🛠️ MAINTENANCE 🛠️

This time of year brings a flurry of maintenance tasks for Davie, Andrew and Neil. Cleaning and fixing equipment, fencing, improving drainage and more. The list feels endless. One thing that has frustrated Andrew while he’s been off is thinking, “Imagine all the jobs I could have done.” 🙈

The work never truly ends, but isn’t that for the best?

💪🏻 MAJOR 💪🏻

We are excited to introduce Major, our third breeding stag and the son of Jock! He’s a handsome addition to our herd, joining our other two stags, Jock and Hamish.

Each of our stags has a name with special significance.

Hamish, our first breeding stag, is a pure Scottish stag given to us as a wedding present by Andrew’s great uncle Frank, who also owns a deer farm in Beauly. Hamish was named after Frank’s long-serving farm worker, a strong and resilient man, making it an obvious choice.

Jock, an English park stag with impressive conformation, was purchased from John Goffan, a deer farmer near Edinburgh. He was named after Andrew’s grandfather, Jock (Morag’s father) who was a towering figure with a heart of gold. He was passionate about deer and was thrilled when we began this venture.

Major, bred here at Glenkilrie, is the son of Jock and is already showing great promise at just three years old. He is named in honor of Andrew’s other grandfather, who was a Major in the army during World War II. Even after returning home, he was known as The Major, a true gentleman, making it a fitting name for our newest recruit.

I was thrilled when friends asked me last week to host a cook school class for a 30th birthday on Monday. It was a fantastic opportunity to test our cook school concept.

Andrew laughed at me when I said, I think my favourite thing about the cook school is, that I will always feel like I’m hosting a party.
