FIREWORKS THIS WEEKEND

It's the second round of the World Fireworks Championship Blackpool on Saturday 21 September as Finland battle it out in the skies! Approx firing time: 8.30pm.

Due to the popularity of the World Fireworks Championship Blackpool, there may be traffic delays arriving and leaving the event.

If you are parking in the central areas, consider delaying your departure to avoid the initial rush and take time to enjoy some of Blackpool’s night-time attractions and hospitality.

Alternative public transport via the rail systems and buses are also recommended.

The wait is nearly over! St Annes International Kite Festival will kick off this Friday from 12.00 on St Annes beach, as usual you can expect a great weekend of team kite flying with our event partners SmileFactor10, solo displays, giant inflatable kites, and fun for all the family.

The celebrations will take place from Friday at 12.00 and run into the evening with the illuminated kites lighting the sky, finished off with a sound and light spectacular.

On Saturday festivities kick off from 11.00am where you can see giant inflatable kites to artistic creations and thrilling sport kite performances in the main kite flying arena until 5pm. Sand artist Manu will be back producing one of his fantastic sand art.

From 6pm on Saturday there will be entertainment live on the stage with some special character appearances the little ones will enjoy. The evening will be finished off with a spectacular firework display at approximately 9.30pm (Weather Permitted)

On Sunday, the event programme will begin from 11.00am with kite performances in the main arena. We will also see a magical display of bubbles from Ebubilo on the beach which has been a popular addition in recent years.

The Funfair and delicious food and drink will be operating during the festival hours.

For added incloosion, we welcome back Accessoloo providing an accessible changing places toilet, sponsored by St Annes Town Council. We’d like to thank all the sponsors and event partners for their support in making this great event happen. While you’re in St Annes, do take time to visit the town centre and browse around the wide range of independent shops.

Alongside the festival the RNLI open day will take place on Saturday 10.30am to 4.30pm located just behind the YMCA swimming pool.

We look forward to welcoming you all to St Annes for a perfect day out for all families and kite enthusiasts alike. There’s plenty of parking, an additional signposted overflow event parking area, or come by train to St Annes on the Sea station.

FREE EVENT - KITE FESTIVAL

Next weekend marks the return of St. Annes Kite Festival!

The skies above St Anne’s seafront will be awash with colour from the 13 - 15 September as fabulous display kites take to the air on the beach adjacent to the pier.

There is a planned illuminated kite flying evening on Friday 13 September along with a fairground on the beach, a stage for music and entertainment and additional stalls on the Promenade.

This year’s event will open with a display by the team from Nakaja Art in Poland, who have more than 25 years of experience of staging firework displays across Europe and Central America.

ALIENS REIMAGINED 👽👾

Get ready for a blast from the past! A brand-new overhead roadway section is set to pay tribute to the beloved Aliens feature that graced the Illuminations display several years ago.

This extra-terrestrial addition has been designed by talented students at Blackpool Sixth Form and showcases 10 unique illustrations of alien life!

🪩 DISCO DONKEY CAVALCADE 🫏

Twelve donkeys, including five fabulous females and seven magnificent males, each with their names painted on, are all decked out in funky 70s-inspired swimwear, prancing around a 16-foot high platform. The installation is topped with a revolving mirror ball acting as a giant scoop of ice cream. In fact, the ice cream is an impressive 2.75 meters tall, just shy of the world’s tallest ice cream at 3.08 meters! You have to see it to believe it!

🚀🧑‍🚀 NEW TABLEAU- LIGHT AROUND THE WORLD BY LEIGH FRANCIS (KEITH LEMON) 🦖

Set your sights on a brand new tableau, created by Leigh Francis (aka TV star Keith Lemon). The second to be created for the “Light Around The World” series at the northern end of the display is based on Leigh’s wildly imaginative childhood memories.

Inspired by Leigh’s love for both space and dinosaurs, this tableau brings to life his fascination with flight to life. Expect a 12ft tall dinosaur, space ship, astronaut, an airborne BMX bike, and Leigh himself flying through the skies towards The Blackpool Tower! The trellis itself stands at an impressive 18 feet tall and 34 feet wide, featuring eight main light elements.

REIMAGINED FOR 2024- CHANDELIER CAUSEWAY

A shimmering spectacle awaits! Reimagined for 2024, the Chandelier Causeway roadway section features a series of stunning LED giant chandeliers and strobe lighting festoon, giving a glamorous and glitzy nod to the decadent chandeliers of The Blackpool Tower Ballroom. The two giant chandeliers are in full glitz mode with 4,000 LED pixels, while the smaller ones each sparkle with 2,000 LED pixels.

WORLD FIREWORKS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2024

Coming up in September and October are the world fireworks championships which take place on the beach in front of the tower.

The dates for the displays are

Saturday 7th September
Saturday 21st September
Saturday 5th October

If the events run the same as previous years the build up for each display will start around 7.30pm with the actual display launching around 8.30pm.
Display times and dates are subject to weather conditions

Please be aware that the trams still run during the event so be extra careful around the tram tracks.
It is advisable to arrive early as the displays are very popular.
