The Peak District in August comes alive with pinks and purples. A magical, vibrant end to the season before summer gives way to the crisp warm colours of autumn.

• Carmine & Cardinal •

It’s the 4th anniversary of one of my favourite mornings of photography amongst this poppy field in Worcester and in honour of that I’ve edited two new images from that shoot; one pre-dawn and one after sunrise ♥️

I've also popped both up on my store if you fancied a print http://www.veritymilliganphotography.com/prints/carmine & http://www.veritymilliganphotography.com/prints/cardinal

Also, before anyone asks, the field no longer exists sadly.

Can we talk about how glorious the evening light has been in Birmingham recently? Giving me Rome vibes.

I’m currently on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides enjoying the wild landscape and weather. I thought I’d share an image from yesterday where the briefest glimpse of light was all I needed to show off the grandeur of the waves crashing onto Scarista beach, the Harris hills visible in the distance.

When the sun tried to burn through the fog on Saturday in Birmingham it created this really cool halo around the Radisson hotel. Made everything look a little apocalyptic! Or, maybe I’ve been playing/watching too much of The Last of Us…

Photos from Verity E. Milligan Photography's post 21/01/2023

A couple of phone shots of Gas St in the fog this morning. I thought the weather forecast had got it wrong as I arrived to clear skies, but slowly the fog emerged on the horizon, working it’s way towards the city. At first it was ethereal and then, all consuming. In the second image the Cube has completely disappeared. A reminder of what this place looked like before redevelopment perhaps. Will post the big camera shots soon but hope you enjoy these little snap shots 💙

The Frozen Cut

Some conditions just make a scene feel a little more timeless. The smoke from the barge drifting across and the frozen canal made me feel like it could either be 2022 or 1975. I supposed the modern architecture gives it away, but it sure was atmospheric in the basin this morning.

Clent was a frozen wonderland this morning. This was before sunrise, with a full moon providing some light, freezing fog consuming the landscape below.

I hope this post doesn't offend anyone. I had decided against promoting my prints and services this year because times are hard for everyone and well, I'm pretty rubbish at this kind of stuff at the best of times. Alas, all my December workshops were cancelled and I've had quite a bit of work fall through so please forgive me for advertising my prints. It's not comfortable for me and I really so appreciate all your kind words and support. It means the world.

Heck, it's been quite sometime since I've posted here, for which I apologise. I hope you're all well and have had a decent 2022? It's been a busy year for me, but I thought I'd share these images of a foggy Birmingham before sunrise this morning. I love fog, it makes the ordinary, extraordinary.

Light breaks through to illuminate just a slither of the architecture. The whole scene felt a little bit of NYC in the middle of Birmingham.

Naturally I’m one street off geographically wise for the pedants of the world 😉

• Those Buttermere Trees •
=============================
Man, I’ve been lucky with the conditions this week. Light, mist, rainbows. Often landscape photography can be endlessly frustrating, and I might get one good morning, but this week has just been, well, easy. No frustration, no straining, no angst. I’ve had a couple of moments when the conditions have been good and I started to worry I was in the wrong place, but I’ve remembered to breathe, calmed myself down and realised there is no ‘right spot’, there’s only here and now. In a few hours at Buttermere there was light, showers, rainbows and atmosphere. This was the moment the light broke through. It’s not transformative, it’s not original, but it’s mine. I breathed out, calmed down and the light did what it does best.

Sutton Park is one of my favourite places in autumn, especially just after sunrise when the light filters through the woodland.

• Autumn Equinox •
===============================
Today is the autumn equinox so I spent the morning chasing mist and light around Sutton Park. I had no real agenda, just walked for miles around the woodland and water, seeing what the morning brought to me. I’m trying to let go of expectation and remain open rather than imposing a certain notion of what I want onto a morning. I was exploring. Many years ago I would hunt for Fly Agaric, frustrated that I could never find one at all, let alone intact. I stopped looking. Stopped striving. I felt like the Universe was trying to teach me to just enjoy whatever I found, rather than reject the current for an imagined future. It’s a good lesson for life, but much easier to apply to the search for fungi. Now, I know not to look. Now I know that if it’s the right time, I’ll catch a glimpse of their glorious colours out the corner of my eye and the whole morning will turn like the seasons.
