Green and gold 🌱💚🌟

We received our Green Tourism Gold Award a few weeks back and have finally got in front of the camera to celebrate! 🎉

Preserving our planet's resources for future generations is at the heart of every decision we make 🌍 From minimising our environmental footprint by monitoring and reducing our waste and energy use ♻️ to educating kids on the importance of seafood sustainability 🐟🌊 we want our guests to be confident that we are fully committed to sustainability and the environment.

One of the great things about our Green Tourism assessment is that it pushed us to complete projects we recognised as crucial to our green journey. This year we pledged our terrace and rooftop garden for pollinators with the All Ireland Pollinator Plan 🌸🐝 ensuring food and shelter year-round for wildlife with heather, bellflowers, wildflowers, and more 🌼🌾 Dine al fresco and enjoy the biodiversity around you! 💚

🐟 Belfast Harbour Oyster Nursery 🦪🌊

Began World Ocean Day today 🩵🌊 with Ulster Wildlife 🦋 and a really informative tour of Belfast Harbour Oyster Nursery 🦪🦪🦪 which is helping to restore the population of the native European flat oyster, improve water quality and boost marine biodiversity in the harbour 💙

The native oyster was thought to be extinct a century ago but was discovered again in 2020. Ulster Wildlife has launched several oyster restoration initiatives in the years since, including in Bangor and Glenarm. Oyster reefs are incredibly important marine ecosystems, providing shelter and feeding grounds for other animals, reducing wave energy and protecting our shorelines, removing excess nutrients and improving water clarity, helping seagrasses to grow 🪸 Amazing to see the waters in our city alive with native oysters, mussels, eels, crabs and jellyfish 🦪🦀🪼

Happy World Ocean Day! 🩵🌍🌊

Indulge in a symphony of flavours with fresh, locally sourced Carlingford oysters 🦪🍋 which owe their unique sweetness and high meat content to the vast water exchange in Carlingford Lough 🌊 And make it an unforgettable seafood experience with luxurious Royal Baerii Caviar, served with homemade buckwheat blinis and traditional accompaniments ✨ Both paired perfectly with a chilled bottle of Champagne 🍾🥂

Inspired by Iceland 🇮🇸🌊

Had an amazing time last week with industry colleagues on the National Federation of Fish Friers - NFFF National Fish & Chip Awards Iceland Tour and study trip 🐟🍟 hosted by Seafood from Iceland 🇮🇸 one of the world's main producers of Atlantic cod and haddock 🐟 Wonderful to join in and experience the buzz of Fishermen's Day celebrations 🎣 and to see how conscious Icelanders are of the environment and ensuring that future generations will benefit from healthy oceans and sustainable, productive fish stocks 🌍

Over our five days, we toured the country's largest seafood company, set sail to see puffins, ate many incredible meals, met with local fishermen, and even took a dip in the natural hot springs, all the while soaking up Iceland's fantastic landscape shaped by fire and ice 🌋🧊 The people could not be more welcoming and accomodating ❤️ Many thanks to our hosts Björgvin, Alisa and team for their exceptional hospitality and for providing us with an amazing learning experience! 🙏

Happy We all depend on pollinators and it is, therefore, crucial to monitor their decline and halt the loss of biodiversity. There are lots of things we can do individually to make a difference. Like planting a diverse set of native plants, which flower at different times of the year; buying raw honey from local farmers; buying products from sustainable agricultural practices or
avoiding pesticides, fungicides or herbicides in our gardens. Let's do it for the bees! https://www.un.org/en/observances/bee-day

🐟🍟 Did you know that in the 1940s wartime paper rations meant that fish & chips were served in cones of yesterday’s newspaper? 🗞 Whilst the practise went out of favour by the 80s, we honour this tradition with our fish & chips, which we serve over the front page of Shipping News ⚓️ reporting on the maritime and seafood heritage of Belfast, the origin of fish & chips on this island, as well as our commitment to sustainability and the environment 🌍
