Last week our director spent four amazing days with a team of international judges, evaluating hundreds of wineries and visiting local producers during the Turkish Wine Judging, in partnership with the Tuğrul Şavkay Turkish Wines Competition. ⁠

Under the expert guidance of and , the judges observed and appreciated the rise in the quality of Turkish wines.

The first session of ‘The Georgian Palate’ was an enlightening masterclass led by . Held at , the tasting focused on creative food and wine pairings from the cradle of wine.

With a theme of ‘Embracing Amber,’ the session highlighted that amber wines can be a great choice for global cuisines. The wines were paired with a bespoke menu from , featuring Nordic and Mediterranean dishes alongside Indian, Japanese, Lebanese, and English cuisines.

Each pairing showcased the versatility of Georgian wines, demonstrating to guests that they deserve a place on all wine lists.

Led by and curated with top sommeliers, this series unveils the allure of Georgian wines in the UK market.

Our first session, “Embracing Amber,” on May 28th in London, features ten exquisite Qvevri Amber Wines paired with a bespoke menu from ramekinsandwine and Wine. Witness the magical fusion of Georgian wines and diverse culinary delights.

The old vine registry, established by Jancis Robinson MW and hosted by The Old Vine Conference, has been going from strength to strength. It recently earned the top honours at V d’Or 2024 award in Paris as the best Heritage Initiative.

Belinda Stone , the head of marketing for , graciously accepted the award on behalf of the esteemed OVR team, which includes , , , , and .

With meticulous curation, The Old Vine Registry has evolved into the world’s most comprehensive database, boasting of 3,100 vineyards spanning 35 countries as of January 2024. It is an invaluable resource for scholars, enthusiasts, and industry professionals. This achievement celebrates the Registry and underscores the global effort to preserve heritage vineyards.

The relaunched Turkish wine body is back with a bang at ProWein 2024, with a packed program of masterclasses on Sunday 10th and Monday 11th March.

will be present at Hall 13, Stand 16, with 9 producers pouring a thrilling range of wines from unique indigenous varieties, and familiar internationals with a Turkish accent.

On 10th March, hear it from and as they explain why Türkiye is emerging as one of the most interesting wine countries today.

During the event, there will also be maserclasses and interactive sessions with Isa Bal MS, Andreas Larsson, Chef Onur Elci, and Sabiha Apaydın Gönenli.
apaydin will host a pop-up tasting on 11th March to present seven women owned wineries from Georgia and Turkey.
