**MUZZLE TYPES AND FITTING**
Part of the XL Bully Legislation states that they must be muzzled and on a lead in public spaces.
Some owners feel overwhelmed with not knowing what muzzle is a good choice for their XL Bully, how to fit it properly and how to introduce it to their dog if they've never worn one before or how to fix the issue if their dog hates it.
A quick explanation of different muzzle types, uses and places to buy them as well as step by step instructions on how to properly measure so your dog is comfortable, safe and you're following these new restrictions.
You can also get training/conditioning muzzles
To purchase a JAFCO Muzzle you can buy from these sites (Please note delivery takes a while) -

**XL BULLY LEGISLATION BREAKDOWN**
From today July 5th 2024, if you own an XL Bully you must;
- Not breed, sell, rehome, exchange, gift or abandon an XL Bully
- Muzzle your XL Bully and keep them on a lead in public places
- Keep them in secure conditions to prevent escaping and roaming
- Have Third Party Liability Insurance for your XL Bully
- Neuter/Spay your XL Bully
Although Certificates of Exemption cannot yet be apllied for (apparently we will get more details over the next few weeks) you MUST have a certificate by December 31st 2024
From January 1st 2025 it will be illegal to own an XL Bully without a Certificate of Exemption.
We are told if an owner does not have a certificate by January 1st 2025 or if an owner no longer wishes to keep their XL Bully, arrangements for surrender will take place BUT keep in mind rescues and charities are no longer able to accept XL Bullys from today, July 5th 2024.
This means anyone who "surrenders" their XL Bully or has their XL Bully seized due to failure to provide an Exemption Certificate, will result in said dog being euthanized.
THE GOVERMENT ARE PUTTING FANCY WORDS ON KILLING ANIMALS, LETS NOT HELP THEM DO IT BY MAKING MISTAKES!
***MUZZLE TRAINING***
Something all dogs can benefit from, yet life saving for XL bullys right now.
It's a sad time for true dog lovers and although I've shed my tears thinking of the poor souls no longer with us due to this new legislation all over the UK we must focus on the dogs we can save.
All muzzle training which is usually a paid membership exclusive will be on the page over the next while completely FREE
From different muzzle types, to fitting, to how to condition your dog to get used to the muzzle and how we stick to our motto that EVERY DOG SHOULD BE HAPPY, HEALTHY AND SAFE, regardless of whether or not they wear a muzzle all dogs deserve this and we're here to help!
1-1 training sessions etc can be just for muzzle training if needs be.
Let's save our dogs folks!
**TRAINING TIP TUESDAY**
The main way we can increase our dogs food drive is handfeeding, if your dog has to work for every bit of food its getting, food becomes more interesting and fun as you can do scent games, obedience drills and more using said food.
If you make food fun and something they have to work for, you will see way more of a food drive.
**QUESTION OF THE DAY**
Did you know that you can actually increase your dogs food drive?
Soo many people tell me their dog isnt interested in food or treats and although this may be the case in certain circumstances, there are always ways to improve food drive!
**TRAINING TIP TUESDAY**
One thing we've been working on with my own dog Bailey is her car training, having being owned by me for 9 years (shhhh she's not old!) and myself never being a driver, the car was something she had not really experienced
To start car training your dog, start working on creating a postivie association with the car, lots of food, lots of encouragement and relying on your dog understanding certain commands they already understand just simply getting in and out of the car to begin with.
Dont overload your dog and go on a 6 hour journey and it all goes wrong because you did too much too soon, slow and steady is always key!
**QUESTION OF THE DAY**
Is there anywhere you feel like you cant take your dog?
Can you take them somewhere in the car without them getting stressed?
Can you take them to the park without them reacting to other dogs?
Can you take them to a dog friendly establishment without them getting overwhelmed?
**TRAINING TIP TUESDAY**
One thing we've been working on with this wee man is his threshold training, Fionn used to bolt out an open door at home and have his owners chasing him round the estate in a panic.
Threshold training is a lifesaving thing you can teach your dog, the first step in this process is taking no chances in the first place while you teach the dog the behaviour you would like to see
You can do this by crate training your dog, using baby gates and keeping your dog on a lead around the house. Yes, this is effort but would you not rather put in some more effort temporarily or chase your dog round the street and maybe see them get hurt one day?
**QUESTION OF THE DAY**
If there was one thing you would want to improve about your dogs diet, what would it be?
Something to help their skin?
Their poops?
Their gas?
Their itchiness?
A better immune system?
Healthier treats?
**TRAINING TIP TUESDAY**
Setting good foundations with your dog and being clear and consistent with what you expect your dog to do, is going to start creating "default behaviours"
"Default behaviours" are things your dog will automatically resort in certain circumstances, you may see this a lot where someones dog knows to sit before they are fed because this was trained consistently and now the dog sits without the owner ever asking.
You may also see this that when a dog sees anothoer dog, the get excited and want to say hello, jump up, bark, etc as this has become their default behaviour through consistent poor socialisation and training
**QUESTION OF THE DAY**
What do you feel is currently missing from the dog industry?
