โFor many in working class communities, fracking comes with the prospect of employment, a prospect used to win people over to the side of these businesses. and so we must engage with these communities, we must fight alongside workers for a just transition, carbon friendly jobs and reassure them that we are on their side. You cannot have green capitalism, they are incompatible. Therefore a just transition which puts the people first can only take place under socialism.โ

The CYM joined todays protest to oppose the ยฃ20 cut to Universal credit. This cut will push thousands of people into poverty and do even more damage to those who already struggle with it in place. There are approximately 134,000 people in the North who rely on Universal Credit. This is yet another violent attack on our class by the barbaric Tory party.

Sands has always been seen as a mythological like figure, but in reality he was simply a working class man who was committed to the betterment of his class and people. Bobby Sands and his 9 comrades who died on hunger strike in 1981 continue to inspire the new generation of young Republicans.
The centenary of the Northern state is nothing to celebrate. A close look at the history of the north and the current situation we find ourselves in shows the brutal reality of partition and British imperialism.
