Our Story

8 years ago The Boundary Pushers seed was sown when we undertook our first challenge - the Belfast City Marathon. The Patterson family were super fit and up for a challenge and their wheelchair user friend was willing to try anything. Using a standard manual wheelchair, we completed the marathon. It wasn’t the most comfortable experience sitting in a wheelchair going at high speed, when it wasn’t designed for that purpose. This did not stop us from going on and completing further marathons. Then in 2017, everything changed for The Boundary Pushers when we took part in the Clonakilty Waterfront Marathon. This has to be the best and most friendly marathon in the world. We felt so welcome and they offered to lend us one of their custom made Hoyt running chairs for the event. Using the chair was one of the best experiences as it was so comfortable to sit in, but also made it easier for those doing the pushing. After trying this Rolls Royce of running chair, we couldn’t imagine going back to a standard chair. So we decided to buy one of our own.

We now use our amazing running chair for any random adventures on the beach, up mountains and over sand dunes, as well as for any sporting events. Our goal is to help others experience the joy of overcoming boundaries and getting involved in adventures they may not otherwise have the opportunity to do. We would like to lend the chair out to anyone who would like to use it. If you are interested in borrowing the chair or finding out more, please get in touch. We would love to hear from you!