Whether its diet and health related, behaviour and training related, community related etc.
Wee man settling in brilliantly, handfeeding like a pro while Bailey is patiently waiting her turn
This lil chicken nugget will be with us for the next 2 weeks, how cute is he though?
**How not to deal with a dog**
One of the main reasons if you are ever dog sitting or dog walking YOU MEET THE DOG AND OWNER FIRST AND MAKE SURE YOU KNOW HOW TO HANDLE A DOG!
Never, ever take on a job when you've not met the dog
If someone i lived with said nothing to me and a randomer walked in my home you best believe i'm swinging!
How this should be handled and what went wrong:
1) Meet and greet - Make sure the dog is comfortable with you when the owner is present so the dog knows who you are and that you arent a threat (they may or may not have done this but given the "dog sitters" approach this entire video, i doubt they did but thats me assuming)
2) Having a dog loose in the garden as you arrive (im assuming here) with no lead already on the dog, nor a slip lead in hand to prepare yourself for needing to take control if the dog tries to bite is a no no. This is why I always advocate for a dog to be crate trained, cuts that problem right out, a dog can be placed on a lead while in the crate so you have immediate control when its out of the crate and the dog should not be interacted with at all NO TOUCH NO TALK NO EYE CONTACT until it is calm, with the dog loose in the garden bare minimum the same no touch no talk no eye contact rule until calm should be used and a slip lead on hand incase it goes left
3) Use food to create a positive association to your presence, do not add to the problem by trying to semi open the door when the dog is not calm and say you might need to make a run for it as this further increases the bite risk. Saying the dog hates that noise indicates theyve either been told this or they have met the dog before, if she had met the dog before, clearly she didnt go about that the right way either nor created a postivie relationship as the dog was not happy to see her one bit!
4) When the dog enters, its body language is extrememly tense, stick to the NO TOUCH NO TALK NO EYE CONTACT rule not "go get your food" in a baby voice, this made the dog respond with a "back off" warning of barking and showing teeth. This would not have happened if she had previously dealt with the above appropriately. In this instance if the dog wanted to bite, it wouldve, this was designed to get her to leave it alone and go away, not injure or cause harm.
5) Taking a step backwards in this instance is again, telling the dog its behaviour has indeed scared you and that its working, this is not what we want to do as once she did that, the dog moved into her personal space, again increasing the likelihood of her being bitten. Instead NEVER BACK DOWN BUT NEVER ESCALATE is the approach thats needed, personally i wouldnt be in that situation in the first place but if push came to shove, you hold firm, use a slip lead to get the dog under control from a slight distance and you wait until it calms down, going back to creating a positive association with yourself using food.
6) Another massive no no in this situation is to scream or panic, the dog was extremely on edge and uncomfortable so why again add to the problem by screaming sit? Also note, the dog does not sit, it hits the deck absolutely terrified, tail completely under its body and retreats back to its food, and she retreats further and the video ends.
One thing to note is that she does mention she might have to run for the hills when the dog gets its food, this dog could very well be struggling with resource guarding over food, if thats the case things like this need to be discussed at the meet and greet and the owners should be working on this with a behaviourist and not putting a dog sitter at risk who clearly hasnt a clue how to handle the situation. Even at that, the owners may not have been in a position to afford a behaviourist or do not understand the severity of the issue so the dog sitter would not be at fault, yet said dog sitter still responded completely incorrectly.
There are soo many variables and possibilities with this video but my final point rests:
DO NOT ALLOW SOMEONE TO BE ALONE WITH YOUR DOG IF YOUR DOG HAS BEHAVIOURAL ISSUES THAT CAN BE DANGEROUS OR THEY DO NOT LIKE SAID PERSON
DO NOT HIRE SOMEONE TO BE UNATTENDED WITH YOUR DOG WHEN THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO READ A DOGS BODY LANGUAGE/HANDLE A DOG/RESPOND APPROPRIATELY IN CERTAIN SITUATIONS
DO NOT TAKE ON A DOG SITTING JOB/DOG BEHAVIOUR CASE IF YOU HAVE NOT MET THE DOG TO SEE WHAT YOURE DEALING WITH/DO NOT HAVE AN AT LEAST NEUTRAL RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM AND GENERALLY HAVENT A CLUE WHAT YOURE DOING
Rant. Over.
**QUESTION OF THE DAY**
Did you know a dogs nose print is just as unique as a persons fingerprint?
Another thing thats unique about dogs is that no 2 dogs are the same, they can have the same genetics and be from the same litter and have the same start in life but each dog is a complete individual.
I often see people who have gotten two pups from the same litter struggling with certain aspects of training as they cant get both dogs to do xyz at the same time, this is usually down to the fact that they need to find out what works for each pup individually and train each pup individually first before doing it with both dogs together!
Folks I am currently running on a 5-6 week waiting list for dog walking, dog sitting, assessment sessions, house visits and 1-1 training.
