Family Connections. A follow-up on the blog I posted a few days ago.
Whilst reading through the obit/probate record of WILLIAM PALMER, one one-time Publican of The Ship Inn, I noted that one of the executors was JOHN HOLMES a farmer from Billinghay Fen.
This alerted me to investigate further, for on my paternal line my grandmother was a HOLMES and the family is very significant in A check of my family tree revealed I had a 3 x Great Uncle, JOHN HOLMES a farmer living in Billinghay Fen with his wife Mary nee GOOSE.
John Holmes was born in 1822 in Billinghay, Lincolnshire, the son of Thomas, who was 35 and his mother, Rebecca, who was 24 at the time of his birth.
He had married Mary GOOSE on the 14 May 1850 in https://www.freebmd.org.uk Billinghay marriages June 1850: Reg; District: Sleaford, Vol:14 Page 981.
William Palmer's wife was Elizabeth GOOSE, and John Holmes was included in Williams Obit, there clearly was a connection between the two women. A search to ascertain their relationship revealed they were in fact, sisters. The research of the Ship Inn has now revealed an unknown family connection to myself.
