Today is known as - The third Monday of January is considered the “most depressing day of the year”. This belief has no scientific basis. However, the lack of energy and optimism after the holiday season is a fact, and many of us experience this melancholy during January.

At ESS, we understand that everyone faces tough times no matter what time of the year it is, and mental health matters to us.

We are proud to have a dedicated team of Mental Health First Aiders ready to support our colleagues. They are there to listen and signpost someone experiencing poor mental health to the support available to them. Our Mental Health first aiders also play a vital role in reducing stigma and promoting positive mental health in the workplace.

Remember- You're not alone. Reaching out for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Share this post and spread the word - together, we can make a little less blue.

This International Men’s Health Week, we are encouraging all of our male colleagues to engage in healthier lifestyle choices to look after their mental and physical health.

It is a fact that males have a higher death rate than females for virtually all of the leading causes of death, with poor lifestyles and late presentation to doctors contributing factors.

Activities planned across the business this week include a series of webinars and sessions focussing on alcohol awareness, smoking cessation, exercise and mental health awareness. We are also offering health screening for including cholesterol, diabetes and BMI.

We are proud to contribute to Lighthouse Club - the Construction Industry Charity and will be educating colleagues this week about the important support they offer to those in need.

By delivering this project using MMC, we were able to run a comprehensive programme involving two distinct elements concurrently. The site establishment and enabling works and foundations were managed on site, while the procurement and manufacture of the building took place in a controlled factory environment.

Today is IBEC National Workplace Wellbeing Day in Ireland and, to mark it, we organised some small gatherings this morning across both our Irish and UK locations. At ESS we work hard to ensure that wellbeing isn’t just given attention on days like today, but that it’s being considered by our teams all of the time. This morning we took the opportunity to remind staff of the various supports available to them including:
· an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
· a series of ‘open-door’ mental health sessions and
· regular ‘Toolbox Talks’
· a number of Mental Health First Aiders who are very active in the promotion of wellness

Staff were also provided with healthy drinks and snacks and it was great for them to get a chance to catch up with each other and socialise – a very important element when it comes to wellbeing in the workplace!

For Workplace Wellbeing Day, IBEC has some great resources and free events happening today and beyond. Check out ibec.ie for more.

Keep an eye on our channels over the coming weeks when we will share more about this exciting and important project.
