Babb Photo
Creative, vibrant and colourful wedding and family photography for people who do things a bit differ
Babb Photo is all about joy and capturing your wedding as it unfolds, in all of it's truthful glory. I'm based between London and Bath but I photograph weddings all over the world and I love laid back days, adventurous days, intimate days, quirky days and days that are all about you and your love for each other. My favourite ingredient for an absolutely awesome wedding is joy and I can't get enoug
Did you check out this very lovely microwedding on the blog? Auto correct really wants it to be a microwaving but it isn’t. Jessica and Patrick’s elopement at was magical. Imagine arriving at your wedding on a vintage steam train before saying your I dos with just a handful of your closest people. Head over to the blog to check it out.
I get asked a lot about my favourite weddings. I’ve photographed over 300 at this point (I stopped counting a few years ago) and it’s safe to say I’ve seen a lot of fun wedding things. From festivals to live wrestling to flash mobs to drag queens, from shooting in Tobago and Dubai and across Europe, there have been a lot of brilliant moments over the years. The big, shiny moments aren’t the moments that I connect with the most though. The moments I love are the moments of quiet connection. Like this moment where Luke and Pip braved the lashing rain at to spend a quiet moment together on the beach. Pip wanted to feel her feet barefoot on the sand, even though it was freezing and torrentially wet. The quiet moments are everything. And those quiet moments are where we find connection over and over again and we grow and evolve together. In the words of this passage from Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, which was a popular wedding reading at one point, “Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being in love, which any fool can do. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Those that truly love have roots that grow towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossoms have fallen from their branches, they find that they are one tree and not two”. Weddings are a beautiful spectacle in many ways but the parts of the wedding that gives me the most joy to capture are those quiet, intimate moments of connection between you.
Did I promise that I’d catch up on last year’s weddings? Yes. Am I fulfilling that promise RIGHT NOW? Yeah I am. Lucy and Vince had three weddings but who’s counting. I got to join them for the middle on which took place at Lucy’s family home and had all of the fun festival vibes. From Lucy and Vince’s amazing colourful outfits to their amazing band and beautiful marquee. It was laid back, lovely and sunny from start to finish. The land where the wedding took place was also covered in some of the most beautiful oak trees I’ve ever seen and I love an oak tree. Shout out to Lucy and Vince’s suppliers who included and the amazing Congo Faith Healers.
I’ve already gushed quite a lot about these two in precious my post from their legal wedding, so I’ll keep it simple today. What a beautiful day full of beautiful people. Congratulations Roo and Fred, it was a joy to photograph you! High fives to the awesome suppliers I worked with on the day and 🖤
Happiness in marriage is not something that just happens.
A good marriage must be created. In marriage the little things are the big things.
Did you know that, as well as being a wedding photographer, I’m a nearly-qualified counsellor? I also teach meditation and other well being practices at and offer branding and portrait photography over at
Those things might all seem unrelated, but the thread that runs through everything is connection.
Weddings are very obviously about the connection between the couple, but they’re also a celebration of the important people in their lives and those connections. It’s also a fascinating exploration of connection for me. As every wedding day unfolds I feel a little bit more connect to the beautiful humans in front of me.
I see you start your day, getting ready with your favourite people. I see you nervously set out for your ceremony. I see the anticipation as you’re about to say your I Dos. I see your favourite people rooting for you, the gratitude for the people who could be there with you and the reverence as you acknowledge absent friends. I see the journey you’ve been on and it’s always an honour to witness it.
Rach and Sam were no exception to this. I saw the attention to detail that went into having the most relaxed of East London weddings. There were graffiti murals and espresso martinis; hilarious speeches and surprise Birthday cakes; Routemaster Buses and late night after parties. Most importantly, there was the warmth of the people they gathered around them.
In the words of The Art of Marriage, which Rach and Sam had as a reading at their ceremony:
Marriage is standing together facing the world. It is forming a circle of love that gathers the whole family. It is doing things for each other, not in the attitude of duty or sacrifice, but in the spirit of joy.
Congratulations, Sam and Rach!
