It's a sad time for true dog lovers and although I've shed my tears thinking of the poor souls no longer with us due to this new legislation all over the UK we must focus on the dogs we can save.

From different muzzle types, to fitting, to how to condition your dog to get used to the muzzle and how we stick to our motto that EVERY DOG SHOULD BE HAPPY, HEALTHY AND SAFE, regardless of whether or not they wear a muzzle all dogs deserve this and we're here to help!

**TRAINING TIP TUESDAY**

The main way we can increase our dogs food drive is handfeeding, if your dog has to work for every bit of food its getting, food becomes more interesting and fun as you can do scent games, obedience drills and more using said food.

If you make food fun and something they have to work for, you will see way more of a food drive.

Did you know that you can actually increase your dogs food drive?

Soo many people tell me their dog isnt interested in food or treats and although this may be the case in certain circumstances, there are always ways to improve food drive!

**TRAINING TIP TUESDAY**

One thing we've been working on with my own dog Bailey is her car training, having being owned by me for 9 years (shhhh she's not old!) and myself never being a driver, the car was something she had not really experienced

To start car training your dog, start working on creating a postivie association with the car, lots of food, lots of encouragement and relying on your dog understanding certain commands they already understand just simply getting in and out of the car to begin with.

Dont overload your dog and go on a 6 hour journey and it all goes wrong because you did too much too soon, slow and steady is always key!

Is there anywhere you feel like you cant take your dog?

Can you take them somewhere in the car without them getting stressed?

Can you take them to the park without them reacting to other dogs?

Can you take them to a dog friendly establishment without them getting overwhelmed?

**TRAINING TIP TUESDAY**

One thing we've been working on with this wee man is his threshold training, Fionn used to bolt out an open door at home and have his owners chasing him round the estate in a panic.

Threshold training is a lifesaving thing you can teach your dog, the first step in this process is taking no chances in the first place while you teach the dog the behaviour you would like to see

You can do this by crate training your dog, using baby gates and keeping your dog on a lead around the house. Yes, this is effort but would you not rather put in some more effort temporarily or chase your dog round the street and maybe see them get hurt one day?

If there was one thing you would want to improve about your dogs diet, what would it be?

**TRAINING TIP TUESDAY**

Setting good foundations with your dog and being clear and consistent with what you expect your dog to do, is going to start creating "default behaviours"

"Default behaviours" are things your dog will automatically resort in certain circumstances, you may see this a lot where someones dog knows to sit before they are fed because this was trained consistently and now the dog sits without the owner ever asking.

You may also see this that when a dog sees anothoer dog, the get excited and want to say hello, jump up, bark, etc as this has become their default behaviour through consistent poor socialisation and training

Did you know a dogs nose print is just as unique as a persons fingerprint?

Another thing thats unique about dogs is that no 2 dogs are the same, they can have the same genetics and be from the same litter and have the same start in life but each dog is a complete individual.

I often see people who have gotten two pups from the same litter struggling with certain aspects of training as they cant get both dogs to do xyz at the same time, this is usually down to the fact that they need to find out what works for each pup individually and train each pup individually first before doing it with both dogs together!

Folks I am currently running on a 5-6 week waiting list for dog walking, dog sitting, assessment sessions, house visits and 1-1 training.

Please remember I am only one person and between all the commitments above and managing orders of food and natural treats I will always do my best to get through everyone!!

Did you know dogs can learn hundreds of words and gestures?

Some dogs respond better to hand signals, some respond better to words, some respond better to clicks or whistles

This is why there are soo many different training tools out there, find the tool that works for your individual dog, one they respond to and one they're comfortable with and helps to achieve what you need them to do.

Did you know our dsogs noses are more than 40 times more powerful than ours?

This is why we often see dogs ignoring their owners on walks, pulling this way and that way staying nose to the floor often choking on themselves on the lead.

We need to take advantage of thier powerful noses and every dog is allowed to sniff things, but first the dog needs to have some boundaries that pulling on the lead and acting as if you don't exist is a no no.

A walk is meant to be about YOU + DOG not DOG + YOU

Simple give and take and teamwork is all you should be looking for, if your dog is walking nicely and is engaging with you then they should be allowed to sniff as much as they like and not dragged away.

This is carried out by an experienced, fully qualified canine nutritionist who has studied with a leading educational programme.

This service takes place via corresponding emails over 6 weeks.

We have found it's more beneficial for both parties to have an ongoing correspondence over 6 weeks via email for a one off fee of £14.99 than our previous Zoom Calls which has limited time and weeks long waiting lists.

This means we are only an email away (emails are checked and responded to 6 days/week) if your dog has experienced a further problem, their diet needs something added or a measurement of something changed, they've been prescribed medication or received a diagnosis by their vet that has changed things, we can address it asap.

Once payment is taken the 6 weeks begins from that date, we are aware the service states a 5 minute duration but this is only so that we can keep track of who begin their 6 weeks on what date. You will get your full 6 weeks, this will be stated at checkout and you will be informed of when your 6 weeks ends.

You will also receive an initial consultation form, this is for us to gather as much information about your dog as we can. This is what we base our diet plan and advice on. If you cannot answer everything straight away you can add as we go and ask as many questions as you like if you need to.

Does your dog know a solid place command?

**TRAINING TIP TUESDAY**

This is for all of those who have a reactive dog!

Once your dog has reacted and is barking or lunging etc, it's already too late to implement a command like "leave it", use a lead correction, get food out infront of its face etc etc.

Giving a "leave it" command is great but timing is crucial, we ideally want to give the dog this command when we see the dog trigger stacking and then keep it moving.

Giving a lead correction or even trying to just drag your dog away is also too little too late, we should be again addressing the problem when the dog is trigger stacking not when it's too late. Why are we punishing our dog and acting like our dog is the problem when we were at fault?

Bribing with food infront of their face when they're in a highly stressed state of mind is completely useless, the dog is not able to listen to you and the reward you have will not matter in this scenario for most dogs as the reaction will always take priority.

All dogs are different and some respond better to certain things, you also need to learn your individual dogs trigger stacking signs in order to be able to read a situation and know how to handle it correctly! Thats where I come in.

**TRAINING TIP TUESDAY**

When you are crate training, one of the most important things to note is the size and placement of the crate is very important.

If your dog has a crate that is too small, they feel very uncomfortable as we would as adults sleeping on a small childs bed. If the crate is too big they do not feel cosy and nested enough and this can make progress go a lot slower.

Where you put the crate in the house is also extremely important, the dog needs somewhere thats a perfect balance between too busy and crowded (leading to frustration of being left out and inability to get any peace and quiet) and being peaceful and quiet enough (leading to stress and fear of abandonment because everyone is gone). Getting this right in the early stages of crate training is crucial as once the dog has a negative association to their crate, a lot more time and effort needs to be put into training that issue.

What things can crate training be helpful for?

Apologies for the lack of activity folks, my pc had an absolute meltdown and was unusable for about a month!

Unfortunately what also happened was the SSD drive was completely fried and i lost thousands of hours of work content etc that was not backed up onto anything so in many ways I will be starting a-new!
