It’s the end of the school term! Which means no more homework, dinner-bath-bed routines 😊

Yes I know, us grown-ups still have to go to work :-/ nonetheless, we can still be a bit more flexible with our evenings 😉 which means we can have that little mid-week dinner with friends. Sometimes the need is greater than the want lol

Here at Meala we are very conscious about being Green. Especially when we plan lighting for any home. Our lighting plans will consist of LEDs throughout to make sure we are being sustainable, cost efficient and energy efficient.

LED lighting is one of the most cost effective, environmentally friendly and especially long-lasting alternatives to fluorescent and incandescent bulbs.

Going LED could save you as much as £240 per year!
LEDs have major advantages over our old traditional CFLs. They don’t produce any UV rays and last up to 5 times longer. Are also lead and mercury free and can last as much as 50 times longer than other bulbs. Their lifetime can range from 30’000 to 100’000 hours or more at constant use.

Lighting Tip!

When designing lighting for your home make sure you plan it as if there is no daylight. The mistake some people make is that they take into account the natural light in the home. However, this is irrelevant because it will be dark when we use our lighting.

The future is bright!

The most sustainable lighting source is natural daylight. It is not only a free renewable resource, but it also well known for its health benefits. However, a careful lighting design plan goes hand in hand with a thought-out architectural plan. Both designs maximise the use of natural light in a building while trying to get the best efficiency from each lighting source.

The strategic placement of windows, skylights, light shafts, atriums and other building components, such that light is reflected evenly throughout internal spaces, is known as daylighting design.

At Meala all of our lighting plans have the use of LED lighting. LEDs are extremely energy efficient, lasting over 100 times longer than incandescent bulbs, and up to 10 times longer than CFLs. They have low heat generation, low power requirements, and are highly durable because there is no filament or tube to break.

Along with technological solutions like energy efficient light bulbs, and using renewable energies for their electricity source, simple practices such as turning lights off, using dimmers and timing switches can all help to make lighting more environmentally friendly. The future of sustainable lighting looks bright.

The architectural space of the living area displays a high vaulted ceiling. Most times when an interior scheme is completed in situations like these, the ceiling area can occasionally create a void and make the area look unfinished. The use of a large chandelier can help soften the space while giving balance to the interior. Also a good opportunity for a statement piece light fitting!

Our latest home staging project completed this week in South Belfast. The client didn’t require our full staging service on this occasion. However they did need to hire some furniture pieces to give the space a homely feel. Helping those potential buyers imagine living there. It's amazing what a few pieces of furniture can do for an empty space. We also gave the client some worthwhile tips eg, the use of mirrors, wall art and plants to add more depth and character to the existing scheme. Very excited to mention that this is our first collaboration with Michael Chandler Estate Agents

A lighting plan helps you map out different layers of lighting and ensures that you meet the functional purpose for each room based on the intended use of the space.

Our Lighting is designed and planned in such a way that each circuit has specific lights that come on simultaneously to create a different scene to manipulate the atmosphere in each room. e.g. an entertainment scene would generate a warm and intimate mood that uses indirect and accent lighting.

Beautiful lighting along with design and energy-efficient technology work hand-in-hand. Using less, saving more and consuming mindfully.

The use of indirect lighting helps create subtle drama with pools of light flowing with the composition of the home and also helps execute that modern Scandi style feel. An example of indirect lighting (as shown on the TV media solution) is the use of an LED strip which helps prevent glare when watching tv and acts as ambient mood lighting.