And thanks to for her amazing second shooting skills on the day
I talk a lot about legacy. Last night I showed a friend a picture of my great grandad and my grandad as a small boy, in a tiny fishing boat in Brixham Harbour. The picture was taken in the early 1900s and you can see the silhouette of old fashioned sailboats in the background. My great grandad was a fisherman and we have other pictures of him weaving his fishing nets. He also volunteered for the back in the days when being lifeboat crew was incredibly dangerous. That picture is part of my family legacy and it speaks to my love of the sea, my love of photography and my connection to my ancestors.
What has that got to do with these two wonderful humans sitting on some steps? These steps are the entrance to the building where Roo and Fred met. A building that has played a prominent role in their journey together. A building that signifies a shared passion and profession because Roo and Fred are both artists and art brought them together.
This picture, on these important and significant steps, was taken on an important and significant day. The day Roo and Fred had their legal wedding. The follow up, a celebration with all of the people they love, is happening today and I can’t wait to photograph it. This sequence of photos includes images from their wedding ceremony but also the things that signify the life they share. Home. Family. Culture. Love. Photography is about legacy and I’m always honoured to be able to document that.
See you later, Roo and Fred, for part 2!
Black and white is worth the fight. Kate and Tor had a beautiful intimate ceremony at Manchester Town Hall, followed by a celebration at .last week. That magical side lighting followed us around all day. I love me some chiaroscuro.
Secret elopements FTW. Lisa went on a cruise with her mom because they love to ballroom dance. One evening a handsome man asked her to dance. I’d say the rest is history but you probably need to know that Lisa and Paul has their first date with Mom and the three of them have been a team ever since. It was an absolute delight to be the fourth person at this intimate day. The three of them headed to the register office in Stourbridge before having afternoon tea at . These two are so, so in love and that’s what it’s all about.
I’m shooting a very secret elopement in the rain today. There’s always something magical about being involved in such an intimate occasion. Today it’s just me, the couple and their witnesses. Here’s a picture from my last elopement, which also took place in torrential rain, at sunrise at the beautiful in Bath. People often ask ‘what happens if it rains?’. My answer is we embrace it. We seek out beautiful inside window light, we get flexible with the plan and, most importantly, we grab umbrellas and we head outside and embrace it! If you’re looking for a solid wet weather contingency plan the amazing hire umbrellas (and other things). Sadly today I’ll be sheltering under my tiny compact brolly as I splash through the puddles.
Yes I would quite like to go back to Ireland, thank you. I never understood why the Irish landscape felt so magical to me. When I first set foot in Donegal (not pictured) the first time I went to Ireland I couldn’t understand why it felt so familiar. I’ve since traced my family tree and my great-great grandparents came over to England from Sligo (also not pictured) so Ireland is my ancestry. The science of epigenetics shows us how our ancestor’s experiences are handed down genetically and I like to think that includes the things they found beautiful, including the sun setting over the Atlantic (actually pictured!). This was shot in Derrynane, Co. Kerry at Sarah and Daniel’s beautiful wedding on the Coast. I’m feeling called to head back to Ireland soon. Do you have an inexplicably strong connection to land that you’ve never lived in? Tell me about it in the comments. And if you’d like to book me to photograph your wedding in Ireland or somewhere else you know what to do.
Sharing some of my favourite images from 2022 and why I love them. I love family shoots. Love them. I get to hang out with families and capture a little slice of their every day life. Stephanie, Colin and their small people were a delight to photograph. We drank coffee at their home, we went to their favourite green space, and they did what they do when they're spending time together as a family. We also got some pretty light and I got to shoot them against a big, blue sky. Not easy to come by in London! I'm available for family shoots in Birmingham, London and around. Drop me a message if you'd like to capture your family.
Sharing some of my favourite images from 2022 and why I love them. One of my favourite parts of shooting families is capturing you at home. The way you play together; the chaos and the calm; naps and garden adventures. Meal times and bath times. These fragments of the day-to-day are so beautiful and so important. The little things; they aren't little. I'm available for family shoots in Birmingham, London and around. Drop me a message if you'd like to capture your family.