Please remember I am only one person and between all the commitments above and managing orders of food and natural treats I will always do my best to get through everyone!!
**QUESTION OF THE DAY**
Did you know dogs can learn hundreds of words and gestures?
Some dogs respond better to hand signals, some respond better to words, some respond better to clicks or whistles
This is why there are soo many different training tools out there, find the tool that works for your individual dog, one they respond to and one they're comfortable with and helps to achieve what you need them to do.
All emails, facebook messages and phone calls will be sorted tomorrow folks!
**QUESTION OF THE DAY**
Did you know our dsogs noses are more than 40 times more powerful than ours?
This is why we often see dogs ignoring their owners on walks, pulling this way and that way staying nose to the floor often choking on themselves on the lead.
We need to take advantage of thier powerful noses and every dog is allowed to sniff things, but first the dog needs to have some boundaries that pulling on the lead and acting as if you don't exist is a no no.
A walk is meant to be about YOU + DOG not DOG + YOU
Simple give and take and teamwork is all you should be looking for, if your dog is walking nicely and is engaging with you then they should be allowed to sniff as much as they like and not dragged away.

If your dog is unwell, suffers from allergies, is underweight/overweight, has liver and kidney problems, or a fussy eater, we can provide you with information on how to overcome this and what better options there might be out there for your dog. This is carried out by an experienced, fully qualified canine nutritionist who has studied with a leading educational programme.
This service takes place via corresponding emails over 6 weeks.
We have found it's more beneficial for both parties to have an ongoing correspondence over 6 weeks via email for a one off fee of £14.99 than our previous Zoom Calls which has limited time and weeks long waiting lists.
This means we are only an email away (emails are checked and responded to 6 days/week) if your dog has experienced a further problem, their diet needs something added or a measurement of something changed, they've been prescribed medication or received a diagnosis by their vet that has changed things, we can address it asap.
Once payment is taken the 6 weeks begins from that date, we are aware the service states a 5 minute duration but this is only so that we can keep track of who begin their 6 weeks on what date. You will get your full 6 weeks, this will be stated at checkout and you will be informed of when your 6 weeks ends.
You will also receive an initial consultation form, this is for us to gather as much information about your dog as we can. This is what we base our diet plan and advice on. If you cannot answer everything straight away you can add as we go and ask as many questions as you like if you need to.
Gentle reminder folks!!
Big thank you to ZERO BARKS GIVEN for the rebranding of our logos in dedication to my big son Ragnar who was the driving force of the business and the reason i'm here today
Now everytime CNNI has thier name attached to something, it will be well and truly in his memory
**QUESTION OF THE DAY**
Does your dog know a solid place command?
**TRAINING TIP TUESDAY**
This is for all of those who have a reactive dog!
Once your dog has reacted and is barking or lunging etc, it's already too late to implement a command like "leave it", use a lead correction, get food out infront of its face etc etc.
Giving a "leave it" command is great but timing is crucial, we ideally want to give the dog this command when we see the dog trigger stacking and then keep it moving.
Giving a lead correction or even trying to just drag your dog away is also too little too late, we should be again addressing the problem when the dog is trigger stacking not when it's too late. Why are we punishing our dog and acting like our dog is the problem when we were at fault?
Bribing with food infront of their face when they're in a highly stressed state of mind is completely useless, the dog is not able to listen to you and the reward you have will not matter in this scenario for most dogs as the reaction will always take priority.
All dogs are different and some respond better to certain things, you also need to learn your individual dogs trigger stacking signs in order to be able to read a situation and know how to handle it correctly! Thats where I come in.
**QUESTION OF THE DAY**
What are you struggling with the most when it comes to your dogs behaviour?
Are you stocked up on Rabbit Ears for your dog?
Currently on sale from £9.99 to £7.99, a bag of 10-12 rabbit ears are a healthy, odour free natural treat fantastic for cleaning teeth and acting as a natural dewormer for your pet
**TRAINING TIP TUESDAY**
When you are crate training, one of the most important things to note is the size and placement of the crate is very important.
If your dog has a crate that is too small, they feel very uncomfortable as we would as adults sleeping on a small childs bed. If the crate is too big they do not feel cosy and nested enough and this can make progress go a lot slower.
Where you put the crate in the house is also extremely important, the dog needs somewhere thats a perfect balance between too busy and crowded (leading to frustration of being left out and inability to get any peace and quiet) and being peaceful and quiet enough (leading to stress and fear of abandonment because everyone is gone). Getting this right in the early stages of crate training is crucial as once the dog has a negative association to their crate, a lot more time and effort needs to be put into training that issue.
**QUESTION OF THE DAY**
What things can crate training be helpful for?
Apologies for the lack of activity folks, my pc had an absolute meltdown and was unusable for about a month!
Unfortunately what also happened was the SSD drive was completely fried and i lost thousands of hours of work content etc that was not backed up onto anything so in many ways I will be starting a-new!
Thank you for your patience and lets get back to normal!
