Guitar & amp repair – setups, maintenance, mods... Belfast Cathedral Quarter Professional guitar repairs in Belfast
The algorithm kept pushing this stuff on me, and I relented.
So let’s give Monty’s Instrument Food a whirl on this fingerboard.
Discovered something very useful…
If you own a Taylor, you’ll recognise these pickups.
They’re adjustable!
I noticed the bass strings were louder than the trebles, and lo & behold, a .050” Allen key allows you to butt-up the pickup to the saddle for better contact.
FYI .050” is 1.27mm.
Dear Metal Kid
I salute you 🫡
PSA:
If you’re going to put EMGs into an SG, prepare for a crowded cavity. In this case, the plate is *not quite* flush because of the length of the push-pull pots. Subsequently, the two volume k***s are going to sit higher than the tone k***s. Also in this case: the original k***s (for CTS pots) won’t fit the Alpha-style pot shafts.
But hey ho, it’ll work.
“Do you fix pedals?”
Well… sometimes yes. But nothing is cheap unless it’s really easy.
This Strymon Flint needed new switches, and only after they were replaced I discovered the reverb decay control wasn’t functioning. I got it all ship-shape again, but in the end, it cost a little over £80.
So before you ask “Do you repair pedals?” ask yourself how much you really want to spend on a repair.
For the Jazzmaster nerds 🤓 among us, here’s me retrofitting an original bridge into Tune-o-matic post holes

I hope the fat gift goblin was good to you. Maybe you got an acoustic guitar. Maybe you got money. Maybe you want a pickup installed in this (finger quotes) acoustic guitar.
Well, I’ve just updated the RNR questions section, and as luck would have it, there’s now a bit about acoustic pickups.
Well kids, that’s the end of another year. RNR will be back in swing January 3, but feel free to contact me during Twixtmas to get your guitars sorted for then.
I hope this year hasn’t been too rough on you. It’s been a stretch all round, that’s for sure. I also hope the fat red chimney man is good to you, and if he isn’t, it’s because he’s a terrible, terrible jerk.
Happy new year everyone. Except the Tories.
New video: string bends on a 7.25” radius – actual evidence. Plus, another of my world-famous rants: this time it’s about YouTube comments 🤪
7.25” radius and string bends – actual evidence. And hey! As a special bonus, reaction to comments A 7.25” fretboard radius can absolutely determine your action, depending on your preferred style. Some may not want to believe it, but… well, just watch.
Anyone interested in a lefty Ibanez with DIY scalloped board?
For sale…? Interested? Lefty Ibanez. I will clean it up/set it up before purchase. Can be set up to your spec if interested. This was a donation, but it’s too much guitar for a beg...
It’s… beginning to look a lot like…

I’ve amassed a few pickups over the years. Some generic, some half decent, a couple good ones. If you have a project, or just need something to tide you over, enquire or make me an offer.
I have a few pedals for sale…
