.
Also... mobility.
I say it again. MOBILITY.
Do it. Stop your pish.
2. Not doing it properly; you’re performing exercises without competent technique, meaning your movement pathways are most likely off, creating an increase in force/pressure through joints, rather than relying on muscular contraction to accommodate the correct movement. For example, squatting being too “toes-y” creates pressure through the ankle and knee joints, purely because weight is poorly or incorrectly distributed.
Remedy - squatting ramp to encourage heel drive and sitting back.
3. You’re doing too much - basically you’re a mad bastard who think that jumping lunges are your ticket to a smaller waist. If you’re jumping about like a spacker 5 times a week and wondering why your knees/joints are sore then I have news for you.
Repeated high impact on joints (especially with a lack of muscular strength and tendon/ligament strength and stability) is not good.
In the same way that water is wet and the sky is blue. (These are other obvious things).
Joints, like your muscles need adequate recovery from exercise and repeated plyometric work is usually highly unnecessary and in most cases practiced by those who don’t actually need it.
Plyometric training should remain specific and relevant.
Jumping lunges are your ticket to injury town if you’re just looking to shed some timber.
