We take in unwanted or stray cats and kittens, ensure they receive necessary veterinary care and find them their purrfect forever homes. Here's a message for you. Dont you ever try to sell your kittens on OUR REGISTERED CHARITY ANIMALS RESCUE PAGE again. We are a registered rescue who, like many rescues are absolutely swamped with unwanted cats and kittens. There's cat dying in the streets and you are breeding for profit? I hope you are a licensed breeder who pays tax on their income otherwise what you're doing is ILLEGAL.

Your comments were reported and removed. Shame on you!

Hi hoomans. My name is Destiny and this is my mom, her name is Darcy. My mom is so lovely and she has done an amazing job raising us kittens. We are all grown up now and ready to leave her. I'm going to miss my mom but I'm looking forward to going to a new home and a new family with one of my siblings. We will be OK, I mean, we will have eachother right. But what about my mom 😿 I don't want to leave her behind in rescue. I wish she could have a home too, someone to love her the way she has loved us 💕. I'm putting my paws together and praying really hard for you mom. I love you 💞. Love from Destiny 🐾

This story is EXTREMELY DISTRESSING but not uncommon unfortunately. Still don't think we have a problem with unwanted and stray cats. Still think it's OK not to neuter your cat. Read on but be aware, this post is DISTRESSING

Meet Petunia. This little baby came in to us today at not yet 1 day old. She is doing well but for 1 of our volunteers it's going to be 2 hourly feeds around the clock for a while 😵 Good luck to foster mommy and baby. I have a feeling foster mom will need it.

A shout out to the wellcat team today. Why? Why not 🤷🏻‍♀️ this year has been a particularly tough year. Its been challenging and we are still battling.

We are a small rescue with volunteers from all walks of life, many with full time jobs and families. Each of you play such a huge part, giving your time, energy and love to the animals in our care. So on behalf of the cats, thank you!!! 💜

Wellcat is a pro indoor only rescue. Now that's not to say that we believe no cat should ever go outside, it's very much a "individual cat" subject. If we have a cat come to us that has been an outdoor cat and enjoys going outdoors it would be cruel to suggest they should never venture out again. But, outdoors is very dangerous these days. We see more and more cats with injuries such as being shot, yes shot. Cats are frequently injured through fighting, getting into mischief, being stolen and even being poisoned. Then of course there's the dreaded FIP and FeLV diseases 😿

Preventing exposure of leukaemia and FIP.
The most effective way to protect cats from FeLV and FIP is to prevent them from coming into contact with cats that are positive for the virus. If your cat goes outside, you can supervise them or consider building a catio.

Of course there is the added bonus that your cat insurance for an indoor only cat is cheaper too!

Wouldn't it be lovely to live in an ideal world where all our fur babies could go out to play safely. Alas this is just not the case.

We received well over 100 emails this week from people wanting to either rehome their cats or have found stray cats. We really have a huge problem now in England with unwanted and stray cats and it's only going to get worse. We are not only turning cats away 😿 but we are advising people to look outside of Birmingham for rescue space.

We are urging members of the public to contact their local MP'S and demand that something be done to help. Please, it's just 1 email or letter 🙏 please help by joining us in trying to highlight the plight of these cats.

Facts

We are a country over run with strays

There are not enough homes

There's not enough financial help for rescues

Rescues are swamped

People are still breeding, selling or giving kittens away

Please help. It's 1 letter but if 1000 people wrote 1 letter maybe the powers that be might listen.

The tale of a cat rescue volunteer.

So my day started off not so great. I was woken by my cat licking my eyeballs. You know when they lick your eye lids but your lids open slightly and they get the eyeball 😵Anyone who has experienced this will know exactly what I mean. So after regaining composure I trotted down stairs, still somewhat sleepy when I felt that familiar cold and slimy pile of yuk between my toes, yep, the eyeball licking cat had deposited a hairball right at the bottom of the staircase. "OK, this day will get better" I thought to my self with genuine positivity. Oh how wrong was I.

