Connolly Youth Movement - Belfast Branch

The Connolly Youth Movement is a Socialist Republican youth organisation working towards the 32 county Socialist Republic as envisaged by James Connolly.

The CYM brings together young activists from different backgrounds who are united in their opposition to the inequalities that the capitalist system creates at home and throughout the world. We organise social events, education and training workshops, activities in our communities and seek to promote young people's involvement in working class politics. The CYM takes its name from the revolutionary

Ahead of Alternative pride, the CYM received a statement of support from Le****ns and G**s Support the Miners and the Mark Ashton Trust.
Words of support for Alternative Pride from these organisations means a great deal to our movement and all involved in organising Alt Pride.
Please give it a listen.

Thank you to everyone who came to the first annual Belfast Alt Pride event yesterday! We would especially like to thank CATU, Food not Bombs and Small Trans Library Belfast for helping to organise and promote the event; and performers Conn Thornton and Fruity for putting on a great show!

Pride is a movement built by and for q***r working class people, not banks and multinations who pretend to represent us, not cops who victimise us, not reactionary so-called feminists who try to divide us.

The speakers at the event focused on this, with Tom a PhD student and former CATU activist sharing the history of G**s Against Imperialism, a radical group which linked the struggles of national liberation and q***r liberation. Andrew, better known as Tanistry, spoke about the often overlooked but always present q***r stories in Irish history.

Until Pride returns to its roots as a radical, working class movement without corporations and cops the CYM will continue to organise Alternative Pride events throughout Ireland.

University Marking Boycotts

Testimony from struggling Teaching Assistant makes clear that QUB have failed both students and staff.

"Staff feel continually disheartened and disappointed by the communication from management, the decision to deduct 50%, the exclusion of staff participating in or supporting MAB from exam board meetings, the misleading communications to students suggesting only 40 would be impacted and the issuing of essentially meaningless grades which undermine students hard work.
QUB continually say this is a Britain and North of Ireland wide dispute and nothing can be done locally, which just isn’t true.
Failing to issue a statement to call for negotiations when other universities did, such as Cambridge, illustrates that their claim that they aim to influence the national debate is disingenuous.
At every opportunity they have to put students and staff first"
We call for unity of students and staff, and to stand against the on going commercialisation of University institution, for fair treatment of both student and staff.

Student's are protesting at QUB at 5pm tomorrow to show solidarity with staff and to stand for fair treatment of students.

The CYM have been covering up more fascist sticker that have been put up in Belfast the past few days. The CYM continues to cover up these hateful stickers and will continue to combat fascist scum however they may reveal themselves, be it in person or hiding behind stickers.

These cowards hide behind these hateful stickers because they know they’re not welcome on our streets, and we continue to reinforce this anti fascist message.

Fascist Scum OFF OUR STREETS!!

Yesterday the Belfast Branch along side Lasair Dhearg held a demonstration against the presence of imperialists such as Bill and Hillary Clinton, and Tony Blair. They were at QUB giving. speeches celebrating the GFA although we know there is very little to celebrate.
It has been 25 Years of Getting F*ck All

There was heavy police presence blocking off access to the QUB SU and the majority of University Road, protecting imperialists from seeing those who have suffered from their rule calling for change and demanding justice.

We had speakers from Lasair Dhearg, Aindriú Mac Ruaidhrí, the Belfast Branch’s Sarah Sonner and Cuban Activist Yas Rodriguez, all explaining the imperialism of the Clintons and the short comings of the GFA.

Our message is clear

We are For the Peace, Against the process.

Today in Belfast CYM anti-fascist trans people and allies joined in the counter action against the Terf and fascist known as Posie Parker (AKA: Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull) and Graham Lineham.

Police continually patrolled through the crowd of counter protesters filming them, asking pointless questions and trying to get people to remove their face coverings. Showing once again where their interests lie, protecting fascists and attempting to gain information to be able to harass people later on.

The counter action outnumbered the terfs greatly and drowned out their transphobic hate speech, a great turnout in solidarity shows that fascist scum are not welcome on our streets.