Sharing some of my favourite images from 2022 and why I love them. I am a documentary photographer for the most part. I love observing a story as it unfolds and I get excited when I capture candid images that show narrative in a single frame. That said, beautiful light is magical. Dawn. Dusk. Golden hour. Blue hour. The contrasty light of mid day and the interesting shadows it creates. I get excited about light. Very. Jo and Tomas got married at Folly Farm, near Bath. I'd shot there once before so I knew the sun would set behind the hills. Just before this serene moment we were running through fields, as the sun started to set. If you're looking for a photographer who'll chase the light with you, get in touch.
Sharing some of my favourite images from 2022 and why I love them. Yes I've shared this already. More than once. And that's because I not only love it, but the rediculousness of the rain storm I got caught in with Chloe and Rob will stay with me forever. We left their venue to go take some portraits around beautiful Bath. We thought we'd be safe from the weather. We were wrong. The heavens opened, we had to hide under a tree, there was brolly wrangling and a lot of laughter. I loved this moment a lot.

A giant tractor and a dalek. Sharing some of my favourite shoot from 2022.
I didn't quite get around to doing a 2022 round up. I ended the year with some 'stuff' going on (we love it when life does that, right?!) but I do want to highlight some of the amazing couples and families I got to work with year. From Birmingham to London, from to the Kent Coast to the Cotswolds. I had a lot of fun bouncing around the country last summer capturing connections. So here's my 2022 round up as a series of images that I'll be sharing over the coming months, along with why I love them.
I'll never not adore this moment where Emma climbed into the biggest tractor I've ever seen in her dress. I've photographed over 300 weddings at this point and I often think I've seen everything there is to see. But no! There is always an opportunity for the unexpected! Emma and Mark's wedding had a few firsts actually. A dalek ice luge being one of them. And there was a dalek wedding cake! It was also a treat to photograph a very local wedding at . If you'd like me to capture you on a giant tractor on your wedding day, you know what to do. Dr Who fans especially welcome.
That’s me, up there. I’m Laura. My friends call me Babb and I live in Birmingham, where Bab is a term of endearment. I was called Babb (it’s my surname) long before I moved here but I like that everyone assumes the name of my photography businesses is a very Midlands play on words.
When I’m not behind the camera, I can often be found hiking. I love people but I also really enjoy being a long way away from people. Favourite local (ish) hikes include the Shropshire Hills and my favourite ever hike was The West Highland Way. I love art (especially sculpture) and architecture (particularly Brutalism), I’m almost always listening to music (a lot of folk, but there’s also rock, pop, electronic and grime on my playlists).
I’m incredibly passionate about wellbeing. So much so that I turned that into a business too (must stop doing that, running all of my social accounts is a LOT), where I teach meditation, build community, and I’m just about to qualify as a counsellor. On a personal level I am driven by equality, social justice and connection.
I observe people with my camera at weddings. I observe families with my camera. I observe people doing the things that light them up with my camera. And my counsellor training has been a three year deep dive into understanding humans. I think I have a pretty good understanding of people and connections at this point. I get a lot of fulfilment from being able to document people being passionate about the things and people they love.

About Babb Photo
I'm an award-winning photographer based in Birmingham and I'm all about capturing joyful celebrations in the Midlands and across the UK. I wasn't born with a camera in my hand and I had no idea that I'd end up doing this for a living. I found photography though and photography found me and now I tell stories full of colour, joy and love with my camera.
I take a playful and real documentary approach to shooting. “What does that even mean?” I hear you say. Well, just that I like to capture events as they happen, to get those real sparks of emotion and authentic expressions. I'm not into lots of awkward poses and stiff, uncomfortable portraits. I want to make every image truly reflective of the awesome people who invite me to be part of their celebrations.
I'll capture images for you that bring back everything you felt on your wedding day, every time you look at them. I'll create an authentic and comprehensive story of your day, from the first kiss to the dance-floor revelry; your wedding framed just as it is – marvellous, magnificent, and totally who you are. Every joyous moment, each ecstatic antic and every great big hug.
When I’m not creating pictures, I spend a lot of time stomping around the countryside. Uninterrupted horizons and the sea are my favourites. I love dinner and drinks with friends, dancing to Indie classics and watching re-runs of sci-fi shows on Netflix. I am also partial to a (really, really) long nap. I work in Birmingham, the Midlands, London and across the UK. I'd love to get to know you so drop me an email for a chat!
