Hello Instagram it’s been a while!

I’m still here! Still baking.

I’m busy training for the London landmarks half marathon. Im not really a runner being honest with you but asked me to run for them so though why not! If anyone would like to donate to such a wonderful cause, the link is in my bio.

On top of all that, I decided I missed working in my old job too much, I realised it actually builds quite a big part of my sense of self, so next month I’ll be heading back to work as an Assistant Psychologist and baking on the side. I like baking cake, I just don’t live and breathe it, the way I do psychology.

When I started Dolfino’s, like many free from brands and businesses, I started it out of necessity. I felt the need was there for someone to provide special cakes and treats for people with allergies, intolerances and other dietary requirements.

I never imagined starting a business, especially not with 2 very small humans to raise on top of that. I started without a plan, I’m still not sure I have one moving forward, but to receive recognition like this makes me feel like I’m on the right path somehow.

I’m Sarah and I’m the owner and baker of Dolfino’s.

I’ve always loved being in the kitchen, baking or cooking away, but when my son developed multiple food allergies as a baby, I had to really get to work.

His first birthday arrived and I needed to make him a special cake! I felt that I wanted more than a supermarket cake, and a baker couldn’t keep him safe from his allergens. So I made him a cake free from the top 14 allergens and ….

Dolfino’s was born!

People with food allergies, health conditions and those making conscious dietary choices deserve special cakes!

One day, some day, someone is going to upset the wrong person… or someone will decide that “enough is enough”

And change will be expected.

Through our work with Allergy Companions our main focus is to promote positivity and positive change in the hospitality industry and beyond

That’s our dream - all we want is to allow people to live a normal life and be treated like anyone else

Yet, we often receive messages and comments such as:

⚠️ “My partner was asked to sit in the toilet for 13 hours if he was concerned about others eating nuts on board” - this comment was made by a staff member of one of the world’s top 4 airlines

⚠️ “They refused me entry because I have an allergy, but couldn’t explain exactly why. I asked could I sign a waiver to just sit and have a coke and not eat, but they refused.” - this comment was made by one of our users after being refused entry by a restaurant in Birmingham

⚠️ “My husband and I dined at an upmarket sushi chain, whose policy is not to serve customers with allergies” - someone in that company made the conscious decision to exclude allergic diners

Some of the attitudes and behaviours we see remind us of times in history where certain minorities or ethnic groups were excluded or treated differently - surely we’ve moved away from such negative behaviours?

Why are we seeing such comments? Is it ignorance? Are people scared? Do we need more education on the subject?