Terfs not welcome on our Turf!

Not only has the ruling class created an impoverishment amongst the masses, but now they attempt to keep us away from the bare necessities to survive.

This cruel gesture shows in the most plain sense how capitalism lacks any human care and would rather waste this product than to give to the working class.

This supposed “cost of living crisis” is just capitalism in further regression. We see that the working class are void of some basic needs, but we also acknowledge that they would be the first to be punished for attempting to take what’s needed for themselves.

This is far more than a security protection. It is class war at its most subtle yet excruciating, and Marx’s theory of metabolic rift can be seen here- that being the increased impoverishment of the working class due to bourgeois decadence with food and other trades which in turn worsen our environment.

We must resist such disgraceful acts and ensure the people receive all nutrition necessary to get by.

Yesterday comrades covered up a number of transphobic stickers in West Belfast.

All forms of transphobia will be tackled head on to combat the spread of hate and discrimination of the trans community.

We at the CYM stand in solidarity with the trans community and will not tolerate any form of transphobia on our streets.

Once again the true nature of the PSNI is demonstrated through their continued harassment against under 18s through Strip-Searches. This is a blatant harassment against minors carried out by the PSNI, there have been many incidents similar to these in which known Republicans have also been subject to unjust strip searches. Shown here see are the true interests of the PSNI, to disrupt the lives of innocent people, and to exploit their positions of power to harass the youth. The CYM stand against these unjust searches on the youth and the continued intimidation carried out by state authorities.

Photos from Connolly Youth Movement - Belfast Branch's post 10/03/2023

❗️Yesterday as Belfast hit below freezing and the snow began to fall, the PSNI spent their time harassing & moving on societies most vulnerable.

PSNI officers attempted to remove sleeping bags & other sources of warmth.

The class interest of the PSNI have are been clear, ours must be too!
The PSNI are not a normal police force, they are armed thugs & servants of capitalism. 🚫

𝗪𝗘 𝗗𝗘𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗩𝗘 𝗝𝗨𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗘

The inquest into the Springhill/Westrock Massacre of July 1972 will begin today (20/2/23). Families will be gathering in solidarity outside of Court 12, Laganside as the families make their way into the court.

5 were murdered by British paratroopers, who claimed they killed gunmen, denied by public witnesses. Three teens, a father of six, and a priest were those lost).

Not only has this never been given a fair investigation, but none of the victim’s families heard news of their deaths.

British imperialism brought terror to countless families in West Belfast on the night of the murders. Within weeks of these murders, the British government commanded a mass military invasion of regions of Belfast and Derry, deploying over 20,000 troops and hundreds of armoured vehicles.

We stand in full solidarity with the families in their search for accountability and justice after being torn by occupied forces. British imperialism has no place on our island.

We also support the families’ opposition to the proposed Legacy Bill, which will create further bureaucracy in the fight for truth across numerous British injustices and shelve these fights for justice into obsolescence.

Tonight, CYM members gathered alongside hundreds of people to pay tribute to Brianna G**y, a young trans Woman who was brutally murdered in England this week.

We extend our support and solidarity to her family, friends and to the whole trans community.
We reject transphobia and misogyny as we do all forms of prejudice and hatred designed to divide the working
class.

Not one more. Say her name.

CYM member & PHD Student at QUB Sarah Sonner addressing todays picket. ✊🚩

“This is not just an isolated struggle in our universities. We are in the midst of a crisis, not cost of living, but cost of greed, the cost of capitalism.

We must stand up against CEOs, directors and Vice Chancellors, no matter the workplace, who would rather line their own pockets and hide than meet the demand of the workers. The workers, the people whose labour creates the profits that they never see.”

There is no British Justice.

This is David Holden, he murdered Aidan McAnespie in cold blood.

He was found guilty, he continued to lie in court.
He will not serve a day in prison for his crimes.

That is British justice, our thoughts are with the family of Aidan McAnespie & victims of Britain’s crimes.