I arrived in rescue to find Bryony had completely up ended her litter tray. Of course with the litter tray looking like the ship in the poseidon adventure, where was a girl to p**p? On top of the litter tray of course. The kittens had clearly had a party, skye and Ellie had decided to bathe in their water bowl which had splashed up their window and now dripping out onto the floor and Hamilton decided he would add to the chaos by having zoomies in pure excitement at the prospect of breakfast. "It's fine, what's a little mess in the grand scheme of things". So off I go and fill a bucket with hot soapy water and let the cleaning commence.

The phone was ringing off the hook, emails flying in a rate of knots and then it happened. I was just putting the food into the pod when little skye jumped straight over my shoulder onto the floor and under the unit. In a panic I tried to retrieve her but she had gone right to the back of the unit. So under I go. Now this is a small unit and I had to lie on the floor and shuffle my way under and I'm NOT a size 8 20 year old! I managed to take hold of this wriggly little furball when I realise I'm stuck! I'm stuck with half my body under a unit with a bloody kitten in my hand. So there I am trying to do some body popping reverse worm to free myself from the inch wincy space, my hair is now all over my face, my specs are half on and half off, my clothes covered in god only knows what when I finally free myself as what I can only call hell. I pop skye back into her pod, finish off feeding and stand back. I did it!! I cleaned, fed, watered and yes I looked like hell but it was done. All the cats were happy, the room was lovely and clean and I felt a real sense of achievement.

Looking forward to getting home to a nice brew and some lunch I walk into my house expecting a warm welcome from my eyeball licking friend but instead what do I get. See the picture below ..........

If you're wondering why our page is so quiet it's because of lovely Sas who runs our page is away on holiday. I know! How dare she!?! So unfortunately we are left with not so good folk with not so good ideas or skills. We will do our best to fill her shoes whilst she's away, but please bear with us and don't worry you'll soon know when she is back 😹😹😹

Travis update 😺

As mentioned previously, we’ve had some tough, long-term cases in rescue this year. Travis is one of them and if you have followed his journey so far, you’ll know this poor boy has had everything against him. This boy has battled fleas, Lice, mange, malnourishment, worms, digestive problems and dental disease and more.

But don’t worry, all is well! It has taken months of flea and worming treatments, vet visits, veterinary foods and lots and lots of TLC to get him to this point. But on his long journey of health, he is now finally able to go into foster with two of our loving volunteers.

We will of course update you all on how he is doing but for now, he temporarily leaves us with this photo. We just love how he looks at us with so much gratitude and affection! 🥹♥️

They’re settling into rescue life really well but were too busy checking out the birdies to have their photos taken. 😹

These boys are ready for their new home together so look out for their adoption post soon! 🖤🖤

Pixie and Dottie update! 😺😺

Here at Wellcat, we’ve had some tough long-term cases this year which has taken effect on cats coming in and going off to their forever homes.

Pixie and Dottie have been with us for several months now and we would like to share with you their fantastic transformation, although they are still not quite ready to leave us yet.

When they first arrived, they were absolutely petrified and totally unhandleable but after weeks and weeks of patience and special care from our wonderful volunteers, they’ve both become very affectionate girls and have really bonded with people now. Pixie will meow at you for fuss whereas Dottie has adapted a cuter way to get our attention by nudging us with her head. They’re both just too cute!

Sadly, Pixie had also developed a condition called Eosinophillic Granuloma Complex, which is basically an inflammatory skin condition that affected her lip and it looked like her lip has peeled several layers. With many thanks to the amazing Oaks Veterinary Centre, she was quickly diagnosed and treated. She’s healing well but is not out of the woods just yet as she’s still undergoing treatment that has almost completed now.

So what happens now?
We’ve got to wait a couple of months to see if Pixie’s condition has completely gone and hopefully get the all clear from the vets. When the time comes, these girls will need an extra special home, who will be patient and understanding of their timid natures and give them plenty of time to settle in and bond with them.

Look out for future updates on these adorable sisters! 😺😺
