Keepin busy with the day job

Whilst Corked is something that I truly love and believe in, it does come second to the day job - vineyard life & winemaking at .

Now that the sun’s come out, vineyard tours have begun, sending out orders & maintaining our shop has become more work, and we have also just started blending the most recent vintage. Lots going on!

That being said, I hope this reassures you that these are designs by a real wine fanatic. I dont release anything that I myself wouldn’t wear day-to-day; or even at something like a winetasting.

Hello again

It’s been a while. Again!

Corked was always a side project alongside running an actual vineyard, so when we decided to launch last year, it unfortunately timed with a particularly tricky vintage and time with a toddler. I just didn’t have time or energy to work on this.

But now we’re back because we genuinely love the idea of this business. We all deserve better wine T-shirts!

Back from the dead

Let’s be honest - this was not the punchy launch we were hoping for 😖 It just so happens that this coincided with a tricky as hell vintage for growing english wine (did you know that that’s our main job?).

Thankfully, harvest is now over, and we have a relatively quieter 6 months ahead. Wine T-shirts need to be better, and we think we’re part of the solution.

Mushrooms, grapes & vines

2023 is proving to be a difficult vintage for growers. Never ending rain has sent the disease pressure through the roof, which means we are spending far more time than usual up among the vines. Winegrowing is rarely easy or normal 🙃

Perhaps our next set of designs will be about celebrating winemakers and grape growers 🤔

Michelin starred vermouth

Today we visited Hampton Manor to start the process of blending a second batch of bespoke vermouth for their Michelin started restaurant Grace & Savour . In-keeping with the restaurant’s ethos of using only home-grown or English produce, we will be departing from our usual citrus peels in favour of plants and herbs grown around the Hampton estate. We can’t wait to see what they create!

We want the best for you and our T-shirts, so we recently did some shopping around to see if we could find a better print company. The answer - no we cannot; which makes us feel good to be honest!

On the left - What Would Jesus Drink (one of our favourite designs) using a new company, compared to Gentleman Llama using Teemill. The trial was inferior to Teemill in every way - garish shirt colour, inaccurate print colours, and grainy ink. Rubbish! Like a Bordeaux Superieur vs a First Growth beauty 🤢

So just to say that our tees are a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. We wouldn’t slip you an Echo Falls for £26 😖

CaN yOu TaSte ThE mInErALiTy?

Bloody minerality. I hate that word. Alongside gate keeping and rigid, old school tastes, it is my least favourite thing in the wine world.

Why?

It’s become the shortcut to (apparently) sounding knowledgable when it comes to wine. Its how most take the step from casual wine drinker to wannabe influencer/blogger/review site. They spout the word as a shorthand that a wine is good. Every wine, and every wine they try is mineral, apparently. I’ve had my wine described as mineral, once. It killed me ☠️

But what exactly do they mean? See I agree that the occasional wine is “mineral”, but they are SO MUCH RARER than people make it sound - and I’ve drink some good sh*t. Really, I’d rather people were specific when it comes to their suggestion of minerality - iron, wet stone, salt, chalk etc. Those exist, but please let’s stop using the cheap currency that “minerality” has become. Make words matter.
