If you have been following my page for a while, you will have met Mitch before. I support him with the strength training side of his Ultra race goals and as my partner, he also supports me in my running and business goals. Last month, dragging my ass around the Manchester Marathon ππ€£.
Yesterday, Mitch took on Pennine Barriers and 50 mile ultra over the Yorkshire 3 Peaks and I could not be more proud. π
The weather was absolutely shocking, horizontal rain and fog, but he got it done in just over 12 hrs. A phenomenal achievement from a phenomenal human. π¦ΈββοΈ
Mitch started strength training with me 2 years ago and had this to say about yesterday's event β¬οΈβ¬οΈβ¬οΈ
"I am really pleased with my result, top 200 finish and no slips or trips. To help with this, I combine strength training with my running plan and it's been an absolute game chager for me.
Managed to reduce my weekly mileage from around 70 miles down to 30 and still achieve amazing results.
Can't sing the praises enough of for putting my plan together.

Manchester Marathon 2024 - Wow what a rollercoaster!!!!!
Itβs taken me a couple of days to reflect on this marathon, feeling lots of mixed emotions. More than just a physical testβit was a mental and emotional one too.
Running with injury and body niggles was incredibly tough, pushing me to my limits in ways I never imagined.
I had started building up a base mileage from Sept last year so that my body was prepared to start our marathon training plan in Jan. As Iβm a perimenopausal woman in my mid 40βs I know not to push my limit and followed a sensible and also flexible plan allowing for extra rest and recovery where needed.
I knew that Manchester was going to be difficult, as I found Chester Marathon 2021 extremely difficult but felt I had unfinished business with the distance. Setting myself 3 goals:
A - Sub 5 hrs
B - PB (5.15)
C - JUST GET IT DONE
Started off comfortably but by 9 miles it was actual pain, pushing on to mile 12 then having to change the strategy to βpoint to point jeffingβ to give me a way to visualise ticking off those miles. Actual tears were shed when I realised it wasn't going to be anywhere near the time I'd hoped for. Massive thank you to Mitch, my partner in life and all things for keeping me going.
Mile 21, I was in a whole world of pain and feeling defeated, never have I been so happy to share a toilet stop and group hug with Kat and Amanda, that honestly gave me the boost to keep going for the final 5 miles and scraped me a Sub 6 marathon time.
Taking these past two days to reflect has been crucial in understanding the depth of this experience and the lessons it taught me.
Despite feeling disappointed with my time, I'm proud of myself for persevering and crossing that finish line. It's okay to feel emotional; it shows how much this journey meant to me.
This second marathon has further confirmed to me that this distance is just not for me and shall be sticking to 10Kβs and halves.
Here's to growth, resilience, and embracing every step of the journey, no matter how challenging. πββοΈ

Compulsory pre race kit layout for tomorrow. π¬
6 months of training, building our base mileage before hitting the marathon plan in Jan.
Extensive trial and error with different fueling strategies and hydration, feeling pretty confident with this part of my race.
Focusing on rest and recovery ( I have even brought my pillow from home) to help with my pre race zzzz's.
Unfortunately, my body keeps hinting to me that it's not a fan of the marathon distance and training, so tape and compression sleeves will hopefully get my shins/calfs through 26.2 miles.
Absolutely devastated for .hargreaves.1
my og run bud, who has put in all the training but due to injury won't make it to the start line today.
Massive thank you to , my biggest supporter. I apologise in advance for all my crying in tomorrow's marathon.

If not, then why the heck not? π€―
β¨οΈ Running is a single leg activity. Unlike walking, where a good chunk of time is spent on two feet, running is consistently hopping from one foot to the other. This means single leg strength, balance and stability are CRUCIAL for efficient and effective running form.
β¨οΈ It helps you to train both sides equally, preventing overuse, over training, or your dominant side, taking over, which could lead to injury.
These are just a few examples to get you started.
