Help Us Launch Misfit Hobbies - A Tabletop Hobby Shop 06/02/2024

For anyone based in Northern Ireland (and even if you're not!) Samuel Steele has launched a Kickstarter for a great new hobby space/store in Coleraine! I just backed it and think you should too!πŸ˜‚

The "trying to improve by painting more minis" continues. I'm quite happy with this first little squad. I've managed to accrue a decent little army of space marines from a first strike starter set, paint intercessors set and a few issues of Imperium magazine. More than I even realised I had. Hopefully enough to get some games with. I'll keep posting progress pics for those who are interested! Anyway I'm learning plenty from what I'm doing right and even more from what I'm doing wrong!

Since rejoining the hobby world I've painted fewer than 10 models. Terrain always interested me more and I was better at it. The problem is when you don't do something you don't get any better at it. I've determined to get better at painting because I want too enjoy painting models. I have loads to paint and I have made a start. YouTube videos from and and accounts on here like are major inspiration and have been loads of help. Hopefully I can do a before and after in a couple of years and the improvement will be noticeable! πŸ˜‚

Valves and ribbed cables for dirt cheap! Just wanted to share a bit of a recommendation from my own experiences. Lego steering wheels from ebay (Β£2.99 for 20) and curtain wires (Β£1.99 for 2.5m) The steering wheels are a great scale for pipe or tank valves and the curtain wire - basically a long spring - scales almost exactly to official GW ribbed cables. I put a length of wire inside to allow it to be bent to shape. Curtain wire is also available in amazon.

Painting has begun! Decided I wanted to keep a bit of colour in my hive. I usually stick with black but I thought some bright colours heavily muted with an oil wash would look pretty good! Still loads to add. Stencils, decals, osl etc. But a good start!

It's hard to beat that initial prime! One of my favourite things to do is try and find cool little corners of the terrain to take photos from. Creating little vignettes. However the downside of that is discovering the priming that you thought had been so successful the night before is revealed to be not so complete!

"Hanging around the underhive" - Really love this guy. Made out of the skull from a set of halloween lights and assorted broken toys etc. A buddy for the big servo skull! I'm so nearly ready for priming it's excruciating but I keep thinking of things to add!πŸ˜‚

This guy is going to be "hanging around" somewhere in my hive board. I'm pretty pleased with how he turned out! He'll compliment the big servo skull well! Mini which was within arms reach for scale πŸ˜‚

The hive is coming together! Not sure how many eyes this will get on it on a lovely sunny Sunday but I took these last night as I'm really enjoying where this table is going! I like the thought of layers built on top of layers of, sometimes complimentary and sometimes contradictory, building styles and materials in the hive in my mind. So that's kind of what I'm aiming for with this table. Lots more detail and structures to come!

I have really rediscovered my hobby mojo recently and I'm starting to get very excited about the direction this necromunda/skirmish table is going. I'm finally using up loads of bits I've been hoarding. It's a 3x3 ft board and I'll be doing a couple of other 3x3 to combine if I want. Still loads of stuff to add!

I've long wondered about using a screen (TV/computer monitor) as a background for mini shots. So I thought I'd throw something together quickly as a proof of concept. Sure the background is a bit bright compared to the practical stuff but I think with some tinkering, the right lighting etc this could work! πŸ˜‚

Two more painted up! I'm sorry I haven't been painting orks (or anything really) for years! Having loads of fun! πŸ˜‚

New Year, new commitment to hobby! So my fantastic wife bought me a box of for Christmas. Truth is I have always stuck in my comfort zone of terrain and I'm a very inexperienced mini painter. I want to change that. These are the 5th,6th and 7th models I've actually painted since I my 20 year hiatus and even as a kid I never really painted many minis. I'm happy with how these turned out and I tried to use a few techniques I've only seen but never used. So I think this is a good start. There are 8 more to paint and a massive pile of shame to get through. So.... Hopefully this is the start of many more mini posts to come!

The general look of The Haarkrow Engstrom Mining Cartel is starting to take shape! A couple of rough WIPS anyway! Jeremias Engstrom is getting ready to lead his Cartel to glory! Go see collaborative setting for more detail!

is creating something very cool with - a collaborative setting within the 40k universe. His aim is to create a setting with a strong INQ28 aesthetic to enable people to write their own fluff, create models and play games within a shared universe that could exist within the 40k universe.
The setting is themed around the aftermath of an imperial crusade, exploring what happens after…
There is so much cool chat on the discord already! Get in touch with him if it's of interest!

Continuing my efforts to "hobby" as inexpensively as possible (πŸ˜‚) I picked up the first issue of magazine. I mean....Β£2.99 for the and is decent. And the and sets in the upcoming issues look even better. Even at the slightly increased price. I doubt I'd have ever collected any Necrons but it'd be nice to have a handful of models!

A few more shots of the big WIP terrain piece. I'm so unreasonably happy about the elevator/lift from the yellow crane that I had to do a better close up. There isn't much to it but discovering those 2 little leftover mdf bits made a perfect door made me really happy! πŸ˜‚

Photos from Revenant Workshop's post 25/08/2021

The big Necromunda/industrial terrain piece isn't getting any smaller but it's definitely getting a bit more ! After holidays, jobs around the house (not too mention reorganising the workshop) etc I think I'm finally in a place where I can be a bit more productive... So expect more updates!

Photos from Revenant Workshop's post 01/07/2021

Starting to get a bit more detail on the big / terrain piece. What you can see here is effectively the bottom layer. There's gonna be a whole other set of structures including Hab blocks above this! Still loads more detail to add but I'm really enjoying this piece..... When I get the time!πŸ˜‚

Massive new / project WIP! For scale spot the enforcer in the foreground! ....So about a month ago I came on here and apologised for an extended absence. Since then I haven't posted as much as I'd have liked and I've had a bit of an epiphany. Trying to build stuff AND video all of it for YouTube is tough. Massive respect for those who do it but it's ended up giving me a bit of build paralysis and I've decided to just go back to building for my own enjoyment...... For now. I'll still do some videos but my priority is enjoying my hobby! I'll be posting loads more WIP of this massive build which I'm enjoying so much!

Necromunda Hive War Unboxing: A Necromunda Noob Unboxing the New Starter Box 17/05/2021

Despite having made loads of Necromunda/Warhammer 40k/industrial terrain this last year I have a terrible admission to make.... I've never played a game of Necromunda. Not the original. Not the new version. So the release of the new starter box felt like the perfect opportunity to remedy that! Let's unbox!
