Chester Zoo has welcomed the birth of a rare Malyan tapir which it has hailed as an “important moment” for the conservation of the endangered species.

Named Nessa, the female calf was born to parents Margery and Betong, both aged ten, in the early hours of November 30. Weighing just 9kg, her arrival followed a 13-month-long pregnancy.

For those of you who have enjoyed following/ reading my posts, you may have noticed I haven’t posted since February.
If you have been following my posts for a while you would have noticed they regularly featured my apprentice and best friend Arthur, my Weimaraner.
I lost him at the end of February very suddenly with no warning,at the age of 5, from a disc extrusion. He became paralysed from the neck and could not recover.

As my work days were a partnership with him it’s been a struggle to write about work projects.

I am delighted to say that my workshop may now eventually feel a bit more normal, however I have a feeling it will take a while 😂😂, as I now have a new addition to BourneCrafty Upholstery who is Walter!
He’s 8 weeks old and a menace.
He has already asserted himself in my workshop, so I’m hoping there is potential to eventually help with delivering Mail, tools, and a feel good factor a dog can’t fail to give you!

As far as work goes… I’ve been working through some interesting projects over the last few months and I have some very exciting new projects and additions which I will be sharing with you all sometime soon.

A little taster to share with you just for now is that from January 2023 I will be running my workshop tutorials again with lots of exciting options to make and take your projects home with you.
These will include a footstool making class ⚒

A small chair, new or old ( dining chair size)⚒

A custom made raised posh, plush dog/ cat raised bed 🐾

I will be posting timetables and information at the beginning of January so keep an eye out for this.

Incase you thought my media silence was due to being blown away, it isn’t.
However I’m often blown away with how many furniture items get thrown away, often to become landfill somewhere down the line!

I work on what often looks like hopeless pieces of furniture, and nothing gives me more pleasure than restoring it for you.
It feels like my very own repair shop!

Style, craftsmanship and quality of old furniture through the ages is rarely repeated with today’s design, quality
and mass manufacturing process.

We really need to hold on to our history and heritage as much as possible. Furniture doesn’t need to look tired, dull and dusty. You can reinvent it in your home by choosing a fabric with on trend appeal, or a timeless classic.

A makeover with a little BourneCrafty magic, on your arm chairs , footstools sofas, or any pieces of furniture that can be upholstered will give you a talking point in any room of your home, and bring those forgotten gems back to life.

Here is a recent full restoration I did for a local customer. This chair was broken on the back with a collapsed seat and needed major attention throughout the complicated frame.
It’s a beautiful crafted walnut frame which after the BC magic is now fully restored and sitting proudly in her Moseley home!

He’s finding his first week on the tools quite tiring, so has taken advantage ( very cunningly I might add) of this antique chaise, to have a little break. Its booked in for a complete strip down so apparently he was testing the springs?🤔
He is very happy with his new uniform!
I think we are going to make a good team for 2022! 🐾❤️

The sofa is Victorian walnut, showing off it’s beautiful curves, and profile with a complementary double piping handmade trim!
The chair, is Victorian mahogany,and is again restored and reupholstered in the same powder blue velvet.

Tired and invisible in its surroundings,
to modern ,trendy ,and ready to hold up the next derrière in style and comfort!

Hello my lovely crafty followers!
As you know I am an upholsterer, and having the creative mind I have it can be quite difficult to switch off from making things!
I eventually had my stair runner fitted on Thursday, which I love, love, love 🤗
The contrasting carpet we had upstairs had quite a large off cut over.
Having materials that I use such as webbing has proved very handy, tomorrow I challenge myself to whipping the edge of the carpet with webbing, which if it works, will make me a lovely rug for my dog to enjoy!
My Jack industrial sewing machine has never let me down yet, so let’s see what happens!
Look out for the results!

Fabrics such as Tartan have their challenges!
Squares, lines, horizontal and vertical, colour changes within the boxes, but certainly an application that needs full concentration!

Hello everyone!

I thought I’d update you with my last few months of business in lockdown.

Whilst I work by myself (apart from my faithful furry companion Arthur dog) I have found the last few months strange, and rather isolated at times.
It’s very different having no choice I think, but I’ve also very much missed working with clients in a relaxed and exciting way which is all part of the journey in choosing fabrics and designs for my commissions!
It’s been possible, but with a feeling of caution.

I have also greatly missed working with my regular, and new pupils who attend my workshops for various projects.
However I am very much looking forward to seeing some of you as soon as possible.
I will also be releasing some new projects for workshops in the coming weeks, so if you’re interested in coming along you may need to book up ASAP as the classes will be limited numbers and are usually popular!
In the meantime here are a few pieces I have been working on.
