Birmingham Roller Derby UK
Birmingham Roller Derby is Birmingham's top Women’s Flat Track Derby Association roller derby league. New members always welcome!
This month, we honour Black history, resilience and the amazing contributions of Black leaders, both past and present. We’re especially proud of the Black players, coaches and volunteers who bring strength, creativity and dedication to every part of the league. 💪🏾💜🩵💛
At BRD, we believe roller derby is for everyone - a space where diverse backgrounds, voices and talents unite to create something extraordinary. Let’s keep celebrating and uplifting each other, on and off track, all year long! 🏆

Last night some of our members swapped roller skates for ice skates and went to support Solihull Vixens Ice Hockey Club in their home game (which they totally smashed!)
It’s not just our skaters we want to shout about, we also want to say a huge thank you to all our awesome officials, both on and off skates 🩵💜💛🦓
Thanks again to Floyd King Derby Photography for capturing all the action, check his page out for the full albums

Don’t forget if you’re joining us tomorrow for our double header we’ll be accepting donations for SIFA Fireside who support homeless people and those in vulnerable housing situations in the Birmingham area
Donations aren’t just limited to what’s in the video, items could include toiletries, razors, sanitary wear, hot water bottles, hats, socks, gloves, food goodies and anything else you feel people may find useful or nice. Sleeping bags, roll mats or rucksacks are also really useful and do not need to be new, just clean and in good useable condition
If you have items you’d like to donate just let one of our BRD members know tomorrow. Please note that we cannot accept any items containing alcohol

We may not actually use red cards in roller derby but we certainly want to on
Since 1996 Show Racism the Red Card have been working to challenge racism through empowering role models within communities, organisations, and sports, in order to dismantle racism in society
Although SRtRC predominantly focusses on football their goal is one that we as a league support too. Show your support by wearing red today and show racism the red card
Last but by no means least, we’d like to introduce our Officials who will be there keep things safe and running smoothly on track. Thanks Officials! 🦓💜🩵💛

Today is International Pronouns Day!
On the third Wednesday of October we recognise International Pronouns Day, an opportunity to celebrate everyone’s pronouns as well as raising awareness of their importance. Using an individual’s correct pronouns is a very basic show of respect, much like using a persons name. It costs nothing to show basic human kindness and respect whatever someone’s chosen pronouns
For more information on International Pronouns Day (and pronouns in general) you can check out https://pronouns.org/day
We’re otterly shocked!
We’ve just been made aware that there’s a duplicate Facebook profile now impersonating BRD. If you receive a friend request from, or otherwise come across this fake profile we urge you to block and report as this is not us
With our Double Header coming up this Saturday we thought we’d introduce our teams
For game one we have our very own B Team with some new faces in among the more familiar ones. Taking them on we have Hulls Angels Roller Derby - HARD. We’re excited to see them all on track! 💛🩵💜
Don’t forget you can head on over to the event page to buy your tickets in advance

A week today until our double header against Hulls Angels Roller Derby - HARD and Bristol Roller Derby
Check out the event page below for details and tickets! We can’t wait to see you there 🩵💜💛

Yesterday was World Mental Health Day!
You may have seen us sharing a number of posts about our Mental Health Champions, Jo and Jelly, in conjunction with Sport Birmingham
But what does this actually mean?
At BRD, we pride ourselves in giving the best possible pastoral support to skaters, with frameworks to support our rookies moving up into Development squad, to those managing being a crossover skater, right through to our skaters who have World Cup ambitions.
We understand sport is very exciting, but it can sometimes be complex and challenging too. By becoming Mental Health Champions with Sport Birmingham, we have training in Mental Health in Sport to give one to one support to those that need it. We also have support from the partners Birmingham Mind, Birmingham And Solihull Mental Health Trust, Aston Villa Foundation and Living Well Consortium and they provide a number of routes and opportunities to support our skaters, should they need further support with their mental health.
These partners can also recommend and refer people who are accessing their services to us at BRD, as we have this training in place. At the March 2024 Mental Health Champions meeting, a number of the partners commented that Roller Derby was the most inclusive and welcoming sport they had ever heard about, whilst being run entirely by volunteers (a lot of the other Champions are in salaried sports positions!).
We have recently expanded our support to include a detailed go-to document for our members, which lists pathways and various national and local support systems. What is your roller derby league doing to support your skaters, officials and volunteers mental health?
Jo says ‘It gives me a lot of pride that we have the ability to offer this safe space at BRD for people to come and learn how to skate, how to officiate and how to play roller derby. Inclusivity is literally at the heart of our values and this reflects in our representation of the league both on and off the track’.
Jelly added “It’s been very rewarding to see our members flourish and thrive in a safe space where they can explore all that roller derby has to offer in a supportive, welcoming environment where everyone has a place”.
Parker and Scout killing it in our brand new kit from LINEA Sportswear, we love it 🩵💜💛
