A potential client asked me to quote for a bespoke and unique eCommerce website. I replied back with a 5000 word document including a quote of £5000.

Client: That seems really high.

Me: No problem, what do you think is a reasonable price for this project?

Client: £2500 max

Me: OK, then why not do it yourself?

Client: But I don't know how.

Me: Well how about I spend 50 hours teaching and guiding you through the project for £2500? That way you will save £2500 and learn something new in the process.

Client: That's great, yea lets do that then.

Me: First of all you will need the following: A decent computer with a minimum of 2 screens. Software like Notepad ++, MS Visual Studio Code, Photoshop, Gimp or Inkscape.
Fifty hours will not be enough time to get this project off the ground, You will also need to know how to setup and secure a Linux server to host your website.
You will need to have a very decent knowledge in the following:
✔️ HTML 5
✔️ PHP
✔️ JavaScript
✔️ MySQLi
✔️ CSS
plus much much more besides.

Client: That's going to take years to do, I have no idea where to start.

Me: Indeed it will, I had to spend tens of thousands of hours learning all these skills. However there are plenty of places to learn all this like W3Schools, php dot net, YouTube, Udemy plus many more besides. On top of all this you will need to spend time planning the project, researching and developing the project.

Client: I am realising that there is a lot more to this project then I first realised. I can see now that your quote is very reasonable and I would like you to handle it for me.

CONCLUSION:

When you hire a freelancer like yours truly, especially for a bespoke and custom job. You are not only paying for the project to be completed but you are also paying for the following:

When requesting a quote for a custom project to be done, don’t disrespect the freelancer by asking them to lower their fee. Remember you can always look elsewhere for other quotes from other freelancers.

👉 FREELANCERS: Remember your worth and quote accordingly
👉 CLIENTS: Recognise the freelancers worth and be respectful of it.

Has anyone seen the new Modern Facebook Layout yet? It's about time it went into dark mode. I just love it. I try not to spend hours on this platform as am always working, but this should make people more productive as its a lot more intuitive as well as being easier on the eyes.
