We've had another month of some real high performers but Anna has been ticking every box and more.
Fully dialled in with her nutrition, PBs on her main lifts, hitting crazy step numbers, very active in our Thrive run club, also signed up for the Feile 10k & even went ahead and collected member of the month just before she started a double session. ๐
Anna put her faith in us signing up in December before our doors had even opened & we are absolutely delighted to see her fully Thriving now.

The difference in strength, hypertrophy & endurance?
Reps in the 1-5 range build super dense muscle and strength.
Reps in the 6-12 range build equal amounts of muscular power, strength, and size.
Reps in the 12+ range primarily build muscular endurance and size and also cardiovascular health.
There is a grey area depending on each movement but it's important to know how much reps & sets you should be doing for the desired outcome ๐ฆพ

For those that do not have a specific goal. Heres some things to be mindful of ๐
Protein ๐ณ
Aim for 30g - 50g at every meal depending on your targets. It's essential for muscle growth & repair. It is also more satiating than other macros, meaning it'll leave you feeling fuller than carbs or fats would. Meal timing doesn't matter much but the earlier you eat it the better. It'll lower your appetite during the day & it means you'll have less of a target to chase at night. Meats, eggs, fish & diary should be a priority but supplements work also.
Fruit & veg ๐
Don't listen to anyone that tells you not to eat fruit because it has sugar in it. There's a difference between fructose & refined sugars, most fruits are packed with essential micronutrients & are usually very low in cals. Opting for more veg instead other sources of carbs (pasta, rice etc) will help lower total calories to. They're a lot less palatable so bigger portions can fill you more considering the lower calories you'd be consuming.
Sugar ๐ฌ
Most refined sources are empty calories. Meaning there is very little nutrients for the amount of calories you're eating. They are also hyper palatable. Your body needs insulin so eating something so high in sugars will only make you want more, which is why binging is so easy. Especially during a hangover when your blood sugar levels are lower. Reduce doesn't mean you eliminate completely, allow 15-20% of your cals, your relationship with food shouldn't be miserable.
Liquids ๐ธ
Shouldn't really need explaining but if you're goal is to reduce fat then consuming more whole foods is obviously going to fill you more than a drink would. Consuming protein through food sources instead of supplements is better for this reason also but different strokes for different folks so get it in whichever way suits you best.
Eating out ๐
Save money. You don't know how it has been cooked, oils used, portion sizes & usually go for whatever is most convenient. All this makes it so much harder to judge.

Studies have proven that the Arnold press is actually more effective exercise for the activation of Anterior and Medial deltoid muscles as compared to the Overhead Dumbbell Press.

A massive gym can be intimidating & off-putting for a lot of people.

It's about creating habits through consistent work that allow you to enjoy the fruits of life without guilt & still stay on track.
Everyone wants & wishes to achieve something but might see a setback as a failure.
When in reality you can't actually fail if you just don't stop.

Checking your weight is only one measurement of progress though so don't attach your worth to it. It will never be linear & doesn't always tell the whole truth
We take weekly inches as well & would encourage everyone that does have a body composition goal to take photos every few weeks ๐ฆพ

Believe it or not, the hardest part about opening was picking a name ๐ซ
We knew exactly what we wanted to do & how well we could do it.
After securing what we thought was the perfect premise & location we were very confident in delivering a high quality service.
Just couldn't settle on a name for the place. ๐
We had one or two that we liked but just didn't sit right.
After going back & forth through texts, Thrive was mentioned & it stuck straightaway.
It aligns perfectly what we want to do, the atmosphere we intended on creating & principles we wanted to build the facility on.
We knew we wanted to create a safe space, with no egos & real a fitness community for all that would allow each member to personally develop & progress with the help of others.
Tomorrow makes it 4 months to the day since we officially opened & we are very proud of the team of absolute legends that have put their trust in us so far ๐
Truly excited for what the future holds.

What an athlete. Unassisted chin ups, dips, never dodges lifting heavy & is an avid user of our Zone4 & conditioning sessions.
It's getting harder to pick these each month but Nuala has been thriving! ๐

You can't do that without resistance training & the right nutrition.
Shes excelling at both ๐
Her numbers on every lift
Weight is up 1lb but her measurements tell a better story. 1.5 inches up on her glutes & a significant improvement on her quads & hamstrings.

Oonagh is a testament to the importance of consistency. Showing up to her sessions regardless of what issues are thrown her way.
Managing injuries & still putting the work in, staying on top of her nutrition without having to fully eliminate the foods she enjoys from her diet.
An ever present on our team walks also with a massive increase to her step count over our first 7 weeks.

It's virtually impossible to scroll through your stories & not come across at least one screenshot of a workout from an apple watch or fitbit.
Are these calories burnt accurate? ๐ค
No.. They usually over estimate how much the average person burns. Massively in some cases.
But that's not the point.
A lot of people seem to think that a workouts sole purpose is to burn as many cals as they can before finishing.
There is logic behind that but it's not sustainable, nor is it a healthy way to train.
Strength, mobility & fitness should always be a priority.
๐ ๐๐๐ฐ๐น๐ฒ ๐ถ๐ ๐ฒ๐
๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ถ๐๐๐๐ฒ.
What we mean by that is, the more muscle mass you have the more calories you will burn from doing NOTHING. Literally while you're sleeping! ๐ด
Gaining muscle is a long, hard process & maintaining it is the exact same.
The more muscle you gain the more fuel (calories) your body will need just to maintain that muscle.
This is why strength/resistance training is paramount in our planning.
๐๐น๐๐ฎ๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ป๐ธ ๐น๐ผ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐บ.
There are many ways to burn calories but have you considered which approach will serve your future self best?
If you done star jumps for 60 minutes, you'd likely burn more calories than you would from a standard resistance based session. ๐ฅต
For that hour & that hour alone.
Alternatively, resistance training increases your basal metabolic rate (calories required for your body to function).
So... If your planning to burn as much cals as you can, don't aim for a high number on your watch.
Aim to improve your strength & increase your muscle mass. ๐ฆพ
