Gratitude to Lydia Bach, The originator of the Lotte Berk Method (U.S.A.) for her input into my doctoral thesis, training, continued support and mentorship.
All American Barre programs are seeded in Lydia's founding of the Lotte Berk Method (1971). Now in her eighties, Lydia is strong, vibrant, active and continues to innovate, while weaving into her legacy modern advances in movement+music and the positive effects participation in Barre programs offers to humanity. Interview with Esther Fairfax, Lotte Berk's daughter, Part 2

In Fairfax’s 2010 book, My Improper Mother and Me, there is a gap in Lotte Berk’s history that comes at a pivotal time in the inception of her programme. Although the literature references a car accident as being the catalyst for the development of her programme for the purpose of rehabilitating her injuries, in reality, Berk was recovering from the breakup of an intense love relationship as well as a morphine addiction. This point and other details of Berk’s backstory were clarified during the researcher’s video-recorded interview with Esther Fairfax, Lotte Berk’s daughter.
